    Show notes

Christian serves as the Young Adult Ministries Coordinator for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. A graduate of Wheaton College, Azusa Pacific University, & Luther Seminary, Christian is a Licensed Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in Arizona committed to the upbuilding of the Church as a family that facilitates the formation of youth & young adults into the image of Chris. I wanted to have Christian on the show primarily to get to know the Greek Orthodox church. So, I gave Christian an hour to convert me, and, well, you’ll have to see if he succeeded.

S9 Ep981: What Is Intersex? Julie Zaagman and Dr. Sam Ashton Jun 16, 2022
    Show notes

Intersex is a term used to describre a range of what medical professionals call “disorders (or differences) in sex development” (or DSD’s), where people have some atypicality in their sex chromosomes and/or phenotypical sex development. Sam just completed his Ph.D. dissertation from Wheaton College on the topic of intersex, and Julie has an intersex condition called Swyer Syndrome. In this episode, both Sam and Julie help us understand the topic of intersex on both a theological and personal level.

S9 Ep977: Christian Universalism, asexuality, demisexuality, same-sex marriage and women in leadership, & the massive increase in trans teens. Jun 02, 2022
    Show notes

I’ve got a fist-full of questions sent in from my Patreon supporters, some of which I answer here.

Questions addressed in this public podcast:

Can I make a scriptural case for Christian Universalism?

What do I think about asexuality, demisexuality, graysexuality?

Is the debate about same-sex marriage kind of like the debate about women in church leadership?

It seems like there’s a 50/50 chance that my baby daughter will have gender dysphoria–is that true?

Can I recommend any good books on sex and marriage?

And will we have memories of earth in our resurrected bodies?

S9 Ep975: Psychedelics, Marijauna, and Being the Church from the Table: Debra Hirsch May 26, 2022
    Show notes

I had no agenda going into this conversation, but it quickly delved into talking about psychedelics, marijauna, and how God uses some trippy things to draw people to himself. We then talk about a missional ecclesiology with the table at the center. Deb Hirsch is a speaker, church leader, and writer who has led churches in both Australia and Los Angeles. She is one of the founders of Forge Mission Training Network and is a member of the Forge America national team. She also serves as a board member for Missio Alliance and was part of the leadership team of Christian Associates, a church planting movement in Europe, North & South America. She is the co-author (with Alan Hirsch) of Untamed: Reactivating a Missional Form of Discipleship, and her book Redeeming Sex reflects her own journey and attempts to bring new conversations about sexuality into the context of the church. Deb has been involved in social work, community development and as a trained counselor has worked in the field of sexuality for over twenty-five years.

    S9 Ep974: What Is Autogynephilia? A Conversation with Danny May 23, 2022
    Show notes

The theory of Autogynephilia is one of the more controversial and much neglected aspects of the trans* conversation. Some people say it doesn’t exist, while others say that most natal male trans* persons have Autogynephilia. Autogynephilia “is defined as a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female.” Several scholars have done a lot of research into this phenomenon: Ray Blanchard, J. Michael Bailey, Anne Lawerance (who is a self identified autogynephilic trans* medical researcher), and several others. My conversation today is with my friend Danny, who says he experiences a kind of autogynephilia and has learn to walk in faithfulness to Jesus in the midst of it all.
