Dr. Montgomery has been kind enough to record a series of episodes with me on the patristic era (see episodes 97 & 105). The others are big-picture overviews of the patristic era. This one is different as we focus on one man and one of his works.

Episode 107: The Doctrine of Justification With Tom Hicks Aug 21, 2023
    Show notes

In Episode 107 of Theology In Particular, I'm joined by Dr. Tom Hicks to discuss the doctrine of justification. Martin Luther famously said, "if this article stands, the church stands; if this article collapses, the church collapses." And sadly, this article has often been challenged and distorted in the history of the church even up to this present day. Here you will find a brief but clear articulation and defense of this biblical doctrine which is central to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Episode 105: The Patristic Era (Part 2): The Credal Impulse Of The Early Church With Jason Montgomery Aug 07, 2023
    Show notes

In Episode 105 of Theology In Particular, Dr. Jason Montgomery returns to continue our series on the Patristic Era. In episode 97, Dr. Montgomery provided us with an introduction to this important era in church history. In this episode, he draws attention to the impulse of the early church to formulate creeds and explains where this impulse comes from. The listener should know that Dr. Montgomery and I have decided to use a book entitled, The Story of Creeds and Confessions: Tracing the Development of the Christian Faith, as a kind of outline for this series.
