06: Should Christians only read the KJV? Jan 23, 2016
    Show notes

The King James Version (KJV) was the “gold standard” of all English translations around the world for nearly 350 years. Originally published in 1612, it has past the test of time.

It has an incredible legacy. However, with newer more modern English translations, most Christians have gone away from using the KJV.

But there are some people within Christianity that believe that the KJV is the only English Bible that we should read; others even go as far as to say that all other English translations are nothing more than a corruption of God’s Word.

How should we respond to the KJV-only debate?

05: Why Can We Confidently Speak on Behalf of God? Jan 23, 2016
    Show notes

Why do we presume to teach anyone anything about God at all?

This question posed by a friend of Kenny (the friend is not a follower of Jesus). This is an important question. Why is it that we can speak about God confidently? Why do we feel the confidence to speak on His behalf?

What makes us so sure about God? Kenny answers these questions in this episode.

04: Which Version of the Bible is Best? Jan 23, 2016
    Show notes

A frequently asked question by many believers revolves around the desire of knowing which English Bible version they ought to read to best understand what God is saying to us. There are many different contemporary English translations, each with its own flavor and philosophy. In this episode Kenny unpacks:

    1) The different philosophies of modern Bible translations

    2) Which versions are the most trustworthy

Kenny’s two favorite and most trusted Bible translations are:

    – English Standard Version (ESV)

    – New Living Translation (NLT)

This episode is a follow-up to our previous episode “Why Are There so Many Bible Translations?” wherein Kenny gives us some good insights into the incredibly difficult task of Bible translation.

03: Why Are There so Many Bible Translations? Jan 22, 2016
    Show notes

People often ask, “Why are there so many different translations of the Bible?” The answer simply lies in two facts:

1- Translating ancient languages into contemporary language is a very difficult task.

2- There are several different philosophies of how to translate the Bible.

In this episode, Kenny gives us insights into the difficult task of Bible translation and clearly answers the answer to this question in a way that anyone can understand.

02: What is Theology? Why Does it Matter? Jan 22, 2016
    Show notes

Whatever you believe about God matters a lot, because it’ll impact how you live your life. Theology is simply the study of God. The more you study about God, then the more you’ll know and understand about God, his character, his nature, and his dealings with mankind. The more you know, then the more you’ll be better equipped to make better choices in life.

Theology matters because it greatly impacts how we live our lives.

If you have bad theology (meaning you believe the wrong things about God) you could make decisions that are potentially detrimental to you or those around you. But if you have good theology (meaning you believe the right things about God) then you are more likely to make good decisions in life and, more importantly, you are more likely to embrace all of life’s circumstances with a Christ-honoring perspective.

    01: What’s This Podcast all About? Jan 20, 2016
    Show notes

This is the very first episode of Theology For the Rest of Us. This podcast is designed to help any person who just wants to learn more about God or learn more about whatever it is orthodox Christians actually believe about God.

Lots of people have questions about God. That’s totally acceptable. But, far too often many of our pastors, preachers, church leaders, and seminarians are way too complex in their speech when answering these questions, sometimes making the topics and issues even harder to understand. This podcast is aimed at giving simple quick answers to some of those tough questions that people ask.

In this first episode, our host Kenneth Ortiz explains the genesis of the show, its format, and its goals. Typically each episode will answer one question related to theology, God, religion, history, or the Bible.

If you have a question that you’d like to have answered on the podcast or you’d like to connect with Kenneth, you can connect with him directly:
