Outrageous: Jesus in a culture of outrage Mar 11, 2021

Show notes

In a culture of perpetual outrage, the story of Jesus cleansing the temple is a provocative one in multiple directions. How do we discern what is and what is not worth being outraged over? What does the passion/"anger" of God look like, and when is anger justified? Is God's anger ever violent? Is it our job to "tone police" anybody else's anger? And when we see the heat of God over injustice in a text like this one, should it matter that we are, in fact, well...not Jesus?

What Does Black Identity Have to Do With Christian Identity? A Conversation with Cece Jones Davis Feb 16, 2021

Show notes

This episode is taken from the first Table OKC Sunday celebration of black history month of 2021. Cece Jones Davis and Jonathan share in a fascinating, provocative conversation on black identity and Christian identity... featuring a devastating reading of James Baldwin by Table leader and friend Will James. We celebrate black history month liturgically not just to honor folks in our own community, but because the Jesus story & the Christian story itself is not intelligible apart from the black story.
