The Yarniacs Episode 85: Stash Goals, Q1 Apr 03, 2015
    Show notes

This week Gayle and I recorded in a different location and there might be a few spots in the recording where you can hear the whirr of the local surfboard business. Just a little local flavor as you can't go very far in Santa Cruz without passing a surf shop, or a taqueria, or a yoga studio. Sometimes all three in our casual beach town. :) We discuss the first quarter (Q1) of our #loveyourstash movement. We met our goals and (surprisingly?) stayed with it. For me at least, who dislikes anything that smacks of obligation knitting. Fortunately, my goals didn't involve knitting or finishing of any specific project so perhaps that helped make it workable. Congrats to all of you who are moving towards a stash you can live with and love. Our second quarter (Q2) threads are open and you can post a goal in the "goals" thread, and chat about all things stash in the "chat" thread. Remember, to #loveyourstash means different things to different folks. For some it means owning less yarn, while for others it means having a plan for your yarn. However you choose to stash, moving towards a well-curated stash that fits your storage, budget, and knitting style is a workable goal with the support of friends. Remember to use the hashtags #yarniacs and #loveyourstash for your social media needs so that we can all find what you are doing and support each other towards loving the stash! - Sharlene What are we wearing? The Yarniacs Episode 84: Knit the Stash Mar 20, 2015
    Show notes

This week, in keeping with the "love the yarn you own" movement in our Ravelry group, Gayle and I talk stash. This week we focus on how we feel about our stashes and stashing in general. A well-curated stash that we are happy to own is important to every knitter and crocheter. Is something about your stash making you unhappy? Too much of one type of yarn, too little of your favorite color? Not enough yarn or too much? Now is the time to take inventory and think about what makes you a happy stasher, what doesn't, and how to move toward owning and curating a happy stash that brings you joy. If you need ideas and support, come over to our Ravelry discussion group and join in. We'd love to see you there! What's in your stash? - Sharlene What are we wearing?

The Yarniacs Episode 83: It's All About the Yarn Mar 06, 2015
Show notes This episode we share some of our experiences, observations, purchases and sights from the StitchesWest 2015 expo. It was fun, educational, entertaining and exhausting. You'll be hearing about some of the new yarns as they become works-in-progress. Please welcome Robbie (aka Photoknitgal) as a moderator to our Ravelry group. Both Gayle and I have days when we can't get to Ravelry to check out the group discussions. Now Robbie will be there if anything comes up and Gayle and I are away from the computer. Robbie was also the initiator (instigator?) of the current Stash-Down Challengereminding all of us to love the yarn we own! Thanks Robbie! What are we wearing? The Yarniacs Episode 81: Winter sweater weather Feb 06, 2015
Show notes Sharlene's self-indulgent yarn from Western Sky Knits As I sit here finishing these show notes, my eyes are drawn to the window, and the slight promise of rain. If you've been following California news at all, you know that while the rest of the country is experiencing a white winter, in our neck of the woods January passed without a drop of moisture falling from the sky. Extreme drought indeed. So despite the fact that it is a mild 62ºF (16ºC) folks are out and about bundled up and everyone is excited about the possibility of rain. Whatever the February weather has in store for you (that groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, right?) I hope you find a way to incorporate your knits--wearing or making--in a self-indulgent way. Please consider joining the self-indulgent KAL chat over in our group in Ravelry. Show notes

This 80th episode of The Yarniacs launches us into our 4th year of this podcasting adventure. What an adventure it has been! We have learned about wool, about yarn, about designing, about technique, and of course, about community. The community we have formed on Ravelry with our fellow yarniacs has been the most fulfilling and wonderful part of podcasting. We can't thank you all enough for listening, for participating in our knit-a-longs, for chatting, and for playing along with us in social media. Truly, you have enhanced our knitting lives. This episode we celebrate our podcast anniversary with a mash-up of some different party themes. Join us as we share some of our favorites from the last year and look forward to another yarn-filled year of podcasting. Enjoy! Party Hats! Daylight lamps are Sharlene's most valuable tool. Lamps such as Ott & Verilux are great. What is a Morris style chair? This is the style of Sharlene's usual knitting chair. The Clover stitch holders are one of Gayle's favorite tools. Favorite yarns we worked with in 2014 Sharlene enjoyed working with fingering yarns, specifically single-ply fingering from Western Sky Knits and Dragonfly Fibers. Sharlene used the single-ply fingering for her Headland and her Hitofude Cardigan. Gayle also used a lot of Western Sky Knits yarns including the silk/merino blend that she used for her Puck Shawl and her Obsidian Pullover. She also enjoyed new to her yarns Gilliat and Holst Garn Coast, which she sued for her Hitofude. Favorite designers Joji Locatelli Elizabeth Doherty Yelena M. Dasher

Gayle and I were quite tickled upon listening to this feature and hope you will get a laugh out of it too. The fact that there were groans and possible Yarniacs in the audience just makes us smile! (See warning below! While the website page is family friendly, the audio linked from the page is not.) The days are getting darker, the weather getting cooler and possibly wetter.
