The Worst Idea Of All Time

An award-winning smash hit series hosted by kiwi comedians Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt. The pair have been punishing themselves with movies for your enjoyment since Feb 2014, starting by watching and reviewing Grown Ups 2 once a week, every week, for a full year. They applied the same treatment to Sex and The City 2, Sex and The City, We Are You Friends, the Emmanuelle franchise of softcore adult films and now are taking on The Fast and Furious franchise in reverse order.

Miranda is struggling with her phone and her relationship with her son, just as Tim and Guy are struggling with their relationship to AJLT Season 2. Brady The Rat King is back on the scene and we need to discuss how his story mirrors Prince Harry’s. After all - nobody wants to f*** someone who USED to be the Rat King. Seema has a full narrative arc about her expensive bag being stolen and then returned to her.

Well, that didn't last long. Tim is out of gas while Guy continues to conduct the AJLT hype train. The second episode of the season, undeniably worse than the first, balances several obscenely unrelatable problems with the fact that, racism still exists!? The show also parks all of its protagonists’ stories to introduce and excite us with the presence of Tony Danza - star of television! The show’s absurd relationship to software continues to draw the eye of Tim, while the refusal to show Che doing any more stand up draws the ire of Guy. We've got gaslighting, we've got emotional growth, we've got Carrie refusing to learn anything about herself or the world.

Guy and Tim are reunited with the And Just Like That girls and absolutely giddy with excitement. Correction: Guy is giddy with excitement. These women are getting older but that just seems to make everyone even more horny. Cunnilingus and sarcasm are on the menu and Che Diaz is back in all of their glory. What do we know about the pilot they are working on? Will we get to see it on the show? WHY MUST THE SHOW DEGRADE STAND UP COMEDY IN THIS WAY? (asks Guy) The boys also float a theory as to how Mattress Pikelet King is writing the show and spreading the work load. All told, it is truly fantastic to be back.

[To the tune of We Are Family by Sister Sledge]

    We are family,

    Libertarian listener and me!

Welcome back to Family Time to our family (comprised solely of you). It has been a while but the boys are excited to catch up with you and take the time to open the mail bag. We start with a tutorial on how to track back to the first season of the podcast, and a few memories from the real world before Emmet from Ithaca, New York joins Chris Marlton as a scholar of some repute with respect to the podcast. Having worked through multiple seasons, multiple times, hearing the experience articulated lends the idea of weightiness to this stupid f*cking enterprise. We round out with correspondence from the aforementioned Chris himself, with an important question about Rob Schneider.

    30: When A Tractor Loves A Cannon Aug 04, 2023
    Show notes

The hike to Fast and the Furious (1) is long and there is mud underfoot but also hope on the horizon. Before we can even get into the meat of the movie this week, Guy has several mental tabs open that must cleared, including teenagers watching terrestrial television, the ABBA holograms and a gambling experience in Brisbane.

Tim meanwhile takes a wildly inaccurate stab as to how long the boys have spent immersed in the Fast and the Furious-verse before the hard data hits him. The Batman is also campaigning for a pasta dish to win an Oscar and explains how tanks are brought into this world.

The boys have done it right. Sat side by side, they've watched the dang movie. But have they enjoyed the movie? It’s a beautiful day outside in Auckland, New Zealand and the amount of time spent with the shadow of Furious 6 hanging over them has created a general restlessness. In what is surely an infuriating listening experience, the boys try to remember the plots of the F’s 7 through 9 to limited avail. Guy has lost money to Tim because he is shorter than The Rock, there’s a deep dive into the actor who plays Stuffy British Auctioneer and wild speculation as to what he might have been paid for his role.

The first family time in a long time, aptly recorded in the family room of Tim’s house. Tom Waits and Ken Griffen join us as does a dog in a dressing gown. One listener has launched a podcast built around repeatedly listening to the legendary Prawn Salad. Another has written a song called Guy's Song, a song so powerful Tim decides he is going to reintroduce personalised ringtones starting right here and right now. We get to the bottom of the Cheesecake Factory is valet parking situation thanks to a listener in Illinois and the idea of a 12 Hour, Drug Fueled, Family time is floated, in a quest to get to the bottom of the mail bag.

    28: Milk Bar Jul 18, 2023
    Show notes

Tim and Guy are reunited after two weeks apart from each other and the Fast Franchise. Tim has been watching Fast and Furious 6 in increments, while riding a bike around Auckland. Guy has been watching it while archiving his favourite t-shirts for future use. It would be fair to say the movie is not being given the respect it deserves. The fellaz dig into American conversational technique (again???), the modern price of t-shirts, new rules for old underwear and the origins of The Rock.

It is time for Timbo’s Top Five vehicles he would f*ck in Furious 6. The twists and turns, the inclusions and omissions on this list will SHOCK YOU. We also take the time for a side bar into the top five mattresses FOR a car. Guy tells us a little about some legal problems he has run into after practicing as a doctor in the reception of a pediatrics' office but that doesn’t get in the way of him sharing some fantastic jokes.

    26: Coke Wins Jun 30, 2023
    Show notes

The boiz are on a couch, in a lounge, chatting off the back of a watch of Furious 6. In an expansive discussion about beverages (alcoholic and not), we ask the question; Who could possibly win (out of ANY ORGANISATION IN THE WORLD) against Coke Cola? Guy’s also trying to figure how why we drink alcohol. Also, why spoons are banned in Russia. Monty is shining a light on the fantastic performance given by a British man who loses his shirt and crucially the pair dig into whether Letty and Dom would still be together if she didn’t get amnesia.
