The Warner Brothers release earned six Academy Awards nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Tilda Swinton won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Produced In the Valley of Elah directed by Academy Award winner Paul Haggis starring Tommy Lee Jones. Mr. Jones was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in the Warner Independent release. The pictures premiered at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.

    ABOUT AMERICA YOUNG

    America Young was awarded the 2020 Humanitarian award by UCSD for her work promoting women in the film industry.

    America Young is currently working in Film, TV, Animation and Video Games, as a Director, stunt coordinator and stunt woman. To date, she has directed for Network TV, two features, a season of an animated show, a video game and four digital series.

    She has stunt coordinated on projects for Warner Bros, Netflix, Lifetime and Cannal Plus. And worked on 65 video games.

    Having stunt coordinated for years, America transitioned to directing seven years ago. While having a solid foundation in action, she is also known for her ability to bring out the best performances in actors, both drama and comedy, while translating subtle and rich story points visually on screen. The projects she has helmed have a wide range from a drag queen comedy to sci-fi action to fantasy action to coming of age drama to exploring domestic violence in a superhero universe.

    Her first feature, “The Concessionaires Must Die!!” executive produced by Stan Lee, (www.cmdthemovie.com) is now available on Itunes, Amazon and other VOD platforms. Her most recent digital series, “Whatta Lark”, that pairs a quiet, introverted woman with the fiercest and loveliest of Drag Queens can be watched on Amazon. “Protectress”, a Xena-inspired fantasy, winner of several awards including Best Action, Best Director and Best Fantasy on the festival circuit, is being developed into a feature. She has several features she is attached to in deveoplment. She also directed the cinematics for Resident Evil: Shadows of Rose which was name #8 video game of the year by Time Magazine.

    America was pivotal in the rebranding of Barbie with the Barbie Vlog in 2015 and directed the critically acclaimed season of the Barbie motion capture animated series for Mattel which was featured on VICE, Vogue, Glamour and Newsweek among other publications. It has been viewed on youtube over 150 million times and went from 500k subscribers to nearly 11.6 million in the time she has been working on the Brand.

    Her second feature, “Back to Lyla” which is Alice in Wonderland meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind inspired, was acquired by 1091 and released June 2022. Upon completion of the Warner Bros directing program, she successfully entered the TV world, directing an episode of Blindspot (aired May, 2020) and Legacies (aired 1/23/20) with glowing feedback from both teams. She has now directed 17 episodes of TV since for Netflix, Amazon, Blumhouse, Warner Bros, CBS, BET+ and at the end of 2021 she directed the pilot of Surfside Girls for Apple TV which got a full season order and released in 2022.

    She is a proud founder of The Chimaera Project, a nonprofit that gives opportunities to women in the film & media arts (www.chimaeraproject.org).

    When America’s not kicking the crap out of Super-Heroes that support the Superhuman Registration Act, jumping off buildings, teaching actors how to fight or setting herself on fire, she enjoys telling stories, sipping herbal tea and sharpening her pair of Sai.

    Originally from Venice California, Bob Bekian was one of the original Dogtown skateboarders in the 1970’s and has kept that “go for it “ attitude throughout his life business career.

    Bob started his career selling industrial contracts for Billion dollar companies and learned how big corporations operate.

    Bob learned the lessons of business first hand and then was recruited into the media industry taking over a $5 Million annual revenue SONY distribution company and building it to $35 million in 3 years.

    His innovative approach landed contracts with clients such as the NBA and Disney.

    From there he built his own companies including Pro HD Rentals , Spotburner and Loyal Studios. Evolving into producing and directing, Bob has completed over 1000 projects in 15 years ranging from pharma commercials to Snoop Dogg music videos.

    Bob continues to run his media companies and has evolved into developing a self-development platform (bobbekian.com) which focuses on Mind/Body and Spirit motivational content.

    Bob is very proud of his family including his wife of 35 years Sonia and his two grown sons Shane a business litigation attorney and Bryce who owns a digital advertising agency. Bob is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys skiing, golf and pickleball.

    Two time Emmy award-winning MARY LOU BELLI has been directing television for over 30 years including NCIS New Orleans, True Lies, Black Lightning, Bull, Legacies, Station 19, Sweet Magnolias, Pitch, Monk, Famous In Love, Devious Maids, The Quad, American Woman, and Hart of Dixie as well as Disney’s The Secret of Sulphur Springs, Ms. Pat, Wizards of Waverly Place, Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, and The Game.

    Her short film, Straight Eye for the Gay Guy won “Best Mini-short” at the California Independent Film Fest where she also premiered I Heard Something, a thriller that went on to play fests internationally. She has done ground-breaking work on web-series. Her award-winning short, America, played its 14th fest on its 4th continent at The Hague and won best micro short.

    She was recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Comedy Directing as well an another Emmy in the Children’s Programming category. Mary Lou served two terms as the Co-chair of the Women’s Steering Committee at the DGA where she also has served on the Western Director’s Council, presently she is on Leadership Council PAC and as an alternate to the National Board. She is an Honorary Board member of the Alliance of Women Directors and Advisory Board member of Women in Media. Mary Lou also serves on the Advisory Circle of Film Fatales is and a long time member of Women In Film as well as the Peer Group Executive Committee of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences where she presently serves as one of the Governors.

    She has served as judge and/or guest speaker for the CSU Media Arts Fest, a judge for the Miss America Outstanding Teen Pageant, a jury member at the Sapporo Short Festival, Newport Beach Film Fest, Regina International Film Festival, and The Voice awards, a lecturer at the Chautauqua Institute, and a panelist for Women In Film, the DGA, SAG, and AFTRA and the LA Times Festival of Books. She has been a guest artist at the International Thespian Festival for secondary school theatre where she gave workshops to thousands of teens and high school theatre teachers. Through her teaching, she supports many of the vibrant diversity programs including ABC/Disney, CBS, Sony, HBO Access, AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women, and Warner Bros. Directing Workshop mentoring the next generation of directors.

    She is the co-author of four books: “The NEW Sitcom Career Book,” “Acting for Young Actors,” and “Directors Tell the Story” which she co-wrote with fellow DGA member Bethany Rooney. Her 4th book, “Acting for the Screen” was published by Focal Press summer 2019.
