Show notes
Colin is joined by Danny Parkins, co-host of “First Things First” on FS1!
They start with the WNBA and their public compensation dispute with the players, and that despite losing money for years…why the league should pay the players as its trajectory soars in the Caitlin Clark era (3:30). They compare the ratings draw of Caitlin Clark games to other sports that rate similarly, and those are all billion dollar industries (6:00).
They discuss late night TV in light of the cancellation of The Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert and why the oversaturation of politics in late night changed the audience and revenue. Danny argues that Colbert’s ratings will jump as he becomes a martyr and they debate whether other networks could also pull the plug on late night (12:30).
They discuss the rise of AI and the societal implications of the mass changes AI will bring to society, medicine and the economy (30:00). They compare the massive changes AI portends to the changes made to college football in recent years, and why the upside outweighs the downsides (39:00).
They pivot to the NFL and why parity in the league is generally a myth. They point out the predictability of knowing which teams will win their divisions, and that even the “surprise” teams aren’t usually surprising (50:00).
Finally, they pivot to the NFC North and debate the Bears prospects in a division that has seen major reshuffling (52:15) and talk about Danny’s move to join the crew on First Things First (54:30)!
