How A Kids Triathlon Is Helping Families Dealing With A Pediatric Cancer Diagnosis | JUST TRYAN IT Ep. 79 Jul 27, 2023
    Show notes

Truman Charities has raised over $1.7 MILLION since its founding, and we’re excited to do even more for our community. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce another fundraising event for JUST TRYAN IT on August 12th, from 3 to 6PM at the Truman House!

After her son was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at a young age, Mollie Darby has friends and family rally around them to support his 3.5 year treatment journey. Not all children and families are lucky enough to have the same kind of support, and this was the inspiration for the JUST TRYAN IT charity.

JUST TRYAN IT raises money through fun kids triathlon events to help families of children with pediatric cancer. They provide financial assistance to keep families in their homes, support them when hospital stays cause them to lose their jobs, feed families, get crucial medications, and more.

If you’d like to support JUST TRYAN IT, come to the next race in Bethesda on October 1st! Kids ages 6-14 can race and anyone ages 14+ can volunteer at the event.

And remember to join us at the JUST TRYAN IT event on August 12th for food, drinks and fun for the whole family! Email us at info@trumancharities.com if you’re interested in attending.

72 | How Will Gene Editing Help Individuals with Muscular Dystrophy? | Strongest Hearts Apr 25, 2023
    Show notes

Muscular dystrophy has a projected life span of just 15 to 30 years, so receiving a diagnosis for your child can feel like the world is ending, but there IS hope with gene editing.

Tania Barbera co-founded Strongest Hearts after years of misdiagnosis for her son, turning her family’s pain into a mission to improve the lives and life span of children affected. The foundation focuses on treatment through gene editing, and she does a great job explaining how its technology can help patients and better genetic testing.

Strongest Hearts is currently raising $645,00 to cover the next phase of human trials, and we’re partnering with them for the next Truman Charities event to help them reach their goal!

Tune in to find out what to expect from the May 13th event, including the awesome auction items up for grabs, and other ways you can get involved.

70 A Mother's Love | Finding The Cure for Rare Pediatric Brain Cancer Mar 27, 2023
    Show notes

Do you know that DIPG, a rare pediatric brain cancer, has a nearly 0% survival rate?

In this episode, we’re revisiting our conversation with Jenny Mosier from episode 60. Her son, Michael Mosier, was diagnosed with a DIPG brain tumor at just 6 years old and it had an everlasting effect on their family.

Inspired by her son’s determination and charitable spirit, Jenny created a foundation in his memory to find a cure and help families with children going through treatment. Truman Charities was also touched by her son’s story, where we unanimously decided to host a fundraiser benefiting ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation!

Tune in to this episode to learn how ChadTough is raising awareness for this seriously underfunded form of cancer, and ways you can join the mission to defeat DIPG.
