The Complete Donna Adelson Story — From Matriarch to Murder Trial Aug 22, 2025
Show notes The Complete Donna Adelson Story — From Matriarch to Murder Trial
In this full-length Hidden Killers special, we bring together all four parts of our deep investigation into the case of Donna Adelson, the matriarch at the center of one of Florida’s most infamous murder-for-hire cases. This is the complete, unbroken story — from the private family dynamics that may have sparked a deadly plot, to the public trial that could end with Donna spending the rest of her life in prison.
We begin with Donna’s role inside the Adelson family, where prosecutors allege she held a controlling influence over her children — influence that, according to the state, turned into the driving force behind the 2014 killing of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. We examine the $1 million relocation bribe offer, threats involving the children’s religious upbringing, the pattern of phone calls on the day of the murder, and the money trail that prosecutors say links Donna directly to the crime.
From there, we go inside Donna’s public and private narrative control — breaking down recorded prison calls that reveal strategic language, careful omissions, audience-specific tone shifts, and emotional steering. Even behind bars, her voice reaches far beyond her cell, shaping perceptions and planting alternate versions of events aimed at both family members and the court of public opinion.
Next, we confront Donna’s apparent willingness to testify — a rare and risky move for a defendant facing this level of evidence. We explore the psychology, confidence, and possible ego behind taking the stand, drawing parallels to other high-profile cases where testimony either helped or destroyed the defense.
Finally, we look ahead to the lasting legacy and fallout of this case: the intergenerational trauma facing the Adelson grandchildren, the identity struggles of carrying a notorious last name, the fractures and loyalties within the family, and the public judgment that will follow them long after the verdict.
This is more than a trial. It’s a story about control, loyalty, manipulation, and the far-reaching consequences of a single decision. Whether you’ve followed the case from the start or are just hearing the details now, this full investigation gives you the complete context, evidence breakdown, and psychological analysis in one place.

Inside the Prosecution’s Case Against Donna Adelson Aug 22, 2025
Show notes Inside the Prosecution’s Case Against Donna Adelson
With three co-conspirators already convicted in the Dan Markel murder case — including her son Charlie — Donna Adelson is now the next alleged link in the chain to face trial. Prosecutors will need to convince jurors that the 73-year-old wasn’t just aware of a conspiracy to kill Markel, but actively participated in it.
In this Hidden Killers episode, Tony Brueski and Eric Faddis discuss what the prosecution’s strategy might look like: leveraging hard-to-explain financial transactions to convicted co-conspirator Katherine Magbanua, highlighting Donna’s deep involvement in the custody dispute with Markel, and presenting the $1 million “relocation offer” as evidence of her willingness to go to extreme lengths.
Eric outlines how prosecutors may also use jail calls with coded language, the Vietnam one-way ticket, and the established conspiracy convictions of other players to strengthen their case. At the same time, the defense will likely push to frame Donna as a peripheral, sympathetic figure caught up in family turmoil.

The Real Victims Of Charlie & Donna Adelson: Dan Markel's Kids! Aug 21, 2025
Show notes The Real Victims Of Charlie & Donna Adelson: Dan Markel's Kids!
Whatever happens in court, the Adelson family will never be the same. In this Hidden Killers episode, we examine the lasting psychological and reputational damage of the Dan Markel murder case — from the convicted son and implicated daughter to the grandchildren growing up with this as their family history.
We explore the intergenerational trauma created when a family name becomes synonymous with a high-profile crime, and the identity struggles faced by younger relatives living under constant recognition. Can a family recover emotionally from this level of public exposure? How do love, loyalty, and self-protection coexist when one member is convicted of a serious crime?
We also look at the role of denial, the risk of ongoing influence from behind bars, and the impact of community perception on a family’s ability to heal. This is the hidden sentence — the fallout that begins before the verdict and lasts for decades.

Why Donna Adelson Might Take the Stand in Her Murder Trial Aug 21, 2025
Show notes Why Donna Adelson Might Take the Stand in Her Murder Trial
As jury selection begins in the Donna Adelson trial, one of the biggest pretrial bombshells is her reported willingness to testify in her own defense. The 73-year-old matriarch of the Adelson family faces charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in connection with the killing of FSU law professor Dan Markel — and testifying could expose her to devastating cross-examination.
In this Hidden Killers segment, Tony Brueski and defense attorney/former prosecutor Eric Faddis dissect what this decision could mean. Is it a strategic bluff? A calculated move to control the narrative? Or simply Donna’s belief that she can charm or talk her way through the jury’s doubts?
Eric explains the risks, the limited control defense counsel has over a client’s choice to testify, and how prosecutors will be ready with a paper trail of payments, coded phone calls, and the one-way Vietnam trip to challenge her credibility. The conversation also explores how the defense might try to limit her exposure on the stand and frame her as a protective — if over-involved — mother rather than a conspirator.

What Happens if Donna Adelson Testifies? Aug 20, 2025
Show notes What Happens if Donna Adelson Testifies?
Most defendants facing first-degree murder charges stay far away from the witness stand — the legal risk is simply too high. But Donna Adelson may be different. In this Hidden Killers episode, we explore the psychology, ego, and strategy behind her apparent willingness to testify in her own defense in the Dan Markel murder trial.
Could this be rooted in confidence, even overconfidence, in her ability to persuade a jury? Does it reflect a need to reclaim control of the story from her attorneys? Or is it part of a broader family strategy to project strength in the face of overwhelming evidence?
Drawing on real-world parallels — from Jodi Arias to Alex Murdaugh — we break down how testimony can either humanize a defendant or destroy their credibility, and how jurors interpret tone, body language, and personality from the witness box.

What Jail Calls Tell Us About Donna Adelson Aug 19, 2025
Show notes What Jail Calls Tell Us About Donna Adelson

Even behind bars, Donna Adelson’s voice reaches far beyond her cell. In this episode, Hidden Killers analyzes how the accused matriarch of the Adelson family uses her recorded prison calls to control the narrative surrounding the Dan Markel murder case.
From inclusive “we” language designed to bind family members to her cause, to carefully omitting specifics when topics get close to incriminating details, Donna’s communication style is deliberate. We explore audience-specific tailoring, the reframing of past events, quick laughter after serious points, and the strategic use of denial — all part of maintaining influence over both family and public perception.
Is this instinctive habit or calculated strategy? And how much of it is aimed at the people on the line versus the people she knows will hear these calls later — prosecutors, jurors, journalists, and the court of public opinion?

Donna Adelson: How Far Would She Go for Family? Aug 18, 2025
Show notes Donna Adelson: How Far Would She Go for Family?

In this deep-dive, Hidden Killers unpacks the complex web of influence surrounding Donna Adelson, the matriarch at the center of one of Florida’s most infamous murder-for-hire cases. Prosecutors allege Donna’s control over her family — especially her adult children — created the conditions for the 2014 killing of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel.
We examine the evidence trail: a $1 million relocation bribe proposal, threats to raise the children outside their father’s faith, alleged disparaging remarks to grandchildren, suspicious phone call patterns on the day of the murder, a year’s worth of signed checks to convicted go-between Katherine Magbanua, and the FBI “bump” operation that caught Donna calling the matter “between the two of us.”
Through psychological analysis and detailed case breakdown, we explore how family loyalty, generational influence, and unspoken rules can turn ordinary disputes into deadly conspiracies. Was Donna simply a concerned grandmother, or was she the architect of a criminal plan?

Donna Adelson Wants to Testify — Will It Save Her or Destroy Her? Aug 12, 2025
Show notes Donna Adelson Wants to Testify — Will It Save Her or Destroy Her?
Donna Adelson — the 73-year-old matriarch accused of conspiring to murder her former son-in-law, FSU law professor Dan Markel — is reportedly considering taking the stand in her own defense. It’s a move that could either sway jurors in her favor… or seal her fate.
In this episode of Hidden Killers, we dive deep into the psychology, the evidence, and the high-stakes gamble of putting Donna on the witness stand. Why would a defendant facing first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation charges want to testify? Is it about control, image, or the belief she can out-talk the prosecution?
We break down the hard evidence prosecutors would hammer her with: the infamous million-dollar relocation bribe offer, her alleged threats to use religion against Dan in a custody battle, phone calls on the day of the murder linking her directly to Charlie Adelson and convicted go-between Katherine Magbanua, a year-long stream of signed checks to Magbanua from the Adelson dental practice, and her reaction to the FBI’s “bump” operation that hinted at her direct involvement.
Testifying would give Donna a rare chance to speak directly to jurors, but it would also open the door for a brutal cross-examination. We explore how her history as the family’s decision-maker and “fixer” could play both for and against her — and why traits that look like confidence can, under pressure, read as arrogance or manipulation.
From legal strategy to behavioral profiling, this is the full breakdown of why Donna Adelson’s possible testimony could become the defining moment of her trial.

Donna Adelson’s Last Court Fight Before Trial — You Won’t Believe What’s In & Out Aug 08, 2025
Show notes Donna Adelson’s Last Court Fight Before Trial — You Won’t Believe What’s In & Out
The countdown is over. With jury selection set for August 19, the final pre-trial hearing in the Donna Adelson case has now wrapped, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Prosecutors and defense attorneys squared off in a tense Leon County courtroom today, arguing over what evidence the jury will get to see—and what will be kept out entirely.
At the center of the battle: the bitter divorce file between Wendi Adelson and Dan Markel, a stack of legal documents the state says proves motive, and the defense calls irrelevant and prejudicial. The judge split the difference—allowing only parts directly tied to Donna into evidence, but letting prosecutors use the rest as a visual to show jurors the sheer scope of the hostility.
Gang ties also took the spotlight. The jury will hear that confessed hitman Luis Rivera was a gang member, but not that he was a Latin Kings leader—unless the defense proves it ties directly to Donna’s fear and state of mind. And when it comes to emails, texts, and recorded calls, witnesses won’t be allowed to “interpret” their meaning unless they’re decoding proven code words.
One piece of evidence Donna’s attorneys fought to exclude—her 2022 airport arrest with a one-way ticket to Vietnam—will still come in. The judge ruled jurors can hear it and decide for themselves what it means.
With 300 jurors summoned, tight media rules, and both sides estimating nearly two weeks of testimony, this trial promises high drama inside a tightly controlled courtroom. Today’s rulings will shape the entire narrative—and may ultimately decide whether Donna Adelson walks free or spends the rest of her life behind bars.

BIG BREAKDOWN – Donna Adelson On The Stand Complaining About Jail Conditions While Awaiting Trial For Murder Jul 30, 2025
Show notes BIG BREAKDOWN – Donna Adelson On The Stand Complaining About Jail Conditions While Awaiting Trial For Murder

In this raw and revealing courtroom testimony, 75-year-old Donna Adelson takes the stand—not to proclaim her innocence or deny involvement in the alleged murder-for-hire plot against her former son-in-law Dan Markel—but to air a laundry list of grievances about her life in jail. What unfolds is an unexpected glimpse into the mindset of the accused matriarch at the center of a high-profile murder case.
As the courtroom listens, Donna describes a series of alleged assaults, threats, and extortion attempts inside the jail. She claims inmates have targeted her for her notoriety, demanded canteen items, and physically attacked her, including one incident where she says she was struck in the head. The woman accused of helping orchestrate a contract killing sounds less like a defendant preparing for trial and more like someone demanding better room service.
This episode features Donna’s testimony in her own words—unedited, uninterrupted, and unbelievable at times. Her tone is calm, measured, even matter-of-fact, but the content paints a picture of someone deeply concerned with her comfort, not the case against her. It’s the kind of courtroom moment that leaves everyone wondering: is this strategy, delusion, or both?
We give you the full testimony as it happened, without spin or commentary. Hear for yourself how Donna attempts to reposition the narrative just weeks before her murder trial is set to begin. Whether it’s a legal maneuver or a bid for sympathy, this testimony is unlike anything we've seen so far in the case—and it's all here.
