385 - How To Feel More Connected With God Through Art: A Conversation with Rachel G. Scott Sep 20, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

I’m not exactly sure how, but my guest on this episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, Rachel G. Scott, must have 30 hours in each of her days. It's the only logical explanation for how many creative areas she excels in.

Rachel’s love of creativity was established at a very young age and grew with every new creative outlet she tried. Learning the flute, teaching herself the piano, singing in the church choir, on top of loving to draw and write poetry, all led her to feel connected to God's presence.

Of course, not every season of our lives is filled with perfect harmony. For a long period, Rachel felt unable to connect to her gift of singing. And that's the story I really want y'all to listen to in this episode.

Because everybody, for one reason or another, can feel disconnected from their art. But that doesn't have to be the end of it. Let Rachel's story help you recognize the season of life that you're in and how to follow where God leads you in the seasons to come.

So check out the podcast, and check out Rachel's website and social media to see what amazing things God is doing in her life in this season and beyond.

384 | 5-Minute Mentoring: How To Discern The Voice Of The Lord Sep 16, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

I believe there’s a key way to discern the truth of what you’re hearing, and it involves the tone and tenor of the message you’re receiving. The character of God is to give invitations, not accusations.

If the voice you’re hearing is accusing you of not being good enough, or of not being deserving of success, or words like that, you know that’s not the Lord. It’s time to tune that out.

On this episode of 5-Minute Mentoring, I’ll tell you how to recognize God's invitations so you can move toward a closer relationship with Him.

Take a listen to this episode, then start listening for the inviting voice of God to guide your way.

383 - How To Unlock Your Creative Mind: A Conversation with Chris Lumry Sep 13, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

Have you ever met a kindred soul, someone who just gets you? That’s how I felt when I met my guest on the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, Chris Lumry. Chris and I share a love for Jesus, a love for creativity, and a passion for seeing people’s hearts unlocked.

Chris grew up very achievement-oriented, and without much of a feeling of being a creative person. He was educated in the finest schools, got a job in Silicon Valley, and was on his way to achieving what he thought were his life’s goals. But it was coming at a cost.

He lacked fulfillment. He battled addiction. He was hurting inside and in denial of his own struggles.

Eventually, praise God, he sought counseling for his issues, which led him to a church in Northern California. And that’s where he experienced something he never had before: the presence of God as a father in his life

This life-changing experience opened him up to childlikeness and creativity he didn’t know he possessed, and he turned it into a mission to provide this experience to others.

Listen to Chris’ story and you’ll be sure to feel your own creativity being unlocked. It’s an awesome feeling!

And be sure to take a look at Chris’ website, where you can get guidance on recovery, mindset change, and creativity for your growth journey, and more about his book, now available on Amazon.

381 - When You Discover Your Divine Purpose: A Conversation with Kathy Roling Sep 06, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

Have you ever felt like you were doing all the right things and were still not experiencing fulfillment? Like you are still struggling in everything?

Kathy Roling, my guest on this episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, had felt that struggle for a long time.

She is a polymath, which means she loves to do a lot of different things, and she does them well. But the time came in her life where no matter what she would do, even if she felt like it was what the Lord wanted her to do, it wasn’t translating into success. She wound up living in poverty, praying for a way to turn things around.

As it happened, she heard me teach at a recent masterclass, and the lightbulb switched on for her. She began to realize that God was calling her to be an artist, and it was okay to claim that for herself as her divine purpose.

As she went through our artist mentoring program, Created to Thrive and learned how to thrive as a Christian artist, she learned how to change her mindset, create good habits, and do the practical things necessary to have an art business that she could rely on for sustainable income.

Take a listen to Kathy’s story of breaking out of her poverty mindset and putting her faith into practice to become a successful, thriving artist.

And be sure to visit her websites to see what she’s up to in her amazing 3d chalk illusion art and her nature art these days:

380 | 5-Minute Mentoring: How Perception Affects Your Art Sales Sep 02, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

Do you live in a big city with a thriving art scene? Are there high-quality galleries on every street corner and throngs of enthusiasts lining up for every art show?

Believe it or not, not everybody has easy access to what you would call a “good” art scene. Artists in smaller towns, rural locations, that sort of thing, may have a hard time getting their art noticed.

The best they can do in their local area may be to showcase their art at a local art fair or streetside art walk, and chances are they'll be positioned right next to other art that is... not so great.

And you know how that one house on the street with the overgrown weeds, peeling paint, and broken windows makes the whole street look bad no matter how nice the other houses are? The same perception happens with art, too.

That's what this episode of 5-Minute Mentoring is all about - the power of perception. Take a listen to this episode and find out how you may be able to overcome (or avoid) the negative perceptions that can detract from your own art, so it can be discovered and recognized for its own merits.

379 - Following God's Inspiration For Your Life: A Conversation with Jessa Brantley Aug 30, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

When God inspires you to do something, do you do it no matter what?

My guest on this episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, Jessa Brantley, is a perfect example of what can happen when you go all in on following God’s inspiration for your life.

Jessa was working as an accountant (“the least creative job a person can have,” she says) who dabbled in making wooden signs as an artistic outlet. But when she stumbled on wood-turning videos online, she was “mesmerized” by them, and knew that she had to give it a go herself.

Overcoming the nervousness of trying a new thing, especially a thing that was in a field dominated by men, she took the lathe her husband got her for Christmas and taught herself how to turn wood into beautiful bowls.

From there she took step after step on the path God showed her, including taking my masterclass. Next thing you know, she had taken her art and made it into a successful, thriving business!

If you feel the Lord calling you to make more out of your artistic expressions than you ever thought possible, you should listen to Jessa’s story. She’s a great inspiration you can learn a lot from!

And when you’re done with this episode of the podcast, you should check out Jessa’s website and social media to see what God is inspiring her to do with her art.

377 - How To Develop Consistent Cashflow As An Artist: A Conversation with Maria Morris Aug 23, 2022

Show notes

Send us Fan Mail

Sometimes no matter what you do, you just can’t seem to get ahead.

My friend Maria Morris has had to fight through this for quite a long time. She has followed God’s call to be an artist and a teacher, but she could never seem to break through on the financial side of things.

Selling her art and classes on her own website and trying her luck on Skillshare and Etsy only led to inconsistent income and uncertainty. Money would come and money would go, and all Maria could do was try to react.

And what’s worse, she began to feel the burden of fear and self-sabotage weighing her down, threatening to break her spirit.

Fortunately, her faith kept her strong, she overcame these challenges, and she found her way into our mentorship program. And in this episode of the Thriving Christian Artist podcast, she’s going to tell you how all this helped her to develop the consistent, regulated cashflow she needed to create the life she’s always wanted as an artist.

Take a listen to this episode, and check out Maria’s art, teaching, and coaching at her (much more successful 😀) website and on Instagram:
