A play on the triumph and losses in performance and life. The Talent Tank podcast will navigate the inner workings of lifestyle, lives, family, teams, careers, programs, and technology in and around the offroad motorsports industry. What breeds success with your Talent Tank on full, failures when its on empty. From the journey to the Starting Line to take that Green Flag, on to exploring trials and tribulations on and off the track in pursuit of victorious achievement and the Checkered Flag.
On this Twelfth and Final installment of the ULTRA4 Racings King of the Hammers 2020 The Talent Tank sessions, Executive Produced by Caleb Norman @caleb__norman.
The Howard Hughes of rock sports! Cody Waggoner @cody_waggoner_lasernut
First and foremost, without Cody & his wife Lindsey, the past twelve shows, the KOH2020 Sessions would not have been possible. Without their hospitality, and opening up their desert home for us to record with carte blanche access they would have been highly sub-optimal. On the Monday morning of Hammersweek, we sat down for some very early morning coffee and talked cutting metal with lasers, being a world champion rock crawler, family adventures, and the advanced mindset to see and embrace your own blindspots and turning weaknesses into strengths.
    After the Checkered Flag:
What a heartbreaker, Cameron Steele & Wayne Israelsen lead the 4400 race for a good bit, first on corrected time, and first on the road, but succumbed to the perils of KOH and earning a DNF.

These guys at Team Fun-Haver Offroad Vaughn Gitten Jr @vaughngittenjr, and Loren Healy @loren_healy know how to get down. Business, marketing, outside the industry sponsors, representation, being fast, family, tattoo sleeves and and this little thing about being strategic and calculated in your actionable efforts. Crazy that we fit all that into such a short time frame, buckle up buttercups, good times were had at KOH2020 with these guys.

    After the Checked Flag:
Both Loren & Vaughn were 4400 finishers. Loren in 7th, Vaughn in 38th.

Hailing from Grand Junction, Colorado and pilot of the #4874, we got David Hartman @davidhartman4874 to grab a seat during a busy and hectic Hammers week. Albeit a shallow dive, you get another glimpse of what makes a program successful, hands-on, first hand experience and knowledge of their racecar. Another driver who handles his own prep. On this KOH Session we talk bars in Florida, investing as a career and lifestyle, new car setup, solid co-drivers, and sxs jetboats on the Colorado River. Which who wouldn't want a tiny jetboat to explore with?

    After the Checked Flag:
Literally after the Checkered Flag; David finished 8th Overall in the 2020 King of the Hammers Every Man Challenge race, and 7th in class 4800 with a time of 05:47:17.558 which was 00:54:17.120 minutes out of 1st place.

On this KOH2020 Session we snag last years Inaugural Toyo Tires Desert Invitational Winner, Luke McMillin @lukemcmillin83 and his brother Dan McMillin @danmcmillin for a quick turn on what brought McMillin racing to King of the Hammers, and a shallow dive on 4wd/AWD trucks vs. the two-wheel drive trucks.

All the way from South Carolina, Chris May @trailtoy83, sits down in the dust bowl of Johnson Valley during Hammersweek and fires up the Way Back Machine. I can hardly name a rock sports competitor that has been at it, and stayed at it as long as Chris. His wherewithal, tenacity, and downright staying power is something to behold. How a small budget racer still takes the green flag at the Hammers, being realistic in goals, fighting burnout, and being the father of a fiercely competitive daughter who is carving out her own name in off-road racing. And not a single Chris "May or May Not" joke was told.

    After the Checked Flag:
Chris finished 42nd out of 44 official finishers, and 66 racers who DNF'd.

She's been around the block, and will take you behind the woodshed. On this session on The Talent Tank we try our best to not get a fork to the neck while discussing Pirate4x4 and the etiquette of "ChitChat" where this damsel reigned supreme, building and supporting businesses, people and your relationships being the bedrock for success, and in general what its like to be strapped to the ULTRA4 merry-go-round. So step in, sit down, and prepare to be enlightened!

Amazing, hard core, hard headed, zero quit in this guy! Dawson Allington @dawson_allington National Champion Stock Class driver of the #4695 @baby_jeep_racing his rookie year in ULTRA4, followed up with a battle for his life against brain cancer. He's a survivor, and the fight has invigorated his stature behind the steering wheel when the visor goes down and the green flag drops. Dawson sits down with Wyatt at KOH2020 talking adversity, cancer, racing, huge bandaids, Shannon Campbell's hair, and quilting of all things.
    After the Checked Flag:
Brain and other nervous system cancer is the 10th leading cause of death for men and women. It is estimated that 18,020 adults (10,190 men and 7,830 women) will die from primary cancerous brain and primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors this year.

The 5-year survival rate tells you what percent of people live at least 5 years after the tumor is found. Percent means how many out of 100. The 5-year survival rate for people with a cancerous brain or CNS tumor is almost 36%. The 10-year survival rate is almost 31%. Survival rates decrease with age. The 5-year survival rate for people younger than age 15 is more than 74%. For people age 15 to 39, the 5-year survival rate is about 71%. The 5-year survival rate for people age 40 and over is about 21%. However, survival rates vary widely and depend on several factors, including the type of brain or spinal cord tumor.

Who is this guy, where did he appear from, and how did Dave Cole convince him he needed to take over the organization? After the Checked Flag:
A bicycle fork is the part of a bicycle that holds the front wheel.

A fork typically consists of two blades which are joined at the top by a fork crown. The crown is often at the front. Most suspension forks have an arch connecting the two side of the lowers (the part connected to the axle.) It is often in front of the stanchions (shaft the lowers slide on) but not always. Above the crown, a steerer tube attaches the fork to the bicycle and the handlebars (via a stem) allowing the rider to steer the bicycle. The steerer tube of the fork interfaces with the frame via bearings called a headset mounted in the head tube.

At the bottom of the fork, fork ends hold the wheel. Usually, either the axle is bolted to the fork, or a quick release skewer passes through a hollow axle, clamping the axle to the fork.

The term fork is sometimes also used to describe the part of a bicycle that holds the rear wheel, which on 19th century ordinary or penny-farthing bicycles was also a bladed fork. On most modern bicycle designs the rear wheel is now attached to a rear triangle comprising the seat tube, a pair of seat stays, and a pair of chain stays, rather than an actual fork, but the rear fork usage persists.

Mr. Dan Campbell-Lloyd @dancampbelllloyd the Hawaiian Aussie whos been pulling levers and banging the audio/video machine for close to a decade at King of the Hammers for ULTRA4 Racing. Making everything that rolls across the Live Feed good, great, amazing, relevant. So let's take a topical peek behind the curtain, for a quick listen on this handsome bloke from Down Unda'.
Check out Dan's skincare company in Hawaii, Ilis Scrub @iliscrub iliscrub.com
    After the Checked Flag:
Local lore is that many of the Kauai chickens are descendants of birds that escaped when Hurricane Iwa in 1982 and then Hurricane Iniki in 1992 blew open coops. Feral chickens are found on other Hawaiian islands, but not in overwhelming numbers. Annual bird counts organized by the Audubon Society support that notion: The numbers of chickens on Kauai jumped a few years after each hurricane. But the genealogy of chickens on Hawaii stretches back much farther. The first people there were Polynesians, who embarked on long ocean voyages to specks of islands in the expanse of the Pacific. They arrived at Hawaii at least 800 years ago.
