The common denominator in the majority of the ULTRA4 Racing competitors field, and their engine management systems is this behind the scenes, low-key, tamer of the tune, that goes by the name Josh West @propertuningog of CBM Motorsports. Diving into The Talent Tank on this episode, we discover how common and misunderstood engine management is. As well as everything from crocheted cat buttholes, to accelerated failure of sensors on LS motors, whitewater rafting to a non-story of feeling up Pamela Anderson on numerous occasions, and reinventing your talents as you navigate life. Sit back and enjoy.

Success and result driven define James Schofield @schofield526 of DIY Fab Parts. Join us on this installment of The Talent Tank talking about what a lifetime of dedication to making racecars go fast looks like. Growing up as a track kid every weekend, through Crew Chiefing an NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car to a championship. How off-road has played a significant part of his past 20 years. From famous places like The Fab School, BlueTorch Fabworks, Trail-Gear, 40spline, and his current venture at DYI Fab. We discuss race family, community, and what the love of the sport, and the sports love of you means. Especially in times of tragedy as James experienced at King of the Hammers 2021 taking a very bad tumble in the #321 ULTRA4 Racing 4400 car and his road to recovery from it.

Are Freemasons real people? The Freemasons are very much real. In fact, they are one of the longest running "secret" societies left in the world. They have moved into the public light in recent decades, and if you want to join you should reach out to the local lodge to see what you need to do.
Did the Freemasons evolve out of the Knights Templar? There are rumors that the Masons were a product of the destruction of the Templars, but there is no proof to back that up. Most historians agree that the Masons were a separate group that formed on their own.

No stranger to off-road racing, going fast, breathing dust, mud, and bad mustaches, the venerable Brad Lovell @bradlovell44 steps into the tank and tells us what it takes to take it all off, and risk it all! We are kicking off the Spring 2021 Season of The Talent Tank! EP 41 will not disappoint! As the current driver of the #242 ULTRA4 Racing car, to his deep history in rock sports, years as a professional short course driver, hill climbs, desert racing, and his current position consulting with Ford Motors on the return of the Bronco. Not an episode to miss, as we get to know this Colorado Springs native a whole lot better, and what it is that's kept him ticking in competitive off-road for nearly two decades.
    After the Checkered Flag-
The Pam-American Highway and the crazy race it once hosted.
Once upon a time, before budget airlines and global warming, when driving long distances at high speeds in dangerous cars was still something of a noble pursuit, the people of the Americas, the North and the South, built a bewildering network of roads that spanned not one, but two complete continents. Across mountains and plains and valleys and jungles, and through cities and villages and farmland, this network of tarmac still connects Alaska with Argentina. It stretches nearly 48,000km and is completely motorable by any reasonable car, except for a small, around160km stretch of formidable rainforest.
    Intriguing.

Fall 2020 Season finale of The Talent Tank! EP 40 won't disappoint with a character who's been referred to as the most mysterious man in Ultra4 and Offroad racing. Now that I know his story, I have no problem calling him the most inspirational human in our community. Current SCORE Baja1000 Unlimited 4wd Champion, driver of the #19 ULTRA4 Racing car, none other than Alaska's number one son, racing out of Park City, Utah today. The inspirational Paul Horschel, @paul_horschel. From his humble years growing up in frozen Alaska where resourcefulness wasn't just a noun, it was a way of life. How Paul made his trek to the Lower-48, and ultimately drilling for minerals in the far corners of our planet. Countries I can't pronounce, but are +4 syllables long with some "Y's" and "Z's" thrown in for good measure. To today, where Paul and his close knit crew are always in the podium discussion with his unique and bleeding edge designs. Be ready for him in February, he's got a score to settle at King of the Hammers.

Rarer than a unicorn; a female motorsports announcer, but wait there's more. She's also a veteran offroad racecar driver with 13+ years chasing dust. No way you say! Yes, Unicorns do exist! After the Checkered Flag-
Anyone familiar with all of the prep and engineering work required to make a traditional race car will laugh when they see what it takes to set up a skidplate racer:
    1. Strip the interior.
    2. Relocate the battery away from the extremities of the car.
    3. Weld the doors and trunk shut, then chain down the hood, too.
    4. Replace the back wheels with metal skids.
That last part is the important one, but not particularly complicated. You take a regular, cheapest-wheel-in-the-universe steelie and weld a set of steel plates to it like a fat ski. It’s a few basic welds to make the skidplate and the wheel bolts right up to the car as before.
It is with this small change that makes the skidplate what it is: near-uncontrollable for the driver and unquestionably entertaining for anybody watching.
Traditional race cars are what they are because they try to be objectively better. Better accelerating. Better braking. Better handling.

Skidplate cars are intentionally worse. Losing all of the traction of your rear-wheels in a front-wheel drive car makes it want to slide absolutely everywhere. Lift off the gas and the car tries to spin out. Get back on the gas and the car pulls itself straight, until you feed in too much throttle, at which point the front wheels slip and the whole car tries to spin out again.
