Yuwa is worried about Ulaan's shoulder, and insists on bandaging it.

They're left alone in a candle lit tent, with a snowstorm whirring around them, and a rose petalled bathtub awaiting. Romantic much???

Ulaan claims this is normal for him, but immediately tells Yuwa she is beautiful. Just sayin'.

There's a bit of teasing, and we are left with the most lustful stares in all of history.

Purple Hyacinth 85: Tragedies' Trail (with Fwoot and Lilia) Mar 16, 2021

On a gray and rainy day, Lauren and March pay a visit to the cemetery. Lauren visits Dylan's grave and seems to finally accept that he is dead. We discuss Lauren's character growth in that regard, growth that is also occurring in a different direction, one we hear about as she visits her parent's graves.

Lauren articulates what we have inferred all along. She is struggling to integrate the vision of her parents with what she now knows about them. She is also beginning to question the views and institutions she was raised with, seeing everything in a new light.

She expresses her confusion to March, who responds with a beautifully stirring speech adjuring Lauren to never give up the fight for justice. It beautifully prompts and ties into our lengthy discussion about Ardhalis, the Phantom Scythe, justice, intentions, corruption, responsibility, change, and growth.

We speculate about March and his wife's pasts, and the meaning behind the three angelic men at the party.

Purple Hyacinth 9: Unexpected Uprising (with Firedancer and Meg) Mar 15, 2021

This episode is crucial for understanding Lauren's reasoning in agreeing to work with Kieran.

We continue with the riot scene. The man on the statue hurls insults at the APD, outnumbered by an angry crowd.

Our friendly assassin has the nerve to DARE Lauren to call him out, but violence breaks out before Lauren can do so. The police move to break it up, and uncle Tristan arrives and calms the crowd. Lauren hears a lie and begs to detain the man, but once again, her power is disregarded and she is powerless.

And that's how she finds herself on the bridge at midnight, about to "get the keys from the devil himself." (quote from Meg's novelization of Chapter 9- read it below!)

Purple Hyacinth 8: Challenging Choice (with Hadzy and Meg) Mar 14, 2021

Our perceptive Kym picks up on Lauren's distress over Hermann's chewdown.

We learn that Lauren doesn't use her uncle's position as police chief to gain favor, something that doesn't surprise us, given her independent nature. Kym also claims she won't "terrorize the poor sods," only to do exactly that, giving us a new respect for her.

We learn more about the Ardhalis police department and their motto, and see that Will too, is a perceptive friend. Either that or Lauren is easy to read.

A crowd begins to gather to hear a man's inflammatory words about the Purple Hyacinth, and Lauren spots a very familiar face.... smirking back at her.

Asura's Bride 7: Here's A War (with Anne Rose, Molly, and Tina) Mar 12, 2021

Show notes

Alone in the tent, Yuwa contemplates what she has been told about the Northern King, and how it contrasts with what she sees of him. She wonders about her own role or lack thereof in the war, and remembering a tragic incident, is saddened.

Meanwhile, Ulaan is doing some contemplation of his own, thinking about his relations to Yuwa. He takes violent action when she is slandered, and returns to the tent, where he finds Yuwa waiting for him, as sensitive as ever to his gift.
