Disney Star Wars Rumors Abound – SWR #69 Nov 09, 2012
    Show notes

Hello one, hello all! Welcome back to the Star Wars Report podcast!

On this episode, your three hosts, Riley, Mark and me (Bethany) are all back to discuss some of the most interesting Disney Star Wars rumors! Joining us for an episode of fun is good friend Steve Glosson of Geek Out Loud fame.

We spoke of Michael Arndt (who’s writing credits include Toy Story 3, the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and an untitled Pixar project) having written a treatment of Episode 7 that will be shown to different, potential directors. We also speculated about the directors we’d like to see take on the project, and who it makes sense to assume the responsibility.

We also discussed what story and timeline the movie would most likely take place in, and the reports that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford all seem willing to re-assume their original trilogy roles.

We wondered what the new Star Wars will look like. It’s been decades since the originals, and years since the prequels. What form will these new movies take? What form will Star Wars as a franchise take? We were all optimistic about Disney’s acquisition though, and trust that overall, Star Wars is in good hands, and the vision of Star Wars will remain intact.

Why are we confident of this though? We take a brief look at the history of Disney and Lucasfilm as companies, and the creative vision behind both, and in the end, while both companies have had their dark times, the vision behind both continue and to some degree align with each other. As consumers, we’ve had very good products and stories from both, and we saw no reason for that not to continue. Disney handled the acquisitions of both Pixar and Marvel well, why should they mishandle the acquisition of Lucasfilm?

Long live the Wars! What do you think Star Wars will look like in the future? Are you thrilled, worried, or a bit of both?

Ashley Eckstein at Star Wars Reads Day [Interview] – SWR #66 Oct 09, 2012
    Show notes

This past Saturday was Star Wars Reads Day. I attended the event at my local Little Shop Of Stories in Decatur GA. where I had a BLAST! There I also had the pleasure if interviewing Ashley Eckstein.

As the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ashley has proven her voice acting chops as the plucky and determined padawan of Anakin Skywalker.

However, her talent doesn’t stop there. She has proven herself as a successful entrepreneur with the launch of her own company, Her Universe. Through Her Universe, she creates merchandise for female sci-fi fans. But, she does much more than that. She has led the charge as a representative of fan-girls everywhere who are stepping into the spotlight and being heard, recognized and rewarded.

Below is a written excerpt of my interview with Ashley, but be sure to jump to the bottom of this page to download and listen to the podcast which features the interview in its entirety.

Riley: How have you enjoyed Star Wars Reads Day so far?

Ashley: It’s been a blast! This is such an amazing bookshop, and such an amazing event. I mean, to have over 1,200 events For Star Wars Reads Day is such a cool thing.

Riley: Yes, it was fascinating to see how at first I’d heard about it and just thought “well that seems interesting”. Then I kept hearing more and more people talking about it.

Ashley: Absolutely, I definitely try to encourage reading, especially with young kids. If you read about something you love, it makes it so much easier, especially with Star Wars. It’s such an amazing story, to me it’s a story of hope and a story of good overcoming evil.

Riley: Recently on the Her Universe page you posted “What an AWESOME post written by Dave Filoni! He also addresses those crazy rumors about The Clone Wars being canceled! This is definitely a MUST READ!” (Read the post here.) Is there a feeling within The Clone Wars cast that “This is coming to an end.”? Because it may not be canceled, but I do kind of get a sense of finality as we start delving deeper into the Clone Wars stories.

Ashley: Well I think you kind of just said it. It’s not that The Clone Wars is coming to an end because we’re still going. I mean, I just recorded an episode the other day so that’s why I wanted to point out Dave’s blog post because you hear all these rumors and we’re still working away. So, don’t believe everything you read.

Riley: But it was on the internet!

Ashley: (Laughs) I know! But it shows what the fans are paying attention to is the fact that we are getting closer to (Star Wars) Episode 3 and that is the story that our show is telling. The story between Episode 2 and Episode 3 so as we get closer to Episode 3, “What’s going to happen?” And I don’t even have that answer. I don’t know what eventually happens to Ahsoka, I honestly don’t.

The interview continues in the audio podcast below. Stay tuned as Ashley discusses:

    • Ahsoka’s development as a character
    • The Clone Wars going into syndication
    • Ashley’s Celebration video diaries
    • Her Universe and how it’s unique in the female fandom

This episode of the Star Wars Report is brought to you by Toy Hutt, be sure to check out their awesome Twitter and Facebook pages!!

HUGE thanks to Ashley for making the time in her busy schedule to do this interview. I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to interview a number of actors and few have been as professional and accommodating as she was. So Ashley, if you’re reading this, thank you so much!

Darth Maul: Death Sentence Review – SWR #64 Oct 01, 2012
    Show notes

Should you be reading Darth Maul Death Sentence?

Mark Hurliman and Riley Blanton help answer that question in the latest episode of the Star Wars Report podcast!

I haven’t picked up a Star Wars comic book in months. Not that I don’t like them, I’ve just never followed them very closely. However with the return of the Maul/Savage Opress story arc in Clone Wars season 5, my interest was piqued when I heard about “Darth Maul: Death Sentence”.

I really enjoyed both issues of the comic, mainly because it ties so well into the Clone Wars series. I personally prefer it when expanded universe books or comics closely tie into the films and TV show.

This is because I have a very close attachment to the films and their characters. So when and comic “expands” upon the story of a character as cool as Maul, I find it very compelling.

Be sure to download and subscribe to the podcast below and let us know, what do you think of the return of Darth Maul now?

Anthony Daniels at SWCVI – SWR #63 Sep 28, 2012
    Show notes

I’m enormously pleased to present to you guys our exclusive celebration six interview with Anthony Daniels. You may have heard of him. He’s been in all 6 Star Wars films and has pretty much exclusively owned his character C3PO for the past 37 years.

He was very kind to give us an opportunity to talk to him and we can’t thank the helpful volenteers from Official Pix enough for their help in making this happen.

Anthony was a little intimidating for me to interview because he’s been around Star Wars fandom for so many years. He’s heard all the questions. Frankly I was a little worried that I’d bore him. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how kind and gentlemanly he was, and how engaging he was in our conversation. What a grand time!

Be sure to stick around for some highlights of his panel at celebration as well. For me, the best panel of celebration six is closely tied between Anthony Daniels, and Mark Hamill. It was that good.

This episode of the Star Wars Report is brought to you by Toy Hutt, be sure to check out their awesome Twitter and Facebook pages!!

I hope you enjoy this podcast episode and MTFBWY!
