    The Spiritual Perspective

Ever wonder what the spiritual perspective is on genocide? On cheating? On getting back with your ex? On toxic people?

If so, this is your channel.

You identify as spiritual — but you’ve still got questions about how to show up in life’s messiest, most nuanced situations.

And you don’t have time for fluffy, feel-good answers that don’t hold up in the real world.

This is where you’ll find a grounded spiritual take on life’s hardest questions.

I’m Light Watkins — keynote speaker, author, and longtime meditation teacher — and every week, I share short, no-BS videos that help you zoom out, tune in, and reframe what you’re going through.

If you’re tired of surface-level advice and ready to go deeper, join me every Monday and Thursday for new episodes of The Spiritual Perspective.

Your next breakthrough might be one perspective shift away.

Why Being Too Selfless Can Become Self-Sabotage Sep 21, 2026
    Show notes

When does loyalty to others become disloyalty to yourself?

In this episode, Light explores the line between genuine selflessness and self-sabotage. Using the familiar airplane oxygen-mask analogy, he explains why taking care of yourself first isn’t necessarily selfish—it can actually increase your ability to show up for the people and purposes that matter most.

He also breaks down why setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable, especially when the people around you have benefited from the way things used to be. And using the body as a “vehicle” and your internal signals as its dashboard, Light shares why ignoring exhaustion, stress, and other warning signs can eventually interfere with where you’re trying to go.

Ultimately, the question isn’t simply whether you should put yourself or others first. It’s about understanding what you’re here to do and making choices that support your ability to fulfill that purpose—including recognizing when it may be time to say no, change course, or walk away.

How to Eliminate Self-Doubt Forever Sep 14, 2026
    Show notes

What if your intuition already knows the way forward, but you’ve become too distracted by worry, comparison, and other people’s opinions to hear it?
In this episode, Light explores intuition as a kind of internal GPS—an inner guidance system that becomes easier to follow when we stop trying to control every outcome. He explains how worry keeps us trapped in the future, regret keeps us stuck in the past, and both can prevent us from recognizing what’s right in front of us.
You’ll learn why trying harder to find an answer can sometimes make the answer more difficult to see, how meditation and inner work can help you become more comfortable with uncertainty, and why comparing your path to someone else’s can drown out your own intuition.
Light also explores the tricky difference between following your heart and following your ego—and why even taking a wrong turn can still be part of the journey.
The goal isn’t to eliminate uncertainty. It’s to become so familiar with your inner guidance that you no longer need to second-guess it.

The Lie You Tell Yourself About Peace Sep 07, 2026
    Show notes

There's a question most of us avoid asking ourselves — am I protecting my peace or am I just hiding from my life?

In this episode we explore the difference between genuine inner peace and the kind we perform for ourselves and others. We break down why the answer to this question is never either or — and why the spiritual perspective always holds both truths at the same time.

We share a raw and honest story about what it looks like when even the most practiced person loses their inner peace — and more importantly how quickly they can return to it. Because that's the real measure — not whether you lose it but how fast you bounce back.

We also explore why inner peace is less about avoiding life's messiness and more about building a baseline resilient enough to handle it. And why every time you invest in your inner work you're funding an insurance policy that protects you in ways you'll never fully see.

What To Do When Following Your Heart Backfires Aug 31, 2026
    Show notes

Most of us have been there — you took the leap, you followed your heart, and now things feel worse than before. The doubt creeps in. Maybe you made a mistake. Maybe this wasn't the right call after all.

In this episode we explore what it actually means when following your heart feels like it backfired — and why that feeling is not the indicator most people think it is. We break down the difference between the ground level perspective and the spiritual perspective, why not hitting your timeline is not the same as failing, and how to hold two contradictory truths in your awareness at the same time without giving up.

We also explore why life is essentially a choose your own adventure — why every path presents growth regardless of which direction you choose, why the comfort zone always costs more in the long run, and why the most important shift you can make is from trying to hear your inner guidance to simply stop ignoring what you already know.

If you took a leap of faith and it hasn't landed yet — this episode is for you.

This Is Why You're Stuck with the Same Problems Aug 24, 2026
    Show notes

Most of us assume our problems are caused by the people and circumstances around us. But what if the real source of your problems isn't out there — it's the bandwidth of your own awareness?

In this episode we explore why being upset with multiple people at the same time isn't a people problem — it's an awareness problem. We break down how consciousness works like an internet connection, and why a narrow bandwidth forces you to see the world through a dial-up lens — reactive, limited and slow to find solutions.

We also explore why you don't need to meditate on your specific problems to solve them, how simply expanding your awareness naturally surfaces more aligned solutions, and why the lag time between a problem arising and finding your response gets shorter the more you practice.

If you've ever found yourself stuck in the same frustrating cycles with the same people, this episode will give you a completely new framework for understanding why — and what upgrading your awareness actually looks like in practice.

How to Stay Present When Life Gets Overwhelming Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

Most of us only think about being present when life is already falling apart. But by then it's too late — the emotional demand has already exceeded your capacity to handle it.

In this episode we explore why staying present when life gets overwhelming isn't something you can just decide to do in the moment. Like physical fitness, presence is something you have to train for before life demands it from you.

We break down why happiness and presence are muscles that need to be exercised regularly, what it actually costs you emotionally when multiple hard things hit at the same time, and why most of the activities people use as meditation — walking, rock climbing, cold plunging — don't carry over into everyday life the way seated meditation does.

We also explore the carryover effect of meditation, why a wandering mind during practice is actually a sign it's working, and why meditation is the key domino that makes every other inner exercise possible.

If life feels overwhelming right now this episode will show you exactly how to train for it.

What Actually Heals Loneliness (It's Simpler Than You Think) | Michael Trainer & Light Watkins Aug 10, 2026
    Show notes

What if the loneliest place on earth isn't an empty room — it's a crowded one?
Michael Trainer has spent 30 years studying human connection, from indigenous healers in Sri Lanka to Harvard neuroscientists, and what he found will change the way you think about loneliness. Over 61% of Americans — including many who are married — identify as lonely. The surgeon general declared it a public health pandemic. And yet the cure might be simpler than you think.
In this episode, Michael shares how getting violently beaten by a gang at age 12 left him terrified of other people — and how that same wound eventually led him to co-found Global Citizen, raising over $40 billion to fight extreme poverty. He also opens up about watching his father slowly lose his mind to dementia, and the unexpected healing that came from filling his car with flowers and listening to strangers.
This is a conversation about what it actually means to feel seen, heard, and chosen — and how to build a life full of people who charge you up rather than drain you.

This Is What Chronic Stress Actually Does Aug 03, 2026
    Show notes

Most of us know that stress is bad for us. But very few people understand what it's actually doing inside the body — and why it's so hard to shake once it takes hold.

In this episode we break down the science of stress in plain language. We explore what stress actually is, why your body was only designed to be afraid of two things at birth, and how everything else became a learned fear response that keeps your nervous system stuck in survival mode.

We also break down the difference between fight or flight and rest and digest, why chronic stress essentially shuts down your immune system, digestion and ability to thrive, and how the body's stress algorithm works — and why it keeps reinforcing itself the longer it goes unchecked.

Most importantly we explore what actually interrupts that cycle, how the mind and body communicate through chemical messengers, and why getting back to your factory setting is not only possible but is what you were designed to do.

This Is Why You Can't Seem to Change Your Life (explained in 10 minutes) Jul 27, 2026
    Show notes

Most people who try to change their life fail — not because they lack motivation or desire, but because they're making the same mistakes over and over without realizing it.
In this episode we break down the most common mistakes people make when trying to create meaningful change. We explore why the outside-in approach to change almost always falls short, why motivation alone is never enough, and why blowing up your life for a fresh start is rarely the answer.
We also get into why magical thinking and vision boards without real systems will keep you stuck, why self-accountability is the least reliable form of accountability, and why the moment you stop waiting for other people to join you is actually the moment real change begins.
If you've ever started strong only to fall off after a few weeks, or wondered why lasting change feels so out of reach, this episode will show you exactly what's getting in the way — and what to do instead.

How Wallo267's 20-Year Prison Sentence Gave Him a Head Start in Life Jul 20, 2026
    Show notes

What does it take to turn a 20-year prison sentence into a head start in life? In this episode, Light Watkins sits down with Wallo267 — motivational speaker, marketing machine, and co-host of Million Dollaz Worth of Game — to trace his journey from the streets of Philadelphia to a cell at 17, and from his release at 37 to building one of the most recognizable brands in media.
Wallo shares why he calls prison the thing that saved his life, how watching Anthony Bourdain and studying commercials from a cell taught him marketing, and how he turned $1,000 and a pack of blank t-shirts into a career that now spans podcasts, TED Talks, bestselling books, and a Spotify deal.
Along the way, he breaks down his "moving car" theory of success, the difference between motivation and discipline, the freedom that comes from saying no, and why winners never waste time on losers' opinions. His new book, Yes to You, is out now — this conversation is a masterclass in choosing yourself.
