A Voice for the Voiceless with Linda Mac Dougall Mar 26, 2021
    Show notes

“I learned a long time ago the wisest thing I can do is be on my own side, be an advocate for myself and others like me.”- Maya Angelou Advocacy has taken on a whole new meaning as we find ourselves on the other side of Covid-19. The pandemic shined a bright light on what it feels like to not have someone that is speaking up for you. There have been many who had to endure hospital visits away from loved ones as they battled anything from symptoms of covid to common cold symptoms. The missing piece was having someone in the room that had your best interest at heart because of a personal connection. Linda, shared what that looked like for her during the pandemic. Linda's nuggets: ~ Time management matters when you are navigating unknown changes ~ Representation is most valuable with consistent communication ~ Looks for groups that represent you in your local area ~ Find ways to help fight the things that happen during isolation (Exercising, Games, Phone or zoom calls) As things were closed down, seniors found themselves without physical touch, smiling faces and companionship but that did not stop them. Technology came through in a big way to connect people to family and friends while also opening up opportunities to connect with the whole world. Meet Linda: Linda is a senior health advocate with an M.A. in counseling psychology, decades of working with people with developmental disabilities, and more recently with seniors. She is a massage therapist specializing in seniors and the disabled.
