    The Southern Outdoorsmen Hunting Podcast

The Southern Outdoorsmen is a weekly deer hunting podcast for serious DIY whitetail hunters, hosted by Andrew Maxwell and Jacob Myers. Since 2017 – across 800+ episodes – we've sat down with the best hometown deer hunters in the country: the guys quietly killing mature bucks year after year on the same public land, leases, hunting clubs, and family farms as everyone else, and broken down exactly how they do it.

Every Monday we drop a new episode on the woodsmanship that actually fills tags – scouting and reading terrain, deer behavior and the rut, trail camera strategy, bowhunting, public land tactics, and habitat management – with a heavy focus on the Southeast and hard-hunted ground across the country. No fluff, no big-name filler. Just proven whitetail tactics you can put to work this fall.

370 - Targeting BUCK HUBS with Shane Parker & Paul Putera May 16, 2022
    Show notes

For the last 2 years Shane Parker has ran around 170 trail cameras on around 800 acres of public land he hunts in Alabama. Using his massive amount of scouting data from these cameras he began to identify, & target "buck hubs". Paul Putera has noticed a similar phenomenon in the Northeast. Today we have them both on the show for part 1 of a series on buck hubs! Subjects in this episode include:

    • Shane's giant web of 170 cameras and weather stations across a relatively small area
    • Defining a buck hub, and how they are different from other hubs
    • How bedding directly relates to buck hubs
    • How Shane & Paul are catching mature bucks who routinely avoid trail cams with a purpose
    • Why mature bucks rarely use major deer trails & how to find their faint trails
    • And TONS more!
