Hey Friend!
I have had some BIG jobs to do lately! A 6,000 sqft home unpacking and organizing. An engineer's multiple work spaces, garages, shops, basement, and home full of all his projects and parts. And a family with an overwhelming amount of clothing, laundry, toys, and stuff. Along with the smaller projects and maintenance clients in between.
My favorite projects are the BIG messes! I just love it! I love how quickly the weight lifts off the shoulders of my clients, I love how the entire family seems happier after just a few hours of decluttering and organizing!
I start by clearing obvious trash, then creating categories of what is in the space, aka, putting like with like! When there are clear categories, it is easier to see what is important and what can go!
Many times, entire categories get donated, because they have moved on from that hobby, career, or advanced their skills, or they just loose interest in things.
To contain these categories, I use whatever is available to sort with, like grocery bags, cardboard boxes, laundry baskets, storage totes, pillow cases, and surface space either on floors or furniture! You don't have to go out and buy a bunch of organizing bins, just look around and use what you can find!
Sort into broad categories for the first round, then sort into more detailed as you go through each category. Example: Clothing, then adult/children, then by person, then by sizes, then into categories for each person for tops/bottoms/jackets, etc.., and always, always, ALWAYS have a donate bag ready so the items you KNOW need to go, can disappear and you aren't making the same decisions multiple times!
What clutter are you needing to simplify? I would love to walk with you on your journey!
HUGS,
Jenn
