When life is hard and chaotic, and you seem to lose your footing, it’s critical to be reminded of the truth of the gospel and the truth of your assurance. This is the promise Jen and AJ discuss on this week’s Sojo Show episode. And it’s a good one!
Scripture tells us we can be sure of the promise outlined in Romans 8:35, no matter what comes our way. We can be convinced that there is no power, nothing tangible or intangible, that can separate you from God’s love. There is no trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, sword, or ANYTHING ELSE that could ever separate you from the love of Christ.

Jena Fellers joins AJ on the Sojo Show today to share how she faced moments of doubt and hardship but chose to trust that God was guiding her path. And how we too can discover the strength that comes from exercising faith in God, especially when we need it the most.
Jena's story serves as a tremendous example of walking by faith, not by sight. Despite facing the unknown, she never gave up, continually seeking God's guidance. As Christians, we understand that falling down is inevitable, but, like Jena, we have the ability to get back up, trusting in God's plan for our lives.
We encourage you to listen to Jena's full story and reflect on the concept of trust in your own life. What does trust mean to you?

Have you ever done anything crazy, silly, dangerous, or stupid in order to fit in?
Today we are diving right into Galatians 1:10, and we can be encouraged by Paul’s example of not seeking the approval of man, but the approval of God. This single verse brings a valuable lesson for us and it’s one you do NOT want to miss!
We all want to fit in, not only in our personal lives, but we can feel the pressure in the church as well.
Today’s million dollar question of how to live free from people pleasing is discussed on the podcast this week. (And the answer is quite “simple”.)
So tune in today and listen to Paul’s story and how we can operate outside the box to seek God's approval and not man’s.

Today we welcome another special guest to the show: Sharon Wilharm!
Sharon is a Christian speaker, a bible storyteller, an award-winning filmmaker, and host of the All God's Women podcast. The unique and fascinating thing about Sharon is that she has enjoyed a lifelong fascination with the women in the Bible, and she loves applying Bible stories to our situations today. How cool is that?
So today we are being inspired by stories of women in the Bible. Women that were flawed, just like us, but faithful. And we probably have women reading this who are in a hard spot, experiencing loss or heartache like the women of the Bible. But the women of the Bible can inspire us in whatever situation we're in.
If you are working hard to use your gifts for the glory of God, but don't feel like you have a whole lot to offer, this episode is for you.
Our lives, no matter who we are, can reflect a great God. And He is not limited by our limitations. He can use anybody. He uses us all and we can rest in that.
We can trust that he can use our lives no matter who we are or what season of life we're in or what age we are.

In this episode, Jen and AJ highlight an excellent conversation they had with Sojo Academy members. This week, they had so much encouragement from the members about the false narrative that the enemy tries to give us the truth of the gospel that we must all cling to. And how that allows us to be beautiful before the Father, because of the beauty of Christ.
Our June Bible study aimed to look at how people from the Bible recognized and fulfilled their God-given purposes, so we can better understand our purpose, and calling. Even if that purpose is found in mundane days and a seemingly endless to-do list of small tasks. Really to help our audience to gain clarity and uncover their unique purposes aligned with God's plan.
If you're not in the Academy, take this opportunity to hear from these women and their takeaways from this month's study that covers finding their God-given purposes.

Sometimes when you have a lot of responsibility, when you feel the weight of said responsibility, sometimes it's just easier to not lean into that responsibility, yes? We shy away from it or even ignore it. The question then becomes, will we continue to walk down in disobedience? Or do we step up?
Today's episode talks about confidence. About a man named Saul who lacked confidence and was disobedient and really failed in his calling, and how we, as we're discovering our God-given purpose, can succeed in ours. (and we use the word succeed loosely because it's not us. It's all God.)
Enjoy the story of Saul and learn how to stand firm in your calling and not chicken out.

In today’s episode, Jen and AJ are pulling the curtains back on Sojo Academy and doing something a little different! If you are not familiar, inside the Academy, we meet every week on Zoom. One of our calls is called “Coffee chat”, where we and other members share our takeaways on the Bible study that we're going through that month!
We wanted to share the Coffee Chat from the Nehemiah study with you because there were so many important points that were brought out that the Holy Spirit really just pinpointed in the lives of our Sojo members. And we were able to see how they directly apply to us today.
If you're not in the Academy, take this opportunity to hear from these women and reflect on what God has to tell you through this beautiful book.
Prayer isn't just about making the request or seeing if God's gonna answer. It's about confidence, assurance, boldness, and power.

In today’s episode, Jen and AJ are looking at Nehemiah's chapter 8. At this point, the wall was rebuilt, but they were not ready to end the togetherness that they had and the centrality of God that they had experienced through the building of the wall.
“All the people gathered as one man, so their hearts were completely united around. The desire to hear the word of God.”
No matter where you are in your life, if you're aware, if you're convicted, if you feel that to any degree, that's a grace from God.
God wants YOUR heart as well.
Give this episode a listen if you need an encouraging reminder that God can build that desire in your heart.

in today’s episode, Jen and AJ are looking at Nehemiah's chapter 6 and talking about the different types of distractions that Nehemiah faced and how this relates to our lives today.
Do you have a problem setting boundaries? With saying “No”? Nehemiah is an example of saying no to quite a few different things. He had the discernment to understand why he needed to say no, and why it was actually imperative for him to say no.
And that’s what we are talking about today! We can see from the life of Nehemiah, a great example of somebody who was a leader, yet lived in constant dependence on God. Let's use today’s episode to remember our mission, and remember the reason that we MUST sometimes say no.
Our mission is to build the kingdom of God and to glorify him so that he can draw others unto himself.

In today’s episode, Jen and AJ are discussing Nehemiah chapters 4 and 5, and looking at two different ways we encounter opposition + how to overcome them!
We discuss what that means for us as believers in Christ and what takeaways we can bring to our everyday lives.
AJ also shared that the body of Christ is only as strong as the weakest link. The Christian life isn't a solo sport. Recognizing how we ourselves may need to strengthen our walk is really important. We can't fix the wall in our lives, culture, or generation unless we know what the breaches are.
If you want to dive deep into what the two oppositions we face as Christians are AND ways to overcome them and strengthen your faith, this episode is for you!

This month, we are talking about the fascinating book of Nehemiah and today especially Nehemiah chapter 3.
This chapter is pretty much a list of all of these different people with different roles and different socioeconomic statuses. They have different jobs, different titles, and yet they're all working together for one common mission.
We see this beautiful picture of our differences not mattering when we have the commonality of a goal in mind.
We see this in the New Testament as well in the body of Christ. We're different members, but we're all part of the same body, and that means that no one of us is any better than anybody else.
This is a good example of how the entire word of God is important for our lives because even a chapter like Nehemiah 3 with just a list of names can speak to us in such a powerful way if we allow the Holy Spirit to do that.

In this episode, Jen and AJ will talk about Nehemiah: the background, the historical context of this book, and some of their biggest takeaways from Nehemiah 1 and 4.
We see how God used one man's burden to fulfill this incredible rebuilding and restoration.
Nehemiah goes to God in prayer and he worships God. And that is a great foundation for us when we are in those times of waiting and when we are painfully crying out to God.
What we do in these moments is so telling for our hearts, isn't it? It just reveals the state of our hearts. Are we gonna worship him? Are we going to keep believing Him in those moments of painful waiting?
Nehemiah went to God in prayer. He turned to God in his pain.
And If you're listening to this podcast, that means you are in the top percentage of people in this world. You have been given things. You have the ability, you have the technology to listen. You have either a computer or a phone.
Are we allowing ourselves to just sit in that ease? Or are we using our influence to better the kingdom of God?

The best experience is being rescued from our sins. And from God's wrath. But knowing who He is and knowing who you are in Christ as a believer, does more for your confidence and your identity than anything else. And that comes from the Word of God.” - AJ

This week, Jen and AJ introduce us to the story of the week: the Rechabites - from Jeremiah 35 and how it compares to Romans 8:12-13!
The Rechabites were nomads, always wandering from place to place. In Jeremiah 35, they were tested by God through Jeremiah when he offered them wine.
Rechabites are an example to us. They said no to cultural norms. They had to give up land ownership and certain other things in order to obey the commands of their forefathers. And that's what it is for us as life of a believer too. We have to say, yes, I'm going to follow Christ. When we are trusting in Christ, we are living in the spirit, and yet we are given commands, we are given things to do that can only be done by Christ living in us.
As believers, we have something so much more powerful than rules and the law. The law points out what's right and wrong, but what it is not able to do is empower us to live accordingly.
We have something so much more powerful than just the law because we have the spirit of God, which indwells us. He is giving life to our mortal bodies.
This is a story about obedience and faithfulness. Listen to today’s episode and fill your heart with reminders of the goodness of following God’s Word. We hope you see the Rechabites as an example to us believers.

In this episode, join Jen and AJ as they look at Ezekiel 37, and compare it to Romans 8, showing how even when you are in the middle of your despair when there seems to be no life left, the Spirit of God will breathe new life into your circumstances.
This is one of the times when the Old Testament clearly points to the truth of new life and resurrection.
When we are dead, we are dried, we're absolutely helpless and hopeless apart from Jesus Christ, He breathes his new life into us and we are actually dwelt by the very spirit of God.
Tune in today and dive into Ezekiel’s third vision where God showed him in the middle of a valley full of bones a picture of what God does for us spiritually.
When you are in a place where you just can't see past your own dryness, failure, or despair, you can trust your Creator and your Recreator. Remember that God has reclaimed you.
We hope this episode encourages your heart.

This month we are starting a new series: Romans 8 Revealed in the Old Testament! And today we are talking about snakes! Snakes in Scripture are not portrayed as the best of creatures. So when we look at the whole fact that God chose a serpent in the story we are discussing today is significant.
So tune in and let’s dive into Numbers 21:4-9 and be reminded of the promises from Romans 8 and that God has always provided a way for us to be saved from the condemnation of sin. We just need to believe and cling to Him.
Do you think that your sin (in any circumstance you've been through) is bigger than God's mercy?

In today’s episode, we're finishing up the Praying the Promises of the Cross series and looking into Jen’s favorite verse.
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. - Romans 8:18
If you open up to the beauty of this verse in the Bible, you will be transformed. Your entire perspective on your earthly existence will be changed.
And this episode will help you with this perspective. We rejoice in our sufferings knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character. Character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame because God's love is poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

Today we are focusing on Romans 8:14-16.
There is so much to unpack from these three verses, but what really stands out to us is the concept of sonship. If we are trusting in Christ, we are all adopted.
Adoption is a biblical concept. Whether you’ve ever adopted before, we can all understand the concept of taking in something or someone who may not have had a home. AJ shares part of her adoption story in this episode and reminds us that, like AJ’s daughters, we are not only daughters, but we are heirs to Christ.
When you are adopted, you’re an equal. You were actually chosen. God has chosen you! If you are trusting in him, He has pursued you. He knows you better than anybody. He knows your needs before you ask. He has taken you in, at the price of His son’s blood.

Well, we aren’t actual superheroes, BUT we do have enemies. For a believer, there's an enemy in the world that prowls, seeking whom he may devour.
As we continue our Praying the Promises Series here at Sojo Show podcast, we are once again looking at Romans 8, and today particularly, we are looking into Romans 8:31. It’s a short but super duper-powerful verse.
So... who’s against us?
It's not just the principalities and powers and the devil and those who are hostile to God, but it can also be our own conscience. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. Our own thinking can sabotage us. And that’s why Romans 8:31 is a promise that we can use to do battle!
Tune in today and dive into Romans 8:31 as we unravel this promise of the cross: God is for you.

In today’s episode, you’ll have to bear with us, because the first 5 minutes is just Jen trying to focus on answering AJ’s question: What do you feel guilty about? And the result is absolutely hilarious.
For the answer, you’ll need to listen to the episode, because we don’t want to spill the beans here, considering that Jen’s husband doesn’t know she was oversharing. Jokes aside, the question is actually relevant and ties into our topic today as we discuss another of God’s promises.
Today we're talking about the first two verses of Romans 8, about condemnation, sin, conviction, and Jen’s secrets!
At the end of the day, we still sin daily. And yet the promise of this incredible verse applies to the past, present and future sin. Be sure to listen for good news!

As a child, was there ever a time when you were convinced something was true, only to later find out that it wasn’t?
Like Santa Claus? Or the Tooth Fairy? Or perhaps, as Jen believed, swallowing gum would cause your insides to stick together?
This may be a silly example, but the question is actually relevant and ties into our topic today as we discuss another of God’s promises.
The cool thing about the promise we discuss today is that it comes with assurance. Scripture tells us we can be convinced and absolutely sure of this promise no matter what comes our way.
Join us in today’s episode as we look at the last two verses in Romans 8 and discover what assurance you can have regarding God’s love for you.

Besides discussing the common fascination with life and death, Jen and AJ explore perhaps the most beautiful chapter in the Bible – Romans 8.
The idea of life and death is actually one of the most important spiritual themes that have ever been discussed, making it extremely good news for us as believers.
You’ll be encouraged during this week’s episode to know that as children of God, we have God’s Spirit within us to empower (ENLIVEN) us. Just think about what it took to raise Jesus from the dead. It’s the same spirit, the same power, that raises us from spiritual death and incapacity! That is the same spirit we have in us - enabling us to fulfill our roles and responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.
Be sure to tune in to this week’s episode and have your heart encouraged by the TRUTH from God’s word.

Has there been a time in your life when you knew in your head that God loved you, but you didn't feel it? Have you ever asked, “God, do you really care? Do you really understand?”
God desires us to know completely in body, soul, and spirit, which includes our emotions, and His love. It means that we can foster our emotional health with God's truth.
Today’s episode is about AJ’s testimony of the power of God's Word and the power of standing on the promises and how it does transform you.
As a sneak peek, a few years ago, AJ came across the verse in 2 Corinthians 1:20 that says all the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus. And today’s episode is about how AJ transformed a painful moment in her life into a fresh look at the promises of the cross, and how she used that to learn and cultivate her relationship with the Lord.
By the end of the episode, Jen and AJ show how you too can experience transformation. They have an invitation for you that will improve your prayer life and bring healing to your emotions: the Praying the Promises of the Cross-Free Challenge!

However, we need to understand that God has given us boundaries because He loves and cares for us. He's given us boundaries to protect us.

Tune in to listen to a powerful episode where we talk about circumcision. Not the physical act itself, but what it represented in the Old Testament and what it represents now.
It is a physical and spiritual obedience to God's command.
Deliberating obedience to weakness and trusting in the midst of that.

In today’s episode, we are welcoming another amazing guest, Brandice from Grace Filled Plate. She started her journey as a personal trainer and nutrition coach. Through that career, she was able to see that people don't change easily without knowing Jesus and the work of the Spirit.
Today you’ll hear:
- The background behind this whole topic of weight loss, body image, the weight gain/loss cycle, and the marketing schemes of the world we get hoodwinked into;
- How bringing God into our health and fitness and relying on the Lord can bring about change through His strength;
- A beautiful invite for us to start seeing things through the lens of our faith'
- How our approach to EVERYTHING in life, including the desire to lose weight, must align with the truths and principles of Scripture.
As we talk about diet, culture, and the like, remember the foundation: your identity is not in your weight or how you look, your identity is in who you are in Christ.

In today’s episode, Jen and AJ share an overview of the first chapter of Joshua and the leader itself: the man called by God to fill the role that Moses had previously filled. This is a significant call on the life of Joshua.
The cool thing is to realize how everything in God’s word is connected. From God promising Abraham the land 400 years prior, to Moses leading the people to it and Joshua bringing them in. We walk you through all the details and connections and how applicable this old testament book actually is to our everyday life.
We really encourage you to listen to this jam-packed episode and identify the promises that God spoke to Joshua because he is the same God and the same promises apply to us.

There's a lot of joy at Christmas. And yet, there’s a lot of pain too, especially for people who have lost loved ones or who have painful memories around this time of year.
We want to acknowledge there is pain and there's suffering and it's part of our lives and yet, for those of us who are in Christ, we still have hope, even in the midst of our darkest hours.
Back in episode 10, we talked about a woman who demonstrated faithfulness in pain: Hannah. Do you remember her story?
Her story shows us that God is not only sovereign over the nations and history, but He's also sovereign over our lives and always has a reason for what happens in our lives, even the hard things.
Sometimes we just need to take a step back and remember that God allows things for a reason. And there is no wasted pain when we belong to Christ.

Today we are reintroducing one of our top podcasts of 2022: The Proverbs 31 Woman.
The woman of Proverbs 31 simply looks perfect . She’s a good reminder that it isn’t fair for us to look at Proverbs 31 as a mirror and compare ourselves to the woman we find here. Comparison has never really been super helpful or healthy, especially when we go back to the gospel and know we can never compare to the standard that God has set (which is perfection.)
Reality check: We know we're probably never going to tick all the boxes on this chapter.
This whole idea behind the Proverbs 31 woman is actually a heart issue.
We want to emphasize that going into this next year, we should focus on cultivating a heart that fears the Lord, that remembers the gospel, and remembers who we are in Christ.
And that is what this episode is all about. We can still be a woman of virtue when we simply walk in the fear of the Lord.

Our anxieties, fears, insecurities, doubts, or all of the negativity we live with on a day-to-day basis, whether internal or external are NOT permanent. They’re not the final word. And we can shift our focus from the here and now to heaven and to the spiritual dimension that is there.
We have the tools to battle it and these are just some practical steps you can take as you are facing this holiday season.

Today we are continuing our series on the book of Colossians. The podcast discussion is centered around Colossians 1:24-29 where Paul talks about rejoicing in suffering.
That’s a hard phrase!
We all have gone through periods of suffering in our lives. We live in a world where there is a lot of suffering. Having a solid, biblical view of suffering can help us weather the storms with humility, grace, and strength
And can we just say, if you are going through a season of suffering right now, we have a God who does not throw a three-pointer at the end of the ballgame to win at the last minute. No, He is the Victor, the Sovereign One in control each step of the way. And He’s got this. We hope this reminder brings peace to your heart.
Give this powerful episode a listen.

Today we're gonna dive a bit deeper into two verses in Colossians chapter 1:
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”
After you read these 2 verses and listen to this powerful episode, the important thing of this passage is to realize that anything you can point to is under the sovereignty of the creator God.
If you are ever needing to see the heart of God, look to Jesus because that's where you'll find it. You will find His holiness, His sovereignty, but also His love and His compassion as well.

We're starting a series on one of Jen’s very favorite books of the Bible: Colossians, one of the richest, theologically, deep books on the supremacy of Christ that we have!
One cool thing about this particular letter is that Paul, who's writing this letter, had never actually been to Colossae.
Tune in today and you’ll hear:
Our hope as a believer is not the wishful thinking kind. It is a hope that is secure. And that is the difference between our hope as a believer versus any other kind of hope out there. We have solid ground to know one day our hopes will become reality.

Today we're talking about one of the basic Spiritual disciplines we think EVERYONE needs to get back to: journaling.
In today’s new extra episode you’ll hear:
… and MUCH MORE!
The Bible tells us to examine ourselves, and our hearts. If we can't slow down long enough to acknowledge how we are feeling, what’s going on internally… time to really think through, “why am I doing this?”, “Why did I respond to anger in that?”, then we're not truly examining ourselves. And journaling is a tool to help us slow down.

There are many ways that we can get the word into our heart. A lot of people don't even realize that scripture reading is different from scripture study.
However really getting the Word of God in you is critical and one of the basic spiritual disciplines that we all need to be practicing because of its benefits.

In today’s episode, we dive into King David’s story, a good example of how he takes his anxiety, fear, and doubts, and works through them by adjusting his focus to God.
It’s a POWERFUL example we too can follow! When it comes to dealing with our anxious thoughts, we believe bringing a biblical example is where the most help is!
Trust God and take a step of faith. Anxiety does not have the final word.

*This is a very raw and vulnerable episode with AJ, in which she shares about her childhood trauma. It comes with a trigger warning as it may be sensitive to some audiences.
Anxiety.
Just the word can produce negative feelings, can’t it?
Well, during the month of August we are starting a new series on the podcast and will be discussing ANXIETY, how to overcome it and how to calm our souls in a chaotic world.
In today’s very special episode you’ll hear:
… and so MUCH MORE.
There is not a person who has lived who has not felt the bite of anxiety. And yes, that includes Christians. The difference is that as Christians, we have extra weapons to use in the fight and we are promised victory over it.

In today’s episode, Jen and AJ had a special talk about the LAST fruit of the Spirit: SELF-CONTROL:
- How sports help explain this fruit of the spirit (Paul uses this earthly example of what's going on in the spiritual realm);
- How we practice self-control;
- The benefits of self-control;
… and MUCH MORE!
Spoiler Alert! Self-control requires effort on our part! But the grace of God is our provision to say no, to live self-controlled, to exercise discipline, and to do it every day.
Remember: As we abide in Christ, and remain in the vine, these fruits are a result He produces. We don't strive for self-control or patience. We strive to abide in Christ.

Jen and AJ had a special talk about:
- Why this fruit is also known as meekness;
- What is the biblical definition of meekness (it's not the same as our understanding of the English word!);
- How the word meekness is closely linked with the word humility!
- How humbling and submitting ourselves to all things as being from God is at the root of gentleness.
… and MUCH MUCH MORE!
If you are someone who struggles with understanding the biblical meaning of meekness/gentleness or maybe feels like you just aren’t a gentle person, we encourage you to listen to this week’s episode!

If you started humming an old Tina Turner song at the title, Jen would probably approve, but today’s episode has nothing to do with Tina’s famous song. Today we are diving deep into the first fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23: LOVE.
In this episode, Jen and AJ talk about what they’ve learned about Biblical love through the years, what stood out for them during this part of their study, and practical ways to produce this fruit.
They also discussed that not all of us realize there are numerous words for LOVE in the New Testament. The fact that the scripture gets so specific is really helpful for our understanding of what love is.

We are starting a new series this month- yay! During May, we’ll be doing a series called, Encouragement for Women in Ministry in which we’ll be sharing encouragement from other women in ministry. Our hope is that their words and kindness will be a sort of friendship to all of us.
For this episode, Jen and AJ shared practical ways for when women in ministry feel lonely. You’ll hear tips to implement for getting that peace that comes in knowing that Christ is our friend.
AJ started by sharing that her family has had the privilege of welcoming a Ukrainian refugee family to their community recently. She said it was a really sweet time but also made her realize how much caregivers need to be cared for as well. Jen and AJ reminded us how important it is to have friends who can restore you, who can speak nourishment to your heart, and who can be there for you. They mentioned this need specifically for those in ministry.
And remember: Wherever you are, God sees you. Jesus will be that friend you need. We have to continue making sure our identity is in Christ and not in a relationship regardless of what it is. Christ can be and should be all that we need
Come take this journey with us!

In today's episode, we have a wonderful guest joining us: Laura Susan Cain! Our special guest is a dear friend of Jen’s and we invited her to the podcast to help us wrap our brains around why hymns should matter to us.
We answered so many good questions about how the hymns are relevant to us… and the benefits of listening, learning, and singing it! But we didn’t stop right there, we also discussed one specific hymn: This is my Father’s World.
"We are sojourners in this world, and we are merely traveling through it. It is God’s World, and for that, we can praise Him and relax into the knowledge that all things work together for the good of those who love Him." (see Romans 8:28)
We encourage you to listen to this new episode, read the hymn “My father's world” and be reminded of the truth of God’s sovereignty and His goodness. Then share it with someone else, whether it's your child, your husband, or a friend. Someone needs this reminder!

This episode is a little different. It had the greatest feature of all time: the SOJO MEMBERS! Yes, that’s right. Our wonderful members shared stories and contributed to this very special episode.
So, tune in to this MUST LISTEN episode to dive into the hymn AJ wanted to sing on her wedding 28 years ago - but most importantly: The hymn that makes her want to worship God even in the midst of life’s problems, financial situations, and all of the things that would distract us from the glory of God.
We all need to look at something greater than ourselves, which is basically what worship is. Worship is recognizing the glory of something else and living in awe of that.
So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy this “full of encouragement and raw vulnerability” episode!
Don't forget to listen with an open heart and put yourself in the situations discussed as well, allowing God to speak to you through our show today.
We hope you enjoy this unusual but vulnerable show. It was so authentic and super encouraging for us from Sojo Academy.
If you enjoyed the show, leave a review, rate, or share the podcast with your friends and family.

In the second podcast episode from our Hymn Series, we are looking at one of the most powerful and beloved hymns from the 19th century: ‘Jesus paid it all’ written by Elvina Hall in 1865.
This is a beautiful hymn to understand and dive into, especially this Easter season. In this episode, we discuss how it represents Jesus as our propitiation or SPONGE.
This is one of the greatest truths about the Gospel! Jesus Christ absorbed the wrath of God for us. Any wrath or any recompense that is poured out towards us in payment for our sin, Christ comes between us and that judgment from God. He absorbs it.
For this week, so close to Easter, we challenge you to:
Listen to the new episode and dive in with us into this beautiful hymn, and be thankful, grateful, and mindful of sacrifices made, but even more than that remember that:
You have a God who loves you enough to send His son to die for you while you were still a sinner. You can trust God, and you can still rest in Him and in the promises of the cross.
Accept that gift, the gift of propitiation. Amen!

We are starting a new series in April called: The Gospel in Hymns.
You will take a journey through history and learn about the hymn writers and the circumstances surrounding certain songs, and then we’ll dig into the passages in the Word of God that inspired them.
This week we kick off our series by taking a look at a hymn called Rock of Ages written by Augustus M. Toplady in 1776.
“The blood of Christ is stronger than our sin and that's the whole point of the Gospel. So that's just something that we can with full trust, continue to preach to our hearts” - Arabah Joy.
Tune in to find out what instrument Jen played when she was younger in school! We’ve got to say; it took AJ by surprise!
But most importantly, learn and understand how each stanza from this amazing hymn relates to the scripture and how we can take those lessons into our lives.
We hope you enjoy this fun and powerful series.

In this week's episode, the final episode from the “Faith Full: Extraordinary Women of the Bible” series, we talk about Martha.
We recognize Martha as a worrywart, the sister of Mary and Lazarus. But on today’s podcast, we would love for there to be a change in perspective of Martha by the time we wrap up the episode!
In John 11, Jesus specifically goes out of his way to encounter Martha. Chronologically, this encounter is AFTER He finds her stewing about Mary not helping her in the kitchen.
John 11 shows how pursuing Jesus was of Martha, how accepting He was of her, but also how He wasn't going to let her remain in the worrisome state she was in.
And this is the shepherd pursuing His sheep. When you read this chapter with that background and understanding, it changes everything… just as it changes Martha, as we will see.
Jesus loved Martha.
He said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me though, Shall he live? And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Jesus is really calling out the faith in Martha.
He goes on to promise her: If you will believe me, if you will put your faith in me, you will see the glory of God. And that it's true for all of us. When we put our faith in God, we get front row seats to His glory.
There was no guarantee as to what the glory was. And yet when we actively put our faith in Christ, we are promised to see His glory in some way.
We also talk about the shortest verse in the Bible: John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” The context of the verse is precious!
Jesus knew His power to overcome, and He knew He was going to raise Lazarus from the dead. So why was He crying? Is He weeping over the loss of Lazarus? When He knows he's about to raise him from death?
He's weeping because of his love for Mary and Martha and all of the people that are gathered crying.
God knows our future. We even know our eventual futures because if we are trusting in Him, we will live forever with Him one day.
Yet there is still weeping in this life. There is still pain. There is still hardship. There is still trouble. We're promised that.
But we have a Christ….we have a father… we have a Jesus who weeps with us and He waits to intervene because He loves us.
Weeping with others can be such a powerful gift to give, as Jesus demonstrated here for his friends. It's great to rejoice and it's great to share promises and truths that are encouraging, but also just sitting there and giving that grief back is a blessing too.

In this week's episode, the third from the “Faith Full: Extraordinary Women of the Bible” series, we talk about Sarah!
We discuss how Sarah and Abraham were both imperfect humans and their faith was totally imperfect too. Yet these two imperfect people, with imperfect faith, were still given the gift and the blessing of being called the father/mother of the nations.
Likewise, when we exercise a little bit of trust as Sarah did over and over through her story, God is drawn to it. He can't help but step in and do whatever it takes to keep us standing. We don’t know about you, but that fulfillment of faith incredibly encourages us and makes us want to step up with our faith!
We also share the role of laughter in Sarah’s story. Sarah first laughs with unbelief and cynicism in the Scriptures. Yet when God’s promise is finally fulfilled later in the story and Sarah gives birth to Isaac, she laughs again. And this time her laughter is one of joy. It's almost like she can laugh with joy because she realizes that God's promises are true.
In fact, Isaac means “he who laughs”. The theme of laughter goes throughout Sarah's life and all that she went through, including her disbelief and her belief.
Our question for you this week is: “How do we turn our laughter from skeptical unbelief to a laughter of joy?” Is there a circumstance or situation you are laughing in cynicism over? If so, ask yourself, “How can I turn this unbelief into joy?”
The promises of God are powerful. They're significant. And we need to grip onto them just as much as Abraham and Sarah did.

In this week's podcast episode, we talk about a woman from the Bible who demonstrated faithfulness even when it hurt: Hannah.
As we talk through Hannah’s story, you’ll see that Hannah is a good example of purpose in pain. She cried to God and for a time, God was silent.
Yet her story shows us God is not only sovereign over the nations and history, but He's also sovereign over our individual lives and always has a reason for what happens, even the hard things.
“Sometimes it’s just taking a step back and remembering that God allows things for a reason, and there is no wasted pain when we belong to Christ.” Arabah Joy.
If God is silent in your life right now or has given you a “no”, we encourage you to listen to this week’s episode. Let the lessons from Hannah’s story encourage you that God hasn’t forsaken or forgotten.

How many times are we faithless in our day-to-day walk with God? And then allow the weight of our faithlessness to bring us down?
Today we are starting a brand new series called Faith Full: Extraordinary Women of the Bible. It’s a biographical* study of four different women.
This week we kick off our series talking about a woman in the Old Testament: Deborah.
Judges preceded the Kings in Israel's history and Deborah was the only female judge mentioned in Scripture.
Our story picks up when Deborah tells Barak what God told her: that Barak needs to take his men out to battle and God will deliver them over to him. Barak’s response? “If you will go with me, then I will go. But if you will not go, I'm not going. “
This answer gives us an idea of Barak’s confidence level..
But hello friends, if you go to Hebrews 11:33, who do you find in that big, long list of people that are considered faithful?
Barak.
Oh my, how this hits home! How many times are we faithless in our day-to-day walk with God? We can drop the ball, we can become timid. We can become afraid of circumstances or the unknown. There are so many things that can shake us in our faith.
Listen to the episode to find out the what is the biggest takeaway from the story of Deborah!

Do you remember a time when you took a tentative step into something a little bit unknown and a lot scary?
In today’s episode, the fourth episode of our confidence series, Cultivating Unshakable Confidence, we talked about someone who took a big, courageous step.: Joshua.
When Moses died, God asked Joshua to be strong and courageous, because he would lead the people of Israel to the promised land.
“Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you..” - Joshua 1:5
And then the famous words:
“Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause these people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.” - Joshua 1:6
Not only did God promise Joshua the promised land, but He promised to be with him in that place. For us too, it isn’t just a matter of going; It's a matter of being in our “there” together with God.
We enjoyed talking about our need to focus our minds on promises. Although God gave Joshua a command (as he does us!), if we feel compelled by commands only, we are going to work ourselves to the bone and will grow exhausted fast. But if we can keep our eyes on the promise and the provisions behind the command, then we are equipped to actually do it.
We also had a good discussion about how we don't have to invent our own righteousness. We don't need to invent our own godly desires. All of those things come from Him, part of our inheritance when we are in Christ.
Finally, we talk about practical things we can do. The biggest practical step Joshua took is that the book of instruction did not depart from his mouth or his mind. Joshua carefully rehearsed God's Word, God's truth. We are not promised an easy life as Christians. Matter of fact, we are promised that in this life we will have trouble. Yet whatever it is we face, God encourages us to be strong and courageous and fix our minds on His truth. And that is to the grace and the mercy and the glory of the One who rescues.

In today’s episode, and third of the Confidence series, we talked about Saul and how he hid from the responsibility that God gave him.
We particularly love these examples from scripture of real people, real men, real women who have failed, because they're relatable. We see ourselves in these stories. It also makes us realize that we can’t get ourselves out of the negative parts of the story, the cowardice, the identity issues, all of a sudden or on our own, without Christ who lives in us.
Saul reminds us of Moses’ episode (episode #6), when he was doubting himself and his abilities to do what God wanted him to do. He asked, “Who am I to do this?”.
Saul had the same doubts: “Why me?” He even hid behind luggage to try to escape, but he eventually does accept his call, and he actually does step up and does some good things. At some point along the way, however, we can see Saul becoming a little lazy in his obedience, feeling the pressure of others around him and that’s when he started doing things his way.
He became a people pleaser and used that as an excuse to not obey God. Spoiler alert: God wasn't happy with that. One thing AJ and Jen could see in Saul - and that we really don't see in a lot of other places in scripture - is a level of cowardice. In the end, his disobedience caused him to lose his kingship.
“He's not leading the people in a courageous manner. He's being a coward and time and time again, this becomes the pattern of his life.”
Cowardice led Saul to keep walking on the path of disobedience and there is a lesson for us. We're all going to disobey to some extent, and we're all going to fail and we're all going to hide in the luggage at times. At some point in our lives, we're all going to do those things.
The question is, do we continue to walk in that disobedience? Or do we step up like Moses eventually did as we discussed in the last episode? Moses had a lot of excuses too, but he eventually put his trust in God.
And as we have seen from the life of Moses (episode 6), we saw it in Jeroboam (episode 5) and here we see it with Saul: What is most important is your faith in our God who can do all things through His character, His promises, His abilities, and His sovereignty.

A jam-packed episode with hands-on tips for dealing with insecurity in a biblical manner.
Have you ever wondered, “Who am I to do these things?”
God has an answer for all of these questions when He calls you to do something. And friend, your job is to step forward and do what He is asking, trusting that He's got this.
In today’s episode, the second in our Confidence series, we talk about Moses, and how he felt out of place. He did not feel man enough to fulfill what God had given him to do. But in the end, Moses did not let that stop him. Nor should you.
During our discussion today on Moses’s conversation with God, AJ and Jen identified three different insecurities that Moses had: 1) identity insecurity, 2) inability insecurity, 3) credibility insecurity.
When Moses said, “Who am I to do this?” He didn't think he had what it took. We all can relate to that, right? When we stumble over our own shortcomings, weaknesses, inabilities, or unmet expectations of ourselves, we are identifying with this insecurity.
While we may struggle with various insecurities, God's response to Moses is so, so good. He told Moses, “I will certainly be with you,” effectively silencing Moses’s voices of doubt and fear. By the end of this discussion, both Jen and AJ had a takeaway phrase:
“Your insecurities may actually be the reason God is choosing to use you.” - Jen Evangelista
“Insecurity is not relevant to God.” - Arabah Joy.

What areas of your life do you struggle with fear or insecurity?
This week we are starting a new series: Cultivating Unshakable Confidence.
The only way to have unshakeable confidence is to be aware of and sure of the promises of God and the truth of the gospel. Over the next few episodes, we will take a look at four different men from the Bible and the things we can learn from their lives to help us build the unshakable confidence that only comes through the knowledge that we are in Christ and Christ is in us.
In today’s episode, and first of the Confidence series, we talked about king Jeroboam and how he was afraid of loss, afraid of losing what God had already given him. How many times have WE feared loss?

Be honest - Have you ever sort of resented the woman from Proverbs 31?
In our study of Proverbs, we have learned the majority of proverbs have been written by King Solomon as the first 22 chapters or so were written by him. All these proverbs are useful for anybody, but then we end the book with this very special chapter that elevates the beauty and grace of womanhood.
In episode 4 (the last one from the Proverbs series), AJ and Jen tell it all on the Proverbs 31 woman- no holding back!
Is it fair for us to look at Proverbs 31 as a mirror and compare ourselves to the woman we find here? Comparison has never really been super helpful or healthy, especially when we go back to the gospel and know we can never compare to the standard that God has set (which is perfection.) Reality check: We know we're probably never going to tick all the boxes on this chapter. We close out our series on Proverbs with an honest discussion on the Proverbs 31 woman and how we can avoid falling down the pit of despair when we compare ourselves with her.

We decided to launch a BONUS episode so you can get to know the voices behind the podcast, AJ and Ginger, er, I mean, Jen :)
This episode is a little bit behind-the-scenes and off the cuff. Just AJ and Jen talking like they're sitting in your living room drinking tea or coffee. (in fact, they were sitting in a living room chatting with Sojo Academy friends... you get to listen in)
Oh, and super serious question we need your input on... are the 80's songs the best? And who do you think is the best dancer in this duo? We have ongoing discussions about these things, so want to know your thoughts!
Disclaimer: the original audio is from an impromptu (and hilarious) FB Live Jen and AJ did for the Sojo Academy members after Christmas when they were announcing the podcast (and totally acting the fool, lol). So, sorry for not having the best quality audio this time!
Also, listen to this bonus episode and find out about the day Jen made AJ pee her pants! And yes, it was totally Jen's fault, AJ doesn't have a bladder problem.
Our regular show will be released on January 31 so be sure to look for Episode 4. It's the last one from the Proverbs Series and is a must-listen for sure. See you there.

What is something you have recently searched for and why?
We search for something when it is important, right? In today’s podcast, we talk about King Hezekiah and how he searched for Solomon’s wisdom. Did you know that part of the book of Proverbs was actually compiled by King Hezekiah? Interesting fact, yes?
We discuss that on this episode and we also talked about the weirdest food Arabah Joy and Jen Evangelista have ever eaten. Because it somehow seemed like it needed to be discussed.
And of course besides that and most importantly, Jen and AJ discuss influence - Whether you realize it or not, you can be a mentor to others, whether it's your own children or others in your daily life. Truth is, God has raised up people in every generation to stand for truth and righteousness and to shout wisdom. Whatever position you are in, and especially those who may be younger reading or listening to this podcast, use your influence and run hard, run passionately, put your all into advancing the kingdom of God and being a voice in this generation.
As we connect the Proverbs to the Chronicles and Kings, we also noted how the compilation of historical wisdom was used in order to try to reorient an entire nation back to God. Then, we wrapped up the episode by drawing some conclusions regarding what that means for us today.
