The Sisters in Crime Writers’ Podcast

The Sisters in Crime Writers' podcast features conversations with our members about the writing journey: their process, what they've learned, what they wish they'd know sooner. For 40 years we've supported our members with classes, workshops, webinars, and community. We're also an advocacy organization for all crime writers. No matter where a writer is on their journey, SinC is an organization where writers belong.

    Sara Paretsky Jan 10, 2022
    Show notes

Sara Paretsky transformed the mystery world in 1982 with the introduction of private eye V I Warshawski in Indemnity Only. She and V I —tough, credible, street-smart and feminine—challenged the stereotypes of women in fiction as victims or vamps. They made it possible for a new generation of crime writers and fighters to thrive, a generation she continues to support as one of the founders of Sisters in Crime. Paretsky has been awarded both the Cartier Diamond Dagger and MWA’s Grand Master. In 2012, she received the Harold Washington Literary Award, whose previous winners include Saul Bellow and Margaret Atwood. Today Paretsky’s books are published in 30 countries.

Kathleen Marple Kalb Dec 20, 2021
    Show notes

Kathleen Marple Kalb grew up in front of a microphone and a keyboard. Now a weekend morning anchor at 1010 WINS New York, she started as a teenage DJ in Brookville, Pennsylvania. She worked her way up through newsrooms in Pittsburgh, Vermont and Connecticut, developing her skills and a deep and abiding distaste for snow. While she wrote her first (thankfully unpublished) historical novel at age sixteen, fiction was firmly in the past until her son started kindergarten. After two years of querying, three failed projects and 200+ rejections, she's now the author of the Ella Shane historical mystery series for Kensington Books, and soon, as Nikki Knight, LIVE, LOCAL, AND DEAD, a Vermont Radio Mystery from Crooked Lane. Her story "Bad Apples" was an Honorable Mention in the 2021 Black Orchid Novella Award contest. She, her husband, and son live in a Connecticut house owned by their cat.
