Sorcerer's Stone film & video games. We read the first Harry Potter book, so naturally we had to see the movie! Play the video games! Buy the toys! Visit the theme park! (Not yet, but one day.) We examine the rogue's gallery of Sorcerer's Stone themed video games from 2001, then we discuss the film which is... fine? It's fine. It's completely fine. The director, however... he has some things to say, and so does Katie Couric in this time capsule episode. This week's theme music is a jazzy old version of Wild About Harry. Please rate us on iTunes if you're enjoying the show!

Show notes

Sorcerer's Stone chapters 16-17. One book down, six to go! And eight movies, and another series of movies, and some side books, and video games... okay, there's a lot left. Still, we finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and we have this extra long episode to prove it! Before we reminisce on the the final chapters and the book as a whole, though, we talk about Harry Potter: A History of Magic, a new documentary with a twist that shook us to our cores.

Episode 6: Toilet Basilisk Apr 09, 2018

Sorcerer's Stone Chapters 11-13. It's slime time! Liz and xeecee talk about weird toy commercials and lovable Youtube reviews before diving into some, you guessed it, politics. Albus Dumbledorf. As for the book itself, nobody is much of a Quidditch fan but there's plenty nice to say about The Mirror of Erised and what a touching chapter it is. Albus Dumbledorf. Even with an extra chapter, there's still time to learn everything about Professor McGonagall's weird backstory! Albus Dumbledorf. Albus Dumbledorf. Albus Dumbledorf.

Episode 4: Minecraft Steve Mar 26, 2018

Show notes

Sorcerer's Stone Chapters 9-10. This week Liz and Xeecee have practically nothing but good things to say about their reading, so to balance things out they discuss not one but TWO awful documentaries about J.K Rowling. (Harry Potter & Me and JK Rowling: A Year in the Life) Find out everything you never wanted to know about her stance on Wicca (she's not a fan) Minecraft (HUGE fan) and what her pal Stephen Fry has to say about "other fantasy" (it's for the feeble-minded) in this jam-packed episode!

Episode 3: The Sorting Extravaganza Mar 19, 2018

Show notes

Sorcerer's Stone Chapters 7-8. It's time for the Sorting Ceremony! But before that, Liz and Xeecee celebrate the release of the political prisoner ItsHarryPotter and get into the nitty-gritty discourse of the new Crimes of Grindlewald trailer, including the moral quandaries of whether or not to even see it.

Episode 2: International Witch's Day Mar 12, 2018

Show notes

Sorcerer's Stone Chapters 5 - 6. Liz & Xeecee pay respect to the powerful side characters of Harry Potter - like Bill's questionably aged girlfriend and the shapeshifter who dies off-screen - before diving into the extremely expository chapters left before Harry Potter reaches Hogwarts. Goblin discourse awaits!

Episode 1: Letting the Snake Out Mar 05, 2018

Show notes

Sorcerer's Stone Chapters 1 - 4. On the inaugural episode of The Shrieking Shack, Liz and Xeecee read the first four chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discuss legally questionable Halloween costumes, Dudley Dursley's gaming habits, and getting sent to the closet for letting the snake out.
