    EPISODE 83 -- JEFF BURTON PART 1 Mar 12, 2020

In this week's installment of our conversation with Jeff, he takes us back to his humble beginnings in the sport … and a time in his career where he had worked himself very near the precipice of utter exhaustion. In our second segment, hosts Steve Waid and Rick Houston leaf through the June 17, 1993 issue of Winston Cup Scene, which features coverage of Kyle Petty's win at Pocono … Ken Schrader's pole and second-place finish … and Jeff Burton's Busch Series victory over brother Ward at Myrtle Beach. Kyle, Kenny and Jeff … incredibly enough … have been our last three interview guests here on The Scene Vault Podcast!

Because between Kyle Petty AND Tony "Rambo" Liberati, we certainly had a lot to discuss. Kyle remembers the struggles of keeping up with the times at Petty Enterprises, driving for the Wood Brothers, being incredibly upset with a caution at Richmond … before finding out it had actually given him the first win of his career … and meeting team owner Felix Sabates for the first time. Then, host Rick Houston and Rambo break down the August 6, 1987 issue of Grand National Scene, which features a cover story on testing limits and a Photo Bio of a certain up-and-coming crew member.

Heir apparent to the sport's most famous family, it was his mother Lynda, not father Richard, who was the most competive. Finally, he discusses the expectations of being Richard Petty's son. In our segment, former Cale Yarborough Motorsports crew member joins host Rick Houston to remember the late John Andretti.
