    Korea. November, 1950. After their surrender at the Battle of Unsan, Father Emil and his companions are prisoners of the Chinese. Forced to march northwards through the freezing Korean mountains, many American soldiers have died from exposure. And those who remain begin to wonder if death might be better than what lies ahead of them: the prison camp of Pyoktong.

Serving with joy and abandonment during his military service, he embraced his role as the spiritual father of Pyoktong prison camp with the same virtues. In the face of awful conditions and inhumane treatment, Kapaun gave himself entirely to the service of his brothers, eventually dying as a consequence. His ultimate sacrifice teaches undying lessons of courage, selflessness, and joy.

    This series contains moments of extreme danger and intensity, including raised voices. Several battle scenes are portrayed, including severe injuries and deaths. Fr. Kapaun and his companions are captured and forced to march to a prison camp. They are subjected to ideological indoctrination, psychological pressure and difficult conditions in the prison camp. A character contracts dysentery. Fr. Kapaun is seriously injured by a falling rock. Fr. Kapaun undergoes delirium when an injury becomes infected. Fr. Kapaun’s actual death is not portrayed, but is imminent at the end of the series.

And Father Emil Kapaun is back in Asia and in uniform, aboard a transport ship heading from Japan to another warzone.

    Italy, 1375. Bloody war continues between the Anti-Papal league and the French Papal legates. Rather than seek peace, Pope Gregory escalates the conflict by excommunicating the entire city of Florence. Catherine is on her way to Avignon, accompanied by Lapa and Raimondo, to persuade Gregory to not only seek peace, but to return to Rome.

    Martin de Porres’s story teaches lessons of faith, justice, and mercy. Martin’s natural compassion leads him to caring especially for animals, from feeding a stray dog as a child to miraculously convincing an infestation of rats to leave the priory. Martin’s sacrificial spirit makes him willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his brothers. Martin’s life demonstrates how we are called to exercise true charity in a broken world.
