    Enhancing the Quality of Life for Farmers, Ranchers, and Agricultural Workers with Disabilities with Rachel Jarman Jul 23, 2021

    On this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast, you’ll meet Rachel Jarman. In 2017 Rachel and her husband started their own mixed operation, Bank Barn Meats, where they now direct market hand raised pork,chicken, lamb and beef.

    May of 2019 . As a Rural Rehabilitation Coordinator her job is to help farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers find equipment and technologies that make their work on their operation easier. That can range from upgrading steps or a seat on the tractor all the way to adding a lift to a tractor or truck so even a farmer with paralysis or loss of use of limbs can still access and operate equipment. Rachel says getting the opportunity to see these individuals get their independence back is the most rewarding job she could ever ask for.

She is currently the Seed Keeper and Farm Manager at Dream of Wild Health. Prior to her time DWH. Jessika has worked as the Agricultural Division Manager for her nation and has previously served as a garden mentor within her Nation’s organic community gardens. She is a U.S. Army Combat Veteran and completed a Veteran-to-Farmer training program at the Rodale Institute in Pennsylvania

    Beekeeping Made Simple with Laryssa Kwoczak Jun 18, 2021

    On this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast you’ll meet Laryssa Kwoczak. Laryssa began keeping bees as a hobby in Philadelphia 10 years ago. She caught "bee fever" almost immediately and just a few years later moved across the country to take a job at an apiary in Hawaii. For the next 5 years, she worked for a commercial apiary caring for bees and educating visitors at their beekeeping museum. She then started her own bee farm, Bee Happy, where she sold comb honey to chefs and resorts in Hawaii.

    Accidentally an Alpaca and Cut Flower Farm with Elaine Vandiver Jun 11, 2021

    On today’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast, you’ll meet meet Elaine Vandiver. In her own words, Elaine became a farmer by happenstance. After moving out to a 10-acre parcel of land with her husband near Walla Wall, Washington in 2013 looking for a fresh start Elaine accidentally turned their old homestead’ with 2 llama into an alpaca and cut flower farmer. She left her stable government job in 2019 to farm full time and offers both a collection of commercially machine-knit garments from the fiber of her animals and grows and sells specialty cut flowers at the local farmer’s market and through her CSA.
