Season 7, Episode 4. Marco Molina, founder of Molina & Associates, in Geneva, Switzerland. Marco officially becomes my first guest to come back for a second conversation, since a lot has changed since the last time we spoke! In our conversation, we will start where we left off, discussing the informal process Marco facilitated on World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement reform, how he approached it, and the lessons he learned. We also discuss his transition from a long-serving government official to the private sector, where he has been providing his expertise to a wide range of clients. You will not want to miss some of the key insights he has gained from this process and his views on what may come next. It is always a pleasure to talk to Marco; this conversation was no exception! Ambassador Ronald Saborio Mar 28, 2025
    Show notes

Season 7, Episode 3. Amb. Ronald Saborío, Mission of Costa Rica to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. I had an insightful conversation with Ambassador Saborío, who has had a long and successful career in trade diplomacy, becoming a reference point in everything to do with the WTO. We dived into a wide range of topics, including the future of international trade and diplomacy. I met him at the beginning of my career in trade when I attended my first meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body Special Session a few years back. The discussions during those sessions were very technical and detailed, and they have informed the way I view discussions and negotiations at the WTO ever since. Ambassador Saborío also discussed his career, the good, the bad, and the ugly, but overall, he had a very optimistic view of what lay ahead. It was a pleasure talking to him, and I just wished I had recorded the conversation after the episode because he shared some great stories about what has happened in the WTO and how we got to where we are today. Some of these stories made it into the episode, so you are lucky. This is me talking to Ambassador Saborío. -- The Rodolfo Rivas Project is available on all major platforms or wherever you get your podcasts. Season 7, Episode 2. Stephen Fevrier, Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Stephen's career has been deeply intertwined with trade and development, particularly revolving around the WTO. His extensive experience means that if it happened at the WTO, he likely witnessed it firsthand! Hailing from Saint Lucia, a Caribbean gem, Stephen is part of a cadre of exceptional trade professionals from the island. He is the second of these professionals to grace my podcast, and he has a compelling theory on why Saint Lucians excel in the field. Stephen has worked for the Commonwealth and the Organization of the Caribbean States, serving as Ambassador to the United Nations before taking his current role at the WTO. Stephen is very knowledgeable and has some great stories. We tried to cover many topics, but there was still much more to discuss. In any case, what we manage to cover will have to do for now. Take a listen. This is me talking to Stephen. -- The Rodolfo Rivas Project is available on all major platforms or wherever you get your podcasts. Season 7, Episode 1. Tyesha Turner, J.P., Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission of Jamaica to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland. To kick off the seventh season of this podcast, I can’t think of a better guest than the impressive and delightful Tyesha. She is my neighbor during long meetings at the WTO, and I am happy to have her as a guest. She had some great stories to tell about her life and career and some of the lessons she had learned along the way, bringing a unique diplomatic perspective to our conversation. She even asked me a couple of questions! I’ve had some great guests, and I have a couple of favorite episodes, but this one will surely be among my favorite. I have some exciting plans for our seventh season, and although it has taken a bit longer than usual to get off the ground, I assure you, it will be worth the wait! I am sure you will enjoy this conversation. So, without further ado, let's dive into this fascinating conversation with Tyesha. My guest is another Colombian, the nationality most represented in the show, hence the joke! This is season six's last episode, and I had to close the season with a great guest! Gustavo is a friend and colleague whose story will inspire you. While I count Gustavo as a close friend, our conversation revealed new aspects of his life that I found fascinating, and I'm excited for you to listen in. I was thrilled to host and engage in a profound and insightful conversation with him. We delved into his upbringing in Colombia and his unwavering commitment to his goals despite the challenges. Gustavo's journey is a powerful testament to resilience and the relentless pursuit of excellence and knowledge. When I’ve invited him to guest lecture in my classes, I always learned a lot from his patience and knowledge. Now, I know more all this comes from his nature and his nurturing. Season 6, Episode 12. Andres Veiel, Filmmaker. Andres is a successful filmmaker with a long career stretching back to the early 90’s. I met with him after the screening of his latest film at the Zurich Film Festival, the documentary “Riefenstahl”, which unearths new information on the controversial filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. During our conversation, we talked about how he got into films and learned from Krzysztof Kieslowski, and we also talked about memory and the stories we tell ourselves. He discussed the development of his latest film and some of the main challenges in telling this story. It was a great conversation, and the film may be the definite story of how Riefenstahl's complicated artistic legacy will be viewed. I am confident you will enjoy this conversation and the film! Ambassador Nadia B. Theodore Sep 29, 2024
    Show notes

Season 6, Episode 10. Ambassador Nadia B. Theodore. Mission of Canada to the WTO. Ambassador Nadia Theodore has been in Geneva for around two years, but she has already made her mark. She is involved in several initiatives, and one of her goals is making the WTO more inclusive and telling the story of the MTS to everyone. And I can say she has really succeeded in that. We had an insightful and fun conversation, covering her multicultural upbringing, her foray into law, how she experienced the WTO during her first post in Geneva, and how things have changed with her return as Ambassador. Ambassador Theodore was delightful and graceful, but if you have heard her before you already knew that. I also found out I have a couple of similarities with her. I was thrilled to host her and get to know her better. You will not want to miss this conversation! Season 6, Episode 9. Ambassador James Baxter. Mission of Australia to the WTO. Ambassador James Baxter, is a friend of International Trade and Multilateralism who has made his career around the WTO. He is a consummate diplomat who got into Trade and never left. He was posted in Geneva as the Deputy Permanent Representative for the Mission of Australia to the WTO back in 2012, and although he didn’t initially intend to return, he is back as Ambassador with the intention and goal to deliver on many of the pending items we are currently working on at the WTO. Ambassador Baxter provided great insights into the mind of a diplomat, and we had a great conversation. He also provided some great replies to my questionnaire, so listen until the end. I am certain you will enjoy this conversation. Subscribe! -- The Rodolfo Rivas Project is available on all major platforms or wherever you get your podcasts. Season 6, Episode 8. Jennifer Brant. Founder and Principal at Innovations Insights. Jennifer heads a boutique consulting firm specializing in strategic communications and government affairs. If you work in International Geneva, you may encounter Jennifer. I have been following her career due to its intersection with many of the same topics we work on, and I met her a couple of years ago. Due to her experience covering law firms, policy, and the private sector, I wanted to hear more about her journey, and my conversation with her did not disappoint. Jennifer's career has taken her across the globe, from Sidley Austin LLP in Geneva to Oxfam in Washington, D.C., and Geneva, and Gianni Origoni & Partners in Milan. Her experiences are not just stories but a treasure trove of valuable insights that will captivate and inspire you. In this episode, we delve into her experiences in global policy research and advocacy, her work on World Trade Organization dispute settlement and policy, and the lessons she learned at UCLA, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and the Geneva Graduate Institute. Engaging in a conversation with Jennifer was an absolute joy, and I'm confident you'll be equally captivated with this episode.
