Jesus & The Powers: Interview With Dr. Michael Bird Jul 09, 2024

Show notes

We welcome back Dr. Michael Bird to discuss his latest book co-authored with N.T. Wright, "Jesus and the Powers: Christian Political Witness in an Age of Totalitarian Terror and Dysfunctional Democracies."
In their book, Wright and Bird explore the critical question of how Christians should engage with politics. Should we withdraw to maintain our prophetic voice, or should we actively participate to influence political systems? They call on Christians to discern their witness in today's fractured political environment, amidst the rise of autocracies, fear, and fragmentation.
Combining political theology, biblical insights, and church history, "Jesus and the Powers" argues for a kingdom-oriented approach to politics. Wright and Bird emphasize confronting empire in all its forms and promoting democratic societies while opposing autocracy and nationalism. They delve into the relevance of this approach to current events, including the Russian-Ukraine conflict, China-Taiwan tensions, and political turmoil in the USA, UK, and Australia.
Tune in to learn how Christians can navigate and engage with politics in a way that aligns with Jesus's kingdom and contributes to the common good.
Michael F. Bird is a leading academic on New Testament studies and Christian Theology. He is Lecturer in Theology at Ridley College in Melbourne, Australia. @earlychristianhistorywithm8684

How Paul's View of the End Times Shapes Us Today: Interview With Dr. Constantine R. Campbell Jul 02, 2024

Show notes

Is the Apostle Paul a "covenant" or an "apocalyptic" theologian? We sit down with Dr. Constantine Campbell to discuss Pauline eschatology in Campbell's latest book "Paul and the Hope of Glory."
We'll explore the significance of eschatology (end times) in Pauline theology. Campbell asserts that while union with Christ serves as the webbing that connects the Apostle Paul's thought, eschatology shapes the contours of his teaching on justification, resurrection, ethics, and more. Campbell will share how Paul thought about the end times, unpacking phrases like "the last day," "inheritance," and "hope," and showing us how they fit into the bigger picture of what Paul believed.
Why does Paul's perspective on the future matter for us today? Campbell will discuss how Pauline theology shapes our beliefs about salvation, resurrection, and how we live our lives right now. Tune in and equip yourself with a deeper understanding of Paul's eschatological vision and its implications for our hope of glory.

We’ll discuss the importance of adhering to Ephesians 5:11: "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them," and how this scripture should guide our response to misconduct within the church. Julie will share insights on the dangers of honor culture in churches and why it’s crucial to have whistleblower policies and procedures in place to break this cycle.

Show notes

Get ready for an intense and eye-opening episode of The Remnant Radio. We're exploring the chilling topics of haunted houses, desecrated spaces, and cursed regions.
We'll uncover the dark realities of Satanic practices and the spiritual impact they can have on places, geography, and entire regions. The Bible has a lot to say about defiled land and buildings. Deuteronomy 18:9-12 warns against detestable practices that can defile the land, and Ephesians 6:12 speaks about our struggle against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We'll examine these scriptures and more to understand if and how physical locations can be tainted by immoral or Satanic activities.
And here's the big question: Can a physical location be redeemed? We'll discuss the power of prayer, spiritual cleansing, and whether desecrated spaces can be redeemed.
