The Role of Logic & Reason in Theology: Interview with Dr. Jordan Cooper Nov 26, 2024

Show notes

Ever wondered how the ideas of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation developed into the systematic theology we know today? Join us as we welcome Dr. Jordan Cooper to discuss his new book “Prolegomena: A Defense of the Scholastic Method.” Dr. Cooper challenges a common belief that there’s a big gap between what the early reformers taught and how later scholars organized these teachings.
We’ll explore: • How Luther’s ideas connect with later Protestant thinking • Why organized, systematic theology matters for modern Christians • How early Protestant scholars built on Reformation foundations • What this means for the church today • Common myths about Protestant scholarly traditions
Some say there’s a conflict between the heart of the Reformation and the careful, organized way later Protestants studied theology. Dr. Cooper shows us why this isn’t true and how both approaches work together to give us a fuller understanding of our faith. Whether you’re new to church history or a long-time student of theology, this conversation will help you see how careful theological thinking strengthens our understanding of God’s truth. Join us as we bridge the gap between historical Protestant thought and modern-day faith.

Sozo and Scripture: Is Bethel’s Inner Healing Ministry Truly Biblical? Nov 14, 2024

Show notes

We tackle a pressing question surrounding Sozo, the inner healing and deliverance ministry developed at Bethel Church: Is it biblical? Drawing from core teachings of Sozo—such as identifying lies, closing “doors” to negative influences, and cultivating a deeper relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—we explore whether these practices align with the Bible’s approach to healing and spiritual growth. Is Sozo a fresh method of “renewing the mind” as the Apostle Paul describes, or does it rely on extra-biblical concepts? We’ll examine the key Sozo techniques like the “Father Ladder” and “Four Doors,” assessing them alongside scriptural principles of confession, repentance, and forgiveness.
Join us for an in-depth conversation as we ask, "Is Sozo a biblically sound path to freedom, or does it stray from the teachings of Scripture?" Whether you’re a skeptic or a supporter, this episode will benefit you as we dig deep into the scriptural basis of Sozo’s approach to healing and sanctification.

Are Emotions Misleading Your Faith? The Dangers of Emotionalism in Christianity Nov 07, 2024

Show notes

In a culture that often equates emotional intensity with spiritual depth, how can we discern genuine faith and worship from mere emotional hype? This episode dives into the critical difference between emotions—the natural, God-given responses to life—and emotionalism, a worldview that places feelings above truth, sometimes to the detriment of our spiritual lives. We’ll discuss why emotions alone can’t be the foundation for spiritual truth, looking at common misconceptions like confusing a pastor’s passion with anointing or mistaking emotional peace as confirmation of answered prayer.
Drawing insights from theological giants like Jonathan Edwards and exploring biblical counsel on sobriety and self-control, we’ll explore why emotions must be balanced by a sound mind and grounded in Scripture. We also touch on how music shapes our beliefs and how a focus on emotional intensity in worship can impact our understanding of God.
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation that aims to reclaim a balanced view of emotions in faith and worship, encouraging you to embrace both mind and heart in your walk with God.

The REAL History of Nicaea You Never Knew Nov 05, 2024

Show notes

The REAL History of Nicaea You Never Knew.
In an era of doctrinal confusion and church scandals, many believers are questioning the very foundation of Christian faith. Can the Nicene Creed offer clarity and stability?
In this episode, we dive deep into the history and significance of the Nicene Creed, established at the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D., which has served as a cornerstone of Christian belief for centuries. We’ll unpack its core affirmations about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, exploring how it provides a resilient framework for faith amid modern challenges.
But why was the Council of Nicaea so pivotal? Is there biblical support for such councils, or do they risk adding human error to Scripture’s sufficiency? Together, we’ll examine biblical precedents, such as the early church gatherings in Acts 11 and 15, and look at how councils like Nicaea sought to safeguard Christian doctrine and address critical issues facing the church.
From Constantine’s political influence to Arius's divisive teachings, we’ll trace how the debates and decisions of the Nicene bishops shaped the bedrock of Christian orthodoxy. Join us as we explore the timeless relevance of the Nicene Creed, discovering how it can strengthen and steady us through personal and collective crises of faith.

Show notes

What’s the deal with chimeras in the Bible? Are they just myths, demon descriptions, or something way stranger? In this episode, we'll dig into the ancient texts, including the Septuagint, to track down satyrs, sirens, dragons, and yes, even the infamous Leviathan. Could these creatures be the result of pre-flood genetic experiments? Were they spawned from divine-human mingling gone wrong? Or are they clever political metaphors from the prophets? We’ll throw out theories, explore ancient Jewish thoughts, and see if these “chimeras” were real beasts or symbolic warnings.
