The Benefits of Nostalgia

Captain Influence is much more nostalgic than I am (TRB). HOWEVER, I still do enjoy some good nostalgia. I'm of the opinion that nostalgia can be very good for each of us. But I also believe it can be detrimental.

Captain Influence did some research on the benefits of nostalgia, which he shares with us in the episode.

We discuss how nostalgia can be good and what that looks like in a healthy balance for each of us as we navigate this crazy thing called life!

Seeing a financial advisor.

Figuring out how to best manage your money, investments, future.

All that good stuff.

But something occurred to me: What does "managing your assets" really mean? What IS an asset?

I see money as an asset, sure. But it's also just a tool. It's a PIECE OF PAPER used to exchange for something else.

That's it!

I also see time, health, friendships, family, things you own, interests and hobbies, talents, etc. etc. etc. as assets!

So if you are to manage your assets, wouldn't it make sense to manage ALL of those things with balance?

This is a SERIOUS issue that most of us aren't aware of.

Or maybe we ARE aware of it, but we choose to ignore it for one reason or another.

OR maybe we DO know about it and we also help those with it.

OR maybe we have concealed depression.

Regardless, this is an issue that plagues many people. They're likely around us and we likely know someone with concealed depression.

Which Element Would You Control?

I've had this question in my mind for a while now. I always thought it'd be SO cool to be able to control an element. The question is... which one? What about all of them?

I read a trilogy of books, a while ago, called The Magi Trilogy by Kevin M. Turner. They are really fun, young adult, books that explore the idea of controlling elements. It has a Harry Potter feel. This furthered my interest in controlling the elements and, also, what they represent. Or, how our personalities "relate" or "resonate" with specific elements.

Lift Each Other Up

This conversation is sparked by having watched the new trailer for the upcoming Batwoman tv show, which will be on CW in the Fall. The trailer bugged me (and others). While I am 100% for strong female leads, empowering women, and seeing women treated equally and valued equally, I'm not a fan of men being bashed and pushed down in the process. This trailer shows a little of that. Plus, it also shows a little disrespect towards Batman, which I'm not ok with. Batwoman, in the comics, LIFTED Batman up. He also lifted Batwoman up.

I get it. Women, minorities, and others who I call "disadvantaged" have not been treated and valued equally. There are those who have pushed people in those groups down. That's flat out bullying. But trying to get on top by pushing down the person/group that pushed you down doesn't fix the problem. It just creates reverse-bullying. Not ok.

I did say, in the show, that I'm tired of feminism. After discussing that further, I came to realize that I'm NOT tired of feminism. I'm tired of people who abuse feminism. Or anything for that matter. Religion, politics, health, you name it.

My hope and goal is ALWAYS to lift each other up. THAT... is how we win. And we ALL win that way.

So, instead of pushing others down to get ahead, why not lift each other up? Value each other equally!

This is one of the core missions of The Real Brian Show. We lift each other up here!

You know, we always use superhero names around here on The Real Brian Show. It’s something Podcast Overlord and I started back on the Arrow Squad podcast years ago and it’s something I’ve brought over to TRBS. The reason I love for all of us to have superhero names is twofold. 1 is that “radio/superhero” names are just cool! Let’s be honest. And 2, I hope our superhero names reflect the best version of ourselves. Ideally they’re REAL… but they’re also something we continue to strive for. So one thing we are looking forward to today is sharing with you FAILED SUPERHERO NAMES… or I guess we could turn it positive and say these names are “missed opportunities”... hehe… plus, I have a really cool story to share with you that I hope will help us all to unleash our superheroes. We’ll talk about what we’re nerding out on this week, and we have some typical pop culture stuff to talk about as well!!!
