In Zig Ziglar's best-selling book See You at the Top. He illustrates the walk towards our goals and dreams, and the factors that get us where we want to go.

You are standing at the foot of stairs and on the floor beneath your feet are the words: Love, Loyalty, Honesty, Trust, Character, Integrity...

The elevator is 'out of order, you'll just have to take the stairs

As you walk up the stairs step by step, you pass: Self-Image, Relationships, Goals, Attitude, Work, Desire...

On the wall, above the hand-railing on the side is: Free Enterprise, Courage, Perseverance...
And when you make it to the top, you can sit down at a banquet table set for: Growth, Security, Peace, Happiness, Friends, Leisure, Freedom, Opportunity, Health and Wealth.

That is the vision for so many people regardless of the external factors churning our world

It's the kind of life you aspire to and would most like to achieve...

In this second episode of a two part series, Case discusses ideas for what we can expect from the New Normal in the global marketplace, technology, entertainment, and your digital life. For aspiring entrepreneurs, understanding these developments will be critical for deciding on business ideas, and planning for the future.

But the table at the top is literally constructed from the foundational elements, the implication being of course that without them, you simply won't make it up the stairs.

So listen to this episode to understand how do you make it to the table in the New Normal?

RE 98: We Create the New Normal Part 1 Nov 05, 2020

We keep hearing about WHEN we get the New Normal, we will...

But who decides on the WHEN? Is the New Normal going to be sent to us? Is it going to come down from the mountaintop? Where did the old Normal come from?
Abraham Lincoln once said, "the best way to predict your future is to create it." So instead of waiting for the New Normal to be handed to us, maybe we should just create it.

In this first of a two part series, Case discusses ideas for what we can expect from the New Normal in home, work, relationships and education. For aspiring entrepreneurs, understanding these developments will be critical for deciding on business ideas, and planning for the future.

But what does that look like? The current environment has already changed education, work and socializing over night...it changed relationships, responsibility and opportunity...college is in question, so is office life, entertainment, weddings, funerals...

And through it all online business is soaring, so is online education...and just about online everything else.

So if we are going to create the New Normal, how do we prioritize, what do we do, and what do we want?

RE 97: The Efficient Podcast Listener Oct 29, 2020

What is the best way to take advantage of the scope and range of podcasts available to the average listener?
Life in the Internet Age is really two lives. One is online where you now engage with family, friends, colleagues, and strangers through screens providing a heightened literal face-to-face communication confrontation.

You check your phone for texts, images, emojis and videos conveying accompanying messages. Sliding over to your social feeds, you post a few images about your delicious meal, new shoes, or child's messy face, and then stare jealously at your friends' more delicious meal, hipper shoes and cuter child.

With heightened reluctance you switch off the screen to tend to your other life...the real one. Your physical life is the one of private discussion, gentle cries, confusion, fear and misunderstanding.

And never more so has this stood out than now when you face a world where you have to learn to operate in crisis and disruption.

Sadly you know no one who has ever faced this type of turmoil. Neither does anyone you know. The knowledge circle that used to come from experiences of extended family, teachers or community leaders is closed.

Your chance to extract information has disappeared, and perhaps your opportunity to be successful, and have the comfortable life you expect, has gone with them.

Where do you turn? For the information, knowledge, entertainment and news...to podcasts.
In the interviews and information of podcasts lies a layer of wisdom that would otherwise be completely inaccessible.

In this episode, Case reviews how you can get the most out of listening to podcasts by:

    • Finding Relevant Podcasts
    • Discovering the Value of Virtual Mentors
    • Learning How to Listen to the Interview for Advice
    • Using the Knowledge to Build your Life Going Forward

In this 6-part series, Case explains the process, issues, challenges, and joys in researching, finding and contacting podcasts for interviewing, and listening. This episode is Part Six in the Podcast Discoveries Series.

Interested in being a guest on a podcast, but not sure how to manage all the variables in the process? Listen to this episode...
In just a few short years, podcasting has arisen as the one online activity everyone must do. Not only comedians, newscasters and historians, but also corporate executives, specialized professionals, and the kid next door.

Unlike blogging which required at a minimum the ability to write, podcasting is the audio medium, a stage that permits and embraces the same chatter, banter and jokes that take place between ordinary people on average days.

In fact, the gentle nature of conversation has become the hallmark of podcasting. The platform's success lies in its intimate connection with listener's ears, and its soothing waves playing in the background of walks, workouts, and commutes everywhere.

For those who wish to use podcast appearances to bolster their careers, products, services, businesses and authority, the opportunity comes with a challenge.

With an estimated one million podcasts available for download all over the world, how do you find a podcast where you can present yourself as someone who is valuable and useful to interview?

In the podcast, Case goes over tips for potential podcast guests:

    • Follow-up Immediately on Communications
    • Manage Requests for Payments, Reviews or other contentious practices on Your Terms
    • Check Technical Requirements
    • Read any Pre-Interview Document the Host Sends You
    • Know Your Subject
    • Be Clear About Uncomfortable Subjects
    • Get Names Right
    • Speak to their Audience
    • Confirm Promotional Expectations
    • Embrace the New Relationships

In this 6-part series, Case explains the process, issues, challenges, and joys in researching, finding and contacting podcasts for interviewing, and listening. This episode is Part Five in the Podcast Discoveries Series.

So this episode is being offered only as a list of potential ideas for podcast hosts who want to leave out a welcome mat for potential relevant guests.

RE 94: For Potential Podcast Guests: Navigating Challenges and Warnings Oct 08, 2020

Podcasts are the next big thing that's already here. Many people have one, so do companies, organizations, and your next door neighbor. Everyone is interested in what this rising medium means for their work, industry, knowledge, and entertainment, and everyone wants to know where it's all going.

The numbers are impressive. One million podcasts...and growing! But what does that really mean?

In researching over a thousand podcasts to find relevant shows to interview on, Case noted many 'behind the scenes' issues that come up in this young and rapidly-growing industry.

There are two types of podcasters: the big names backed by big money (and big publicity)...and everyone else.

This series is for everyone else.

What are some of the concepts, challenges, and pitfalls you have to be ready for as you navigate one million podcasts to find the ones that are right for you?
In this 6-part series, Case explains the process, issues, challenges, and joys in researching, finding and contacting podcasts for interviewing, and listening.

In this episode, Case describes mix of challenges that come up in the research in the directories and search engines, and in communicating with podcasters.

    These issues include:

    • The Directories
    • The Land of the Living Dead
    • The Definitions of Descriptions, Categories and Keywords
    • Hidden Contact Information
    • Overlapping Show Names
    • Inefficient Search Options

This episode is Part Three in the Podcast Discoveries Series.

RE 93: How to Research, Find and Contact Podcasts for an Interview Oct 01, 2020

On the surface, the standard advice is correct. If you want to interview on a podcast, you must send a compelling pitch to the podcast host, and trust your message resonates with their goals, fits in their schedule, and appears appealing to their audience.

Sounds great...except, how do you find the hosts and shows that you can pitch to in the first place?

There are now more than one million podcasts. That number should make it possible to find hundreds, if not thousands, of podcasters in your genre, talking to people about your topic, and looking for more.

Unfortunately that expectation comes up against a harsh reality. How does it really all work?
In this 6-part series, Case explains the process, issues, challenges, and joys in researching, finding and contacting podcasts for interviewing, and listening.

In this episode, Case describes the D-I-Y method for landing a guest interview on a podcast, which takes time and patience to research and review relevant shows before you sending an e-mail.
    In summary, you:

    1. Have Something to Say
    2. Create Your Customizable Pitch
    3. Select Your Categories and Keywords
    4. Establish Your Discussion Parameters
    5. Search Podcast Names
    6. Find Relevant Podcasts
    7. Contact the Host
    8. Customize your Pitch
    9. Send Your Pitch
    10. Follow-up Immediately
This episode is Part Two in the Podcast Discoveries Series.

RE 85: How to Be An Entrepreneur Aug 06, 2020

In this episode, Case Lane discusses three definitions for entrepreneurial behavior - literal, functional and practical.
Entrepreneurs come from all backgrounds, have every type of education, varied work experiences, and a mix of experiences. Yet aspiring entrepreneurs often ask the question about: How to Be An Entrepreneur - as if there is one all encompassing approach.
The literal approach is the pop culture image created by today's most famous billionaires - who all have different personalities and public personas.
The functional approach is the entrepreneurial definition to seek opportunity, allocate resources and deliver value. A definition that still leaves gaps for many who ask: how.
The practical approach is to do the work. If any definition unites entrepreneurs, it is the knowledge that they work consistently and relentlessly on their ideas until one (or several) become major successes.
Aspiring entrepreneurs can choose any definition to model, and still end up as an entrepreneur because every possible path is open to those who are ready and willing to do the work.

RE 82: How to Leave Corporate Behind When Starting Your Own Business Jul 16, 2020

When corporate professionals make the transition to full-time entrepreneurship, there is often a hovering desire for all this is lost. Beyond wages and a place to go every day, aspiring entrepreneurs have daily reminders of things that have been 'given up.'
In this episode, Case Lane discusses how to replace corporate perks and comforts to make the transition to entrepreneurship easier. Begin by focusing on the key goal, to generate new income streams, but provide yourself with the kind of comfort and care that you would receive at the office.
You have to recast yourself as an entrepreneur, and slowly replace the trappings of corporate life with your solopreneur alternatives:

    • Salary and other financial benefits come from continuously focusing on the work required to replace the money as soon as possible
    • Your comfortable workspace can be established wherever you decide to work
    • You can be happy to be rid of idle office time, but desperate to reconnect with people - do that by joining group masterminds or finding an accountability partner

You get corporate out of your head by creating a new focus - the value you want to deliver - the product or service that your soon-to-be-discovered community wants or needs.

RE 79: How to Go Online in Exactly the Role Where You Are Most Comfortable (3 of 4) Jun 25, 2020

For aspiring entrepreneurs who are looking at the online entrepreneurship landscape as a noisy, annoying, boastful drain - you do have an opportunity to create an online business. The value of your online business is in the unique perspective you can bring to any product or service offering.
You can approach a product or service with a blog, store, podcast or video channel that meets the needs of those who do not see their personality or interests reflected online. While modeling successful people is a tried-and-try method for achieving success, trying to be someone you are not is a likely tilt towards failure.
Being your authentic self yields more rewards. Not only are you the only person who can see a problem to solve from your perspective, but also there are likely to be others who see it the same way, and that is the community you are looking to find.
This episode is the third of 4 in a series about taking your - education, experience, knowledge, expertise, interests, skills - online to create a business you can use to achieve lifestyle freedom.

RE 78: How to Declare Your Online Expertise to Be Exactly What You Say It Is (2 of 4) Jun 18, 2020

In basketball, defining the championship is clear, you either win or lose based on the number of points scored. In entrepreneurship, success is clear too. You win or lose in the global marketplace based on whether or not people want or need your product or service. And wanting or needing includes whether you have distributed and marketed the product or service in a way that people can find it.
Aspiring entrepreneurs who want to start a business in a field where they apparently have no experience can feel intimidated by the idea. Unlike a high school basketball champion who knows each next level to pursue on the road to a professional career, an online entrepreneur must experiment and test the waters. While this approach may be a grind, the opportunity for success only comes if the market knows the product or service is available.
An aspiring entrepreneur must understand that there is a path - not clearly defined - but available to choose as long as you do the work required to succeed, you declare your expertise the minute you start moving forward.
This episode is the second of 4 in a series about taking your - education, experience, knowledge, expertise, interests, skills - online to create a business you can use to achieve lifestyle freedom.

RE 77: Prepare to Be an Online Entrepreneur Without Compromising Yourself (1 of 4) Jun 11, 2020

Many aspiring entrepreneurs are looking at the online world with a mix of envy and dread. So many people appear to be making money doing what that they want with their lives, but a few too many of the successful also seem to be loud, silly and annoying. How can you be online without dealing with all the rah-rah noise, techno-babble, and conflicting how-to advice you hear and see?
This episode begins to answer that question by first looking at the big picture. Digital is here to stay, and everyone must find a way to make the Internet work in their favor.
Aspiring online entrepreneurs can approach the business on their own terms by focusing on the content you can deliver through your - education, knowledge, expertise, experience, skills and interests - and not by trying to imitate those you think are doing it 'right.'
Have as your foundation these core concepts:

    1. The Internet is our lifeline, online entrepreneurs are already participating in the future world of work
    2. While learning to run a business online, you can accelerate your professional development and build your skills
    3. Focus on your interests, choose the online platform where you are comfortable, and use the tools that best suit your vision

This is the first of four episodes about being yourself, defining your own value, sticking to your uniqueness, and making those facts the business you build for a community that is looking for you.

RE 75: What is an Aspiring Entrepreneur? May 28, 2020

The term 'aspiring entrepreneur' seems to be used to refer to anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur. But the origins of the two words would imply a different meaning. Is the aspiring entrepreneur forever aspiring, fulfilling the 'aspirational' part of the term without any action? Or is the aspiring entrepreneur who uses both terms implying motivation, perseverance and ambition by insisting on the use of the words together? And what do you do if you're the former?
If you believe you do too much aspiring:

    1. Work on researching your business idea and your potential community
    2. Talk to those who have gone before you, and if you do not know successful people watch the videos, read the books and listen to the podcasts of those you would like to know
    3. Define where you can add value to a specific niche - by being the niche within the niche
    4. Take action. Implement the information you have learned.

The aspiring and entrepreneur work best together when you take your vision past aspiration and on to implementation.

RE 73: Avoiding the Pitfalls of Following a 'Model' Entrepreneurial Example May 14, 2020

When aspiring entrepreneurs hear or read about successful entrepreneurial journeys, they may be tempted to consider the success an example to be followed. But not offered entrepreneurial paths can be offered as a repeatable approach instead the rising entrepreneur must adapt to the reality of their own situation.
Case discusses the common mistakes aspiring entrepreneurs make when attempting to follow someone else's path. And offers three tips for avoiding the pitfalls of this approach.
When attempting to follow a model path:

    1. Know the whole story (or as much as you can find)
    2. Identify the gaps
    3. Build, follow and respond to your own audience

RE 70: What the World Bank says about Entrepreneurship and Why You Should Care Apr 23, 2020

Aspiring entrepreneurs who have faced pushback and negativity about their plans, may take comfort in knowing their work is supported by a global initiative to encourage more entrepreneurs. In this episode, Case explains how despite on-the-ground pushback against entrepreneurial dreams, global multi-lateral organizations, funded by taxpayers, support entrepreneurship as part of global economic development. Research, analysis and money are used to defend and promote entrepreneurship as an alternative to wage labor.

This episode reviews the best practice use for the tools including when a landing page works better than a website, and when to start with an email service provider.

RE 68: How to Research Your Business Idea Apr 09, 2020

Any idea for filling a gap in the marketplace may be an opportunity for a business. But aspiring entrepreneurs should implement additional research approaches beyond completing an online search.
    Including:

    • Consider the functional use of similar products or services. Observe how the marketplace is really using the product or service. Especially look at the difference (if any) between how the product is presented in advertising, and how people really use it.
    • Speak to customers of similar products and services. Operate in the real world where your business will live.
    • Save the details for later. Set a deadline. Finish the initial research as soon as you have enough to move forward with your action plan.
