    Ep 176: Chubby Sticks & Hairy’s? May 16, 2023
    Show notes

Get ready for a laughter-filled episode as Jess rants about her beloved makeup from Clinique, the infamous Chubby Stick. But here's the catch—the name itself is questionable, and the color she has is called "Chunkiest Chili." Grosssssss! Hold onto your seats because it gets even weirder! Mini versions of the Chubby Stick are adorably dubbed "Chubettes." What!? We can't help but wonder who came up with that! But let's not forget the fun part! Why are they body types??? And for an intense look, there's the Chubby Stick Intense with Curviest Caramel, Broadest Berry, Roomiest Rose.Meanwhile, listener Dana shares a rant from Krista, who sent screenshots of our opening song. Apparently, someone remarked, "That's a classy name for a hairy???" The drama unfolds!

Jess has a bone to pick with fashion designers who insist on putting buttons halfway up the arm on sleeves. The ladies talk about the fact that almost all plus size clothing seems to one option each season and it’s not the ones we want. Moving on to Dana's rant, she doesn’t even remember writing it in!!!! She's got a major beef with all these app updates that seem to come out of nowhere. Just when you get comfortable with the layout of your favorite app, bam! Supportive Managers.

I know that I’m probably one of the few people that actually has a manager that I adore and appreciate. I’ve worked at this same company for almost 8 years. I’ve been through probably 8-12 different managers during my time through multiple departments. When I got into engineering, I had a manager that I was fine with but he never really understood my job because technically my job wasn’t well defined yet. About 6 months into my position I had to change managers again...

So big thanks to all the great, supportive, understanding managers out there. Keep communicating with your team and treat them like adults that you respect. Because you should anyway!

And if that's not scary enough, we also tackle the trauma of the "Get In Shape Girl" exercise kit from our childhoods. Jess Rave - Museum of Tolerance - Simon Weisenthal Center

    https://www.museumoftolerance.com/

Simon Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Nazi death camps, dedicated his life to documenting the crimes of the Holocaust and to hunting down the perpetrators still at large. "When history looks back," Wiesenthal explained, "I want people to know the Nazis weren’t able to kill millions of people and get away with it." His work stands as a reminder and a warning for future generations.

Very few of the prisoners survived the westward trek through Plaszow, Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald, which ended at Mauthausen in upper Austria. Weighing less than 100 pounds and lying helplessly in a barracks where the stench was so strong that even hardboiled SS guards would not enter, Wiesenthal was barely alive when Mauthausen was liberated by the 11th Armored Division of the Third U.S. Army on May 5, 1945.

As soon as his health was sufficiently restored, Wiesenthal began gathering and preparing evidence on Nazi atrocities for the War Crimes Section of the United States Army. After the war, he also worked for the Army's Office of Strategic Services and Counter-Intelligence Corps and headed the Jewish Central Committee of the United States Zone of Austria, a relief and welfare organization. Late in 1945, he and his wife, each of whom had believed the other to be dead, were reunited, and in 1946, their daughter Pauline was born.

Take a breathtaking journey through dramatic events in 20th century history. Learn what leads people to hate, and how ordinary people have changed the world one extraordinary action at a time.

Today, the public has come to view the MOT not only as a symbol of society’s quest to live peacefully together, but also as an important resource on how to achieve that goal.

    https://www.pawswithacause.org/

Paws with a Cause was founded in 1979 by Michael and Candye Sapp after Mike agreed to train a dog to alert a deaf couple of important sounds, such as their baby crying. Paws With A Cause has grown into a national organization which trains service dogs for people with physical disabilities, seizure response dogs for people who have epilepsy, hearing dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and service dogs for children with Autism.

Paws With A Cause depends on donations as they receive more than 2,000 assistance dog application requests annually and their clients do not pay for assistance dogs. It costs over $30,000 to breed or rescue, raise, train, place, and provide ongoing support for an assistance dog. It is not covered by insurance, and there is no government funding available to sponsor assistance dogs.

Paws With A Cause has a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator

As a community care center, our goal is to provide low-income people with early access to healthcare, and health supporting programs and services, in order to prevent more costly mental and physical health problems. To achieve this, we understand that the health environment must also change, so we partner with the community to inspire both individual and larger scale change.

The clinic is first come first serve, providing access to health care to over 100 patients on Wednesday nights starting at 5 pm in Thousand Oaks and Tuesday nights at 5 pm in Oxnard (starting in 2020). We do not take patients with Medi-Cal, medicare, or other insurance programs.

However, unused and expired medications must be properly discarded so that they do not pose a risk to others. According to the National Community Pharmacists Association, an estimated 200 million pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs are stored in medicine cabinets across America. This situation provides easy access and an opportunity for the abuse of these medications by others for whom they were not intended. In LA County from 2000 to 2009, there were 8,265 drug-related deaths. Public health statistics show that 61 percent of those deaths involved a commonly abused prescription or over-the-counter drug. Of note, nearly 75 percent of residents who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from relatives or friends. Deaths and illnesses caused by the abuse of prescription opioids are of national concern. The number of deaths each year from prescription opioids is now greater than the deaths from heroin, cocaine, and benzodiazepine drugs combined. * Your local Pharmacy * https://www.stericycle.com/en-us/solutions/specialty-services/seal-send-medication-in-home-medication-return *https://www.safemedicinedisposal.org/mailback-envelopes
