Exhaust #48: Paralysis, and the Road Back Mar 19, 2019
    Show notes

It was news both tragic and shocking: in January, former pro racer Blake Savage went riding with his brother-in-law, Ken Roczen. He crashed and broke the C5, C6, and C7 vertebrae in his neck, leaving him with limited feeling and movement. Over the last two months, Blake—who is the trainer for Roczen, Chase Sexton, Cole Seely, and Christian Craig—has fought hard to regain some movement and feeling, but his battle will continue as he attempts to walk again.

What's the experience like? Jason Weigandt chatted with Blake about the process for this podcast, and Blake got raw with the emotional highs and lows, the work, and his hopes for the future. Blake had his own insurance at the time of the injury, but few policies can stand up to the huge medical costs associated with this injury. You can visit Road2Recovery.com to donate to Blake's cause—the more therapy he can do, the better his chances. For now, Blake keeps working, while also continuing to provide training advice to his riders.

    Exhaust #47: Mid-Season Review Mar 01, 2019
    Show notes

It's the season we all dream of: a competitive, unpredictable tilt with surprise winners and contenders, comeback stories, and more. The 2019 season of Monster Energy Supercross (which will somehow be halfway over halfway through this weekend's main event in Atlanta) is worthy of some epic bench racing, so Jason Weigandt sat down to talk about it. With himself! Here's 40-some minutes of thoughts on Webb, Roczen, Marvin, Tomac, 250 East/West, and more, as a special bonus episode of the Racer X Exhaust Podcast.

Exhaust #46: Flat Track Rising Feb 28, 2019
    Show notes

Michael Lock, CEO of AMA Pro Racing, is a fascinating interview in his own right, but talking about American Flat Track's recent resurgence makes for an even more compelling show. Lock doesn't fear bold moves, and some major changes in AFT have moved the needle. Why? How? Lock explains it here as the 2019 AFT season opener looms in Daytona on March 14. Plus, this podcast gives a look inside the general motorcycle market, well beyond the racetrack. It's a great talk with one of the most well-spoken insiders in the industry.

    Show notes

Two-time and defending AMA EnduroCross Champion Colton Haaker joins Jason Weigandt to talk about the dream of a life in motorcycling, how difficult it was to achieve, and the pressure to stay on top. The top supercross riders face that same thing, but they're under the microscope and can't always articulate their fears. Off-road racers have a little more freedom, and Colton takes full advantage both in this podcast and in his new film, Rare Exception. Enjoy this edition of the Racer X Exhaust podcast and get deeper into the mind of a professional racer. And check out Rare Exception, available now for download on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, and Vimeo. Colton is also giving away a 125 to promote the film! Exhaust #44: Supercross in the Media with Denny Hartwig Feb 15, 2019
    Show notes

Everyone in this industry says they want to help grow the sport. For 18 years, it was Denny Hartwig's only mission. Denny served as communications director for Monster Energy Supercross, engaging local and national media with supercross riders, teams, and tracks in attempts to draw more attention to our sport. Today, he works in NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway, which provides a lot of perspective on what our sport does right and wrong, and the challenges it faces. Jason Weigandt sat down with Denny to pick his brain on a variety of topics involving supercross and the media.

    Show notes

Excess lime in the track at the San Diego Supercross led to burned skin and beat motorcycles. Jason Weigandt talks about Feld Entertainment's statement on the situation and the latest news on what will surely be known as #limegate. Then, Weigandt sits down with Justin Barcia, and Bam Bam discusses his maturity, past mistakes, and becoming a leader for Monster Energy Yamaha. Barcia's wife, Amber, even joins the conversation to add perspective—she was very much the one who kept Justin on track, even after he grew so frustrated that he considered retirement.
