Perceiving in the heavenly realm looks like revealed information of knowledge from strictly spiritual sources. Remember, we are always spiritually receiving as God speaks to us through both the natural and internal realms. The fact that in this chapter we are learning how we are perceiving directly from the heavenly realm, as opposed to the natural/ internal, has more to do with the realm we are picking up information from, not it’s spiritual impact.
Perceiving in this manner can often look like involuntary divine revelation. Meaning, you suddenly know something in your knower that was spiritually revealed by the Spirit. Words of knowledge are often received in this way, though certainly they are not limited to our perceiving receptors. Let me give you an example found in the book of Matthew of someone who perceived divine information from the Father Himself.
“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’
They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’
‘But what about you?’ He asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’
Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.’
Matthew 16:13-17
Peter had a revelation that others had not had yet. He knew Jesus was the Messiah, not by what he perceived externally Jesus had done on earth to that point, or what even all of the miracles he had already seen or heard. Peter knew Jesus was the Messiah because it had been revealed to him directly by the Father Himself. Jesus even acknowledged and affirmed to Peter that the Source of his revelation was divine.
