    The Process

There is no shortage of information. If you want to know “WHAT” is happening choose any news source, at random, and likely they will cover the same stories as any other outlet. But will they have context? Can they explain “WHY?” something is happening? Open conversation is scary. Open conversation can create odd narratives, but it also helps us all better understand our world.
The process is a show born from years of experience as both a student of politics and a trial attorney – a combined study in motivation, law, politics, policy, and society that helps focus analysis on the “why behind the what” of daily life. The process is for those who want to understand.

        1. Douglas County prosecutor Joshua Seiden said Lawrence Journal-World should be denied access to public record because it is ‘devoid of journalist integrity’
        2. Joshua Seiden, Douglas County deputy district attorney, had tried to persuade the judge to seal an affidavit because he said the newspaper lacks integrity and is interested in clickbait.
        3. latest attempt by government officials in Kansas to punish a news organization for publishing stories they don’t like - recall the raid in Marion that left an elderly woman dead
        4. Under state law, affidavits are public records unless the state can prove that the public interest would be served by keeping them sealed.
        5. His completely unfounded legal argument: While the Lawrence Journal-World may claim that it requests this information because it is in the public interest, the sad reality is that the Lawrence Journal-World is a fledgling publication devoid of journalist integrity and constantly on the prowl for potential clickbait

        1. A Texas middle school teacher has been fired after assigning an unapproved illustrated version of Anne Frank's Diary to her eighth grade reading class. Per a report from KFDM, a spokesperson for Hamshire-Fannett ISD, located south of Beaumont, released a statement confirming the teacher was sent home on Wednesday after reading a passage from Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation in which Frank wrote about male and female genitalia. An investigation into the incident has since ensued.

        2. For years, electric companies across the nation cited cost concerns in their resistance to clean energy. But that should be the case no longer, thanks to new federal opportunities.
        3. Take the Kansas City-based Evergy, which has taken action to decrease its reliance on coal and increase its renewables-based energy generation. In 2018, Evergy closed some of its coal plants and increased its wind production while working with businesses to attract new development through renewable access. 1. Indiana lawmakers went on the offensive when they limited physician-employer noncompete agreements for the second time in three years — but with a lawsuit pending and an industry adjusting, they’re sitting back to observe before doing more.
        2. And still-unfolding national efforts could supersede it all.

        4. Noncompete agreements bar employees who leave their jobs from working in similar positions within a certain timeframe, and often, a geographical range. In Indiana, physicians working under such agreements must purchase their freedom for a “reasonable” price.

Krystal Simon, CEO of the organization, said Care to Learn reached that mark relatively quickly, compared to the last milestones — it took 10 years to surpass a million.

“It took us 14 years to hit 2 million needs,” Simon said. “About a year later, we hit 3 million.”

The reason for the increased number of needs deals with the growth of the organization. In its 15th year, Care to Learn now has chapters and partners in 42 school districts around Missouri, from Kansas City to Cape Girardeau, reaching about 130,000 public school students.

California also working to get Trump off ballot - follow up from last week talking 14th Amendment

    https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/18/democrats-effort-kick-trump-off-california-ballot-00116476

From Article: Nine California lawmakers wrote a letter to Attorney General Rob Bonta over the weekend, arguing that Trump isn’t eligible to be on the ballot for inciting an insurrection when a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The move, which comes amid several lawsuits to keep Trump off state ballots across the country, is unique because Bonta could use his standing as California’s top law enforcement officer to expedite a state court ruling on the matter. Should the effort succeed, California could be the first state to bump Trump off its ballot, even if the ruling is ultimately overturned.

Bonta would also be the country’s first state attorney general to take a swing at knocking Trump off the ballot. The other cases rely on secretaries of state.

    Young Voters Back Uncle Joe

    https://www.rawstory.com/young-voters-support-biden/

From article: But as a young voter and host of "iGen Politics," Victor Shi observed, the same poll shows a record 65 percent support for Biden among voters under 30. For voters between 30 and 44, Biden enjoys 56 percent support. The lowest amount of support for Biden comes from those over 65.

The official question read: "If next year's 2024 presidential election is between Joe Biden, the Democrat, and Donald Trump, the Republican, who would you vote for?"

As goes Ohio’s Senate Race So Goes The Nation?
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/18/sherrod-brown-democrat-ohio-senate-reelection?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

From Article: A Suffolk University poll in July had Brown in a statistical tie with the leading contenders for the Republican nomination. More than half of voters said they approved of the senator’s job performance but, even among them, one in six said they were likely to vote for the leading Republican candidate.

Brown’s supporters say he unifies disparate Democrats and other voters in a way others in his party do not.

    1. Tim Scott seems to have just realized he’s in the Republican party
      1. https://www.businessinsider.com/tim-scott-responds-gay-rumors-unmarried-black-2024-campaign-2023-9
        1. Sen. Tim Scott, a 2024 GOP presidential candidate, is defending his unmarried status.
        2. It's garnered more attention over the course of the campaign, with some insinuating he's gay.
        3. Scott insists he has a girlfriend and says the attention on his relationship status is a stand-in for other attacks.
        4. Sad that Sen. Scott cannot simply be who his is, or is not.
    2. The Trump 14th Amendment Insurrection clause push is on
      1. Let’s talk 14th Amendment
        1. Often referred to as the “substantive due process” clause and where you can find the “priviledges and immunities” language, along with equal protection
          1. BTW why this isn’t being mentioned as a way to challenge abortion laws, I’m not sure, but that’s another show
        2. Language of 14th: 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Civil Rights (1868) | National Archives
        3. Very Smart Legal Scholar Article
          1. Quote from article: The Congress that proposed the Fourteenth Amendment rightly regarded the situation as outrageous—not only morally, but practically. If former Confederates held the levers of federal and state government power, effective “reconstruction” of the political order and any hope of extending the full and equal protection of the laws to the newly freed former slaves would be at an end.
        4. Section 3 is the insurrection clause: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
        5. Potential problem: section 5 places enforcement with Congress to make laws that enforce the provisions of the 14th, but wording of Sec 3 seems to automatically attach, or be “self executing” in legal terms
      2. Laurence Tribe: If Trump doesn’t qualify for insurrection clause, nobody would

      • He saw a Vivek bumper sticker in the wild in ol’ Missouri and so he thought we maybe had a scavenger hunt, i’m gonna call it bumper sticker bingo
        • Must have a picture - be safe
        • Whoever submits the most unique stickers wins

    • Tario: Prosecutor says, "in the middle of his own trial... Tarrio gave an interview... in which he said the Proud Boys did nothing wrong"
