Procrastination to Shame pipeline (Perfectionism Series)

This type of perfectionist leads with AVOIDANCE and then it leads to SHAME. It's like, when you avoid doing something for so long that it actually feels shameful to start it. You didn't send that text, so the longer time goes by, the harder it feels to say "hey".

The avoidance makes you procrastinate more and you start to believe false narratives of why what you're doing is justified. These stories feel hella real. They sound and feel truthful. But even you can't believe that BS. The guilt!

From a nervous system perspective avoidance make the body uneasy. There's a constant feeling of something hanging over your head. It's an unspoken energy that keeps you from action. Do you relate?

Overdoing to bitterness pipeline (Perfectionism Series).

This type of perfectionist does everything for the love and approval from others. This is our classic people-pleaser who tends to absorb other people's energies and generally feels separated from a sense of self.

From a nervous system perspective, this overdoer is in hyper arousal mode - always problem solving, always neglecting themselves, and often lacks sufficient boundaries.

    Do you relate?

Procrastination to imposter syndrome pipeline (Perfectionism Series)

This type of perfectionist leads with procrastination, indecisiveness, and fear of commitment. And imagine, how big of an imposter you're likely to feel if you don't really commit to anything. You're never putting in the practice hours of being a sucky beginner long enough to see yourself improve.

This procrastination has a HEAVY energy in the physical body; so the longer you wait to do something, the HARDER it becomes. Something easy and simple feels like this big dramatic weight, weighting you down emotionally, mentally, energetically, and even physically.

From a nervous system perspective, the procrastinator is in freeze or shut down mode; the hypo-aroused system makes it harder and harder to do simple things.

Overachieving to burnout pipeline (Perfectionism Series)

This type of perfectionist is not afraid of success, but rather what's going to happen if they stopped achieving. Will people still like you? Will people still find you valuable? Will you still be and feel worthy? This burnout has long term consequences on your health that take YEARS to rectify, including the toll is takes on your adrenal glands, emotions, and nervous system. From a nervous system perspective (aka also why we do breathwork around here), it means training your nervous system to feel safe without triggering it to go into hyperaroual (the part where you do too much and burn yourself out).

    272. What type of a perfectionist are you? The four perfectionist archetypes Feb 01, 2024
    Show notes

Not at all perfectionism looks alike, because there are different motivations behind each archetype. Some perfectionism can actually be healthy ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mItTKzfiK8&t=191s), but most perfectionism can be crippling and limiting. In this conversation, we're exploring the 4 archetypes of perfectionism coming from the maladaptive side of perfectionism.

These archetypes share a common energy - the FEAR OF FAILURE. Most actions, thoughts, and behaviors are driving by fear rather than excitement and joy. When you're only taking actions from a place of what's going to happen if you DON'T do something, you can imagine the negative consequences on your mental and emotional wellbeing.

Go ahead and take the perfectionism quiz before you dive into this conversation and let me know if the comments what archetype you landed on!

    267. Wellness industry is changing in 2024 and how you can adapt (Practitioner's Chit Chat) Dec 07, 2023
    Show notes

I wanted to personally reflect how the energy of 2024 is going to shift how wellness practitioners are able to thrive in a completely different wellness market in the upcoming year. Many folks doubled down on the internet for wellness in 2020, but that energy, including buyer behavior, social psychology, and the NEED for human connection is going to dictate practitioners' success IRL. This means you have to pay attention to social climate and the WAY you are presenting your services (therapy, breathwork, sound healing, etc.). As much as virtual connection has value, practitioners like you are needed to be out IN-PERSON. Though for the last 3 years our trainings, mentorships, and masterminds has been mainly online, I continue to keep a temperature check on how people are seeking connection in today's world. Internet exhaustion is real and we need more authentic people-to-people vibes with practitioners trained and brave enough to hold space. If you can make small adjustments to your practice to reflect that, you're going to be JOLTED…and I mean JOLTED into amazing opportunities that you can't even conceive right now. I practice what I preach, too. And making a "re-shift", if you will, from in person to virtual to in person to… (you get it) comes with its own territories of excitement, fear, and the unknown. For this, I'd revert back to basics. Make a flyer. Invite people. Say Hi. Be a person. Work on your own emotional regulation to bother bringing your gifts out into the world. This being a human, educator, and having space to evolve is some of my favorite things about us, and I'm proud of you for sticking in there. Have you felt this shift? Let me know!
