    Our featured interview tonight is with Fred Janusek. He is a Doctor of Pipes, and professor of mathematics. Fred is in his early 80s, and he has been smoking a pipe since college in 1957. His first pipe was a very shellac-covered Yello Bole. This show will be the first installment of "Storytime with Fred Janusek". These are some great stories back when pipes were everywhere, including men's clothing stores. At the top of the show, we will have an Ask the Tobacco Blender segment with Jeremy Reeves. Jeremy is the Head Blender at Cornell & Diehl, which is one of the most popular boutique pipe tobacco companies in the USA.

    In our featured segment we have Fred Hanna returning. Fred is a well-known pipe collector, author, and speaker at pipe shows. He has a PhD. in psychology and teaches the same at the Chicago Campus at Adler University. He is also author of the book, “The Perfect Smoke”. This is the sixth in a recurring series with a long form discussion of pipe and tobacco questions sent in by our listeners. For this episode, the guys will discuss how high they fill the pipe bowl, how pipe smoking has changed them, and pipe smoking in the old days. This is part two in a three part series with Jeff Gracik, and Jody Davis. Jeff makes J. Alan Pipes and is an expert, artisan pipe maker for nearly 20-years. Jody is a renowned pipe artisan, and the lead guitar player for the Grammy-nominated Christian rock band, The Newsboys. At the top of the show, Brian will do a review of the German-made Wessex Campaign Dark Flake.

    Our featured interview tonight is with pipemaker Jared Coles. Jared was last on the show six years ago. He has been making pipes for 13-years. Jared trained with numerous pipemakers including Jeff Gracik and Todd Johnson. He is schooled in the Danish and Japanese pipe making techniques, and that influences his pipe designs. In the opening “Pipe Parts” segment, we have backlog of comments and emails, so we will have an extended mailbag segment in addition to the regular mailbag segment at the end of the show. These all make for some quite interesting pipes and tobacco discussions.

    Our featured interview tonight is with The Reverend Dr. Malcolm Guite. Malcolm is an English poet, singer-songwriter, Anglican priest, and academic. Born in Nigeria to British expatriate parents, Guite earned degrees from Cambridge and Durham universities. His research interests include the intersection of religion and the arts, and the examination of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, and C. S. Lewis. He definitely fits in around here, and as you can imagine, he definitely smokes a pipe. At the top of the show, in "Pipe Parts", Brian will review Steve Davenport's pipe collection, which includes Lord Davenport pipes amongst others.


    496: Pipe Maker Charles Theivagt. How to Prepare for a Pipe Show. Mar 15, 2022

    Our featured interview tonight is with pipemaker Dr. Charles Theivagt. Charles is a Otolaryngologist in McAllen, TX. (For us regular people, that's a specialist in ears, nose and throat.) He smoked cigars for 20-years, and switched to smoking pipes about three years ago. He became interested in the engineering of pipes, air-flow, etc., which led to his interest in making pipes. Besides following online videos and forums, he trained directly with pipe artisan Jeff Gracik. When he's not practicing medicine or making pipes, he loves to surf in the Gulf of Mexico. At the top of the show, in "Pipe Parts", our topic of discussion will be—How to Prepare for a Pipe Show.
