The Phillies had a huge week at home. They swept the Rays, then won two of three against the Mets, who were the hottest team in baseball.

The Phils seem to be peaking at the right time.

And everybody is contributing, too. Cristopher Sánchez continues to pitch incredibly well, especially at home. Should he be the Phillies’ No. 2 starter in the NLDS, NLCS and World Series, should they get that far and should they have home-field advantage? Reserves Kody Clemens, Cal Stevenson, Buddy Kennedy, Weston Wilson and Aramis Garcia each had big moments during the homestand.

Oh, can’t forget that Bryce Harper homered twice on Saturday night, snapping the second-longest homerless drought of his career.

Meet the Mets, Beat the Mets Sep 13, 2024

It’s wild, but the Phillies and Mets haven’t played a truly meaningful series in September since 2008.

But it’s finally happening again this weekend at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies are trying to clinch their first NL East title since 2011, which could happen next week. The Mets are trying to make the postseason, following a brutal start. These teams will meet again for a four-game series next weekend at Citi Field.

Both series could be a preview of a potential matchup in the NLDS or NLCS.

It should be fun.

Nick Castellanos got hit by a pitch intentionally in the eighth inning. He got upset.

Kyle Schwarber on Phillies struggles helping postseason push Sep 09, 2024

Kyle Schwarber has provided Phillies fans many memorable moments since he signed a four-year contract in March 2022. It was a fantastic coincidence then that he joined “The Phillies Show” during a road trip through Toronto and Miami. Schwarber hit three home runs in a big comeback win on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. He hit a leadoff homer in Wednesday’s victory against the Blue Jays, tying Alfonso Soriano for the most leadoff homers in a season in MLB history with 13. Schwarber offered insight about his personal successes and failures as a player, what makes this Phillies team so close, why the team’s midseason struggles could help them in the postseason and how growing up in a household of first responders shaped him as a person. He also discussed his important work with Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes, which is the foundation he and his wife Paige started in 2017.

Kyle Schwarber had a heck of a series in Toronto, hitting three home runs on Tuesday night, including a no-doubt-about-it, game winner in the ninth, and another leadoff homer on Wednesday.

Schwarber is must-see TV when he is feeling good at the plate.

Bryce Harper hasn’t been feeling great for a few weeks, but he continues to play through elbow and wrist issues. More than a few fans want Rob Thomson to rest Harper, but Harper said it isn’t necessary. Ruben, Jim and Todd are around Harper quite a bit. They offer their take on Harper’s willingness to play through pain.

Should he or shouldn’t he?

The guys also discuss Seth Johnson’s MLB debut on Sunday. The Phillies got him in the Gregory Soto trade. They finish with some talk about Ranger Suárez’s start Thursday in Miami. He pitched well, but his velocity was down. Any reason to be concern? And what about Suárez’s long-term future with the team?

The Phillies haven’t clinched anything yet, but after winning three of four against the Braves this weekend at Citizens Bank Park they are primed to win their first NL East title since 2011.

Nick Castellanos led the way with clutch hitting, including a pair of 0-2 hits in Sunday night’s 3-2 victory in 11 innings. Castellanos hit a game-tying double in the sixth inning and a walk-off single in the 11th.

But it wasn’t just Castellanos this weekend against the Braves. The Phillies got great starting pitching and incredible work from the bullpen, including two perfect innings Sunday night from closer Carlos Estévez.

We also discuss Bryce Harper’s wrist and elbow issues, and how much it has affected his power at the plate.

The Phillies might’ve won their most important game of the season on Thursday night.

They looked dead in the water through five innings against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park, but then Brandon Marsh hit a three-run home run to left field in the sixth to get them within one, and Nick Castellanos hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh to win it. It extended the Phillies’ lead over Atlanta in the NL East with 28 games to play.

Lots of good things happening lately, including Castellanos and Marsh.

But the fellas also dig into the bad. Taijuan Walker has been moved to the bullpen. Why wasn’t he DFA’d? What will his role be moving forward? Is there any chance he’s in Clearwater next spring?
