NHL Player Chris Therien May 10, 2022

Chris Therien's NHL career spanned 12 years and 764 games.

He was a guy you could count on bringing 100% every night on the ice, but all the while Chris was counting on drinking, especially late in his career. The tragic death of his sister, coupled with the pressures of NHL hockey led him to rock bottom in 2006. That's when he checked into Caron Treatment Center with a blood alcohol level of 0.63; death is expected when a person reaches 0.40. Now, Chris is more than a decade sober and works as an advocate for Caron, just one of the many amazing hats he wears in his fulfilling life of sobriety.

    Shane Ramer @ThatSoberGuyPodcast Apr 05, 2022

Shane Ramer is the founder and host of ‘That Sober Guy Podcast’. Starting in 2014, it’s known as one of the top recovery pods out there. Shane’s life as a kid in the Bay Area saw him succeed on and off the baseball diamond but then he started getting high and drunk. All of a sudden drugs and alcohol became the number one priority in his life, as he moshed his way through the punk rock scene. Shane had a lot of bottoms but his true wakeup call was a simple comment from one of his kids. This dude is on fire and so is this pod.

Former NBA Player Mike Gminski Mar 17, 2022

Mike Gminski was the seventh pick in the NBA Draft in 1980, after an all-American career at Duke.

He averaged almost 12 points a game over a 14-year NBA career, where he says alcohol abuse really wasn't an issue.

But then life threw some haymakers at the G-Man and he used drinking and drugs to cope.

On July 13, 2020, Gminski's son Noah and his ex-wife drove him to Florida, where former teammate Jayson Williams is running a treatment center called Rebound Institute.

By that point, Gminski was drinking a fifth of vodka a day and taking Xanax to deal with panic attacks.

At Rebound, he learned how to stay sober and play the game of life again.

Gminski talks with Pete about getting sober, a colorful NBA career, and his work as a successful TV analyst on college basketball games. And he does all his talking from Rebound, where he's now employed.

But most importantly he talks about almost dying a year ago and living his best life today. Gminski calls it a miracle. We bet you'll call this a great podcast.

    NFL's Vance Johnson Mar 03, 2022

Vance Johnson endured life in an abusive household as a kid and drifted into a life of alcohol and drug addiction as an adult.

On the outside life looked perfect. He was a young NFL star with charisma and charm on a team that played in three Super Bowls.

But while the lights were bright on the exterior the darkness crept in internally. Countless overdoses failed marriages and suicide attempts preceded his moment of clarity and walk with God.

This story has the makings of a Hollywood script and Vance Johnson carries the message of sobriety like a leading man.

She moved to LA as a teen and the party was just getting started. Her run in movies and TV was legendary in and out of the studio and her collapse was just as epic.

Now almost 20-years sober, she describes how she got through to the other side and shares gems she uses today to stay serene.

Amy Liz Harrison Aug 19, 2021

Amy Liz Harrison has eight kids and 10-years sober, I could stop right there.

She had four children when she ended up in jail for driving drunk with them all in the car.

At that point, her “perfect” public and wasn’t even put together on the surface anymore and the masquerade was over.

She’s recently written a book and her honesty about her journey in recovery is contagious, it’s also eye-opening when you consider she was a suburban mom with incredible resources at her disposal.

Another example is that alcoholism and addiction don’t discriminate.

Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson Aug 12, 2021

Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson was one of the best young players in the NFL.

By the time he was 25-years old, he’d made the Pro Bowl and played in three Super Bowls (winning one) on America’s Team the Dallas Cowboys.

But as his career evolved so did his addiction to cocaine.

It started hanging out in Los Angeles with Richard Pryor and Marvin Gaye and ended with a love for crack and finally big trouble with the law.

Now, almost 40 years sober, this former NFL star is winning at the game of life “one day at a time” and taking a lot of folks along with him.

    Incredible man, a fantastic podcast

    Mike Gminski Jul 15, 2021

He covers finding out he had a heart issue and losing out on playing college football, after years of abusing drugs and alcohol as a teen.

Then he takes us through a roller-coaster career, where he attempted to juggle working in pro sports and addiction.

Finally, he talks about hitting bottom, getting the gift of desperation, and accepting total defeat before doing whatever it took to get sober.

    Peter F Jun 24, 2021

Peter F and Pete Sousa ran the streets together until Peter F ended up in rehab at 17 and Peter S developed a heart problem at 18.

Peter F stayed sober after that rehab and the darkness he acquired drinking and using turned into a bright light in sobriety, illuminating the road to happy destiny for a lot of guys who followed in his footsteps, including Pete S.

Peter F made a special trip from Phoenix to be in the studio with Pete S and we think you find his trek worthwhile.

25 years sober, he’s got a lot to share.

    Noa Shaw Jun 17, 2021

Noa Shaw went from dealing coke in Studio 54 in his teens to the brink of more than 15 years in prison, after starting up the first weed delivery service in Los Angles.

He cheated death several times and finally almost met the end when, as a drug dealer, he says he became his best customer.

Today, almost 14 years sober he’s making a living amends to the world through giving hopeless people the love they need and silencing the inner critic in his mind and yours too - if you pay attention.

His book “Stop Thinking Thoughts That Scare you” is a selfless help guide of practical tools to eliminate fear and anxiety and live a life of abundance.

You will want to call B.S. on some of his stories but it’s all true, there are pictures and paperwork to back it all up.

    Casey Scott Jun 03, 2021

Casey Scott's rise to fame in Salt Lake City was fast and furious, sorta like his life.

He started in radio right out of college and moved into television after that, where he became a household name in Salt Lake.

Then it all came to a crashing end, literally, when decades of partying caught up to Casey in an ugly DWI wreck.

That was almost three years ago and the dude has been sober ever since.

His story is inspiring and he's hilarious, but it's only funny because he's sober today and is committed to helping others struggling with addiction.

But it’s his performance as a functioning person, while he was a complete drunk, that he and Pete talked about.

They also discussed the magic on the other side of the madness and meeting up at 12-step meetings in Hoboken, New Jersey almost 10 years ago. Brendan is an actor but he's real when he informs, entertains, and inspires talking about sobriety.

Her book “Tonight at 10: Kicking Booze and Breaking News” details all this in great depth and is slated to become a feature film.

    Damian Holbrook Apr 22, 2021

Damian Holbrook's life reads like a drama he might review as a Senior Writer for TV Guide Magazine.

But being a closeted gay guy while going to catholic high school in the '80s, as you cultivate an appetite for alcohol is probably something you can't make up.

Forget about the part where bottoms out at a high school reunion, gets sober, and has his life and career both take flight.
