    430 - Jason Burge - It's Still Billy Joel to Me - Vol. 1

This is a special edition of The Paul Leslie Hour. It's going to be coming out every month and it's a somewhat in-depth discussion about the singer-songwriter, pianist and recording artist Billy Joel.

I believe Billy Joel to be one of the most important American recording artists. He's sold more than 150 million records since his debut in 1971.

I'll be joined in each episode of this series with a music reviewer Jason Burge, who has reviewed more than 100 albums. Burge is a writer, classically-trained pianist, and commentator. He is also a connoisseur of Billy Joel's music.

On each episode we'll discuss in chronological order, all of Billy Joel's studio records. It starts with Cold Spring Harbor in 1971 and the last studio album was the classical album Fantasies and Delusions that came out in 2001. So it will be a 13-part look at all of the albums.

Volume 1 explores Billy Joel's debut album: "Cold Spring Harbor," produced by Artie Ripp. It was recorded in July 1971 and released November 1, 1971.

You are invited to listen to the discussion right here on The Paul Leslie Hour.

    429 - Bob Liberman

It has been said Bob Liberman is a "hell of a storyteller" and has "really led an interesting life," that's how author Ryan White described him. The Bob Liberman certainly has an interesting cast of characters ranging from Jimmy Buffett to Bob Dylan and the people from a circus tour. He was Jimmy Buffett's tour manager for a number of years and traveled with Bob Dylan on the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. He's traveled the world and has the pictures to prove it.

Keep these stories to himself? Bob is not that kind of guy. He was generous to share some of his tales with us right here on The Paul Leslie Hour. Is there a book in Bob Liberman? At least one! Listen to this interview with Liberman and you'll only find yourself wanting more tales. I know I did.

On June 19, 2020 Bob Dylan released "Rough and Rowdy Ways," his 39th studio album, 8 years since his last album. To discuss the new record and more, I was joined by Clinton Heylin, the world's foremost Bob Dylan scholar. A prolific writer on many musical subjects, but in particular a number of highly regarded books on Bob Dylan. A historian, author and real authority on music, it is an honor to have Clinton Heylin on The Paul Leslie Hour.

    424 - Simon Wettenhall

Simon Wettenhall was born in Australia and started his study of music with the piano. Hearing a recording of the legendary Louis Armstrong began his lifelong passion for the trumpet. After studying with two Australian masters of the orchestral trumpet, Wettenhall eventually found himself exploring the earlier music of New Orleans, the city that is unequivocally the birthplace of jazz.

His devotion to the trumpet and early jazz lead him to become a member of the Woody Allen New Orleans Jazz Band, but along the way he has been involved with a diverse variety of groups including Niaggra, the Oceanic Orchestra and many others. A man dedicated to his craft, he also expresses himself by composing and recording his own work.

With the Woody Allen New Orleans Jazz Band, Simon Wettenhall's trumpet and voice brought the traditional music of New Orleans to music venues around America and Europe. It's a pleasure to present this interview for your listening pleasure.
