    #883 - Maya Beiser

The Maya Beiser Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.

Are you here? It’s not because I’m being nosy that I ask, “Are you here?,” but rather its about manners. I want to first welcome you and secondly thank you for being here? Okay? Okay. Good. Welcome.

What we have for you today is our interview with Maya Beiser.

Maya Beiser is one of the most renowned concert cellists, who has released several albums including one in particular entitled “Uncovered,” featuring songs by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Nirvana and more.

In this interview from our vast archives, Maya Beiser talks with Paul Edward Leslie about her roots growing up in Israel as the daughter of an Argentinian man and a French woman, plus her musical side. They get into the album “Uncovered,” a bit.

Hey, would you consider…kindly consider subscribing to Paul Leslie’s YouTube channel? That would be super. Thank you in advance if you can do it.

And with that I see no reason to delay our interview with the lovely Maya Beiser.

    #882 - Sam Arlen

The Sam Arlen Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.

Are you here? Everyone who is here, continue to be…. here. Listening to The Paul Leslie Hour. Stay right here!

If you’re wondering what I’ve got for you, have no fear my friends. I’m going to tell you. This interview with Sam Arlen was recorded for the radio back in 2005. Sam Arlen is a saxophonist and the son of the late American composer Harold Arlen. Our featured guest Sam Arlen joined Paul to talk about the legacy of his father’s songs like "Over the Rainbow" “Stormy Weather” and “Paper Moon.” My goodness Harold Arlen composed some of the greatest songs ever.

Side note: This was a somewhat short phoner, also known as a telephone interview, and one of Paul’s early interviews. You may notice he seemed a bit green and it’s got that telephone sound.

It’s still a fascinating look at Harold Arlen. 2005 was the centennial…100 years since the great composer’s birth. Harold Arlen passed away in 1986, but tunes like “One for My Baby, and One More for the Road,” and “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive” will be around forever.

If you can help us keep The Paul Leslie Hour going, you can continue listening to this show. It helps a lot, but we also rely on regular donations. Simply go here, and we thank you.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, let’s hear that interview with Sam Arlen. Right here. Right now.

Are you here? Interogative… If you put that question backwards, as “here you are,” it’s declarative. Welcome to The Paul Leslie Hour, folks.

Now, we know that Mr. Jimmy Buffett recently went into the hospital. It happens to us all, that’s for sure. I think we can be certain that all of the listeners, your announcer who is speaking as well as Paul are sending him prayers and well wishes. Jimmy means a lot to the world of music and we look forward to him getting back to his old self.

We are about to listen to an in-depth interview with Michael Utley and Robert Greenidge of Club Trini! That’s exclamatory. Greenidge & Utley are longtime members in Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band in addition to their Club Trini project.

This interview was recorded in old Key West, Florida. Yes, it goes back a number of years when Paul was just a wide-eyed pup getting started in the world of radio. Michael and Robert being the great gentlemen that they are stopped in to a backyard and gave Paul as much time as he wanted. Nice guys, aren’t they?

Michael Utley recently mentioned this interview and we thought it was worth bringing it out to to all of our listeners on Spotify, Apple, iHeartRadio, et cetera. It has been digitally remastered for your listening enjoyment.

Here’s an imperative, that means request or command. Please consider liking The Paul Leslie Hour on Facebook. You can also subscribe on YouTube. Do it now.

So let’s hear Michael Utley and Robert Greenidge down in Key West, sitting down with Paul Leslie to talk about Club Trini, Jimmy Buffett and the many artists they recorded with.

    Let’s listen together.

    #879 - Steve Kimock

The Steve Kimcock Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.

Are you here? Sure, you’re here….listening to The Paul Leslie Hour. Paul Leslie, hmmm kind of a blue collar Larry King, huh?

As a lot of you know, The Paul Leslie Hour, has quite an extensive archive of radio interviews. Some of them are what they call phoners. That is, telephone interviews.

This is an interview today with guitar virtuoso Steve Kimock. He’s been heavily compared to Jerry Garcia, but he really is his own deal. Your host Paul Edward Leslie had the chance to see him in concert. It blew his mind.

In this very short, casual phone interview, guitar legend Steve Kimock talks about his influences and some of the great artists he’s worked with from Bernie Worrell to Bruce Hornsby. This interview has been digitally remastered for your listening enjoyment.

So I think it’s important to let you know that we do take contributions to keep the show going. Things like the digital remastering and the hosting do cost money. Just go right here.

And now ladies and gents, it’s time to bring out the Steve Kimock interview. I feel like we owe it to you.

Let’s let the show begin. We want to hear that phoner.

    #878 - Leon Mobley

The Leon Mobley Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour.

Are you here? I ask that question because I want to. I have to. You could say from an instinctual standpoint, I need to. You got me?

This interview is from the radio archives and it goes back quite a bit. So just imagine a much younger Paul Edward Leslie with a small sound recorder backstage in Athens, Georgia. He was sitting down with the percussionist and drummer Leon Mobley. He was playing with Ben Harper. It was a huge, sold-out concert of Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. We think this was probably 2006.

As you’re about to hear this is quite a listening artifact. Leon Mobley is an excellent speaker, full of passion and interesting too. He’s made some great albums on his own and collaborations. This interview in and of itself is just the thing to get you going down a Leon Mobley journey.

Oh, oh, oh! We’d love it if you liked The Paul Leslie Hour on Facebook. We’ve got some great shows coming up and Facebook is a good way to stay in touch and communicate. Also, subscribe on YouTube, please?

Let’s get Leon Mobley going. This tape is ready to have a new life!

This Tom Freund interview was recorded the evening of August 1, 2005 backstage at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia. Are you here? Here’s hoping you are. You’re being here is really everything to us.

Like so many of you, we were very sad to hear about the passing of Gordon Lightfoot. One thing’s for certain, there have been some great Canadian songwriters. From Lightfoot to Leonard Cohen, and inevitably we think of Joni Mitchell.

What we have for you is an interview with Jessica Molaskey from our archives. This was Paul Edward Leslie’s second appearance on The Paul Leslie Hour. In this interview Jessica Molaskey talks about her studio album, “Portraits of Joni,” on Ghostlight Records, featuring her interpretations of Joni Mitchell songs. In fact, the official Joni Mitchell website even publicized this interview when it originally broadcast on the radio.
