Alicia is on Her Way to Get an Abortion and Asks Patrick Madrid for Advice (Special Podcast Highlight) Sep 13, 2023
    Show notes

Would you pray for Alicia? She is scared to have another baby and is tempted to have an abortion. She found Relevant Radio by accident because she is normally used to listening to an NPR station. God is moving!

She reaches out to Patrick Madrid for guidance. She shares that she is on her way to get abortion pills at a clinic but is feeling anxious and guilty about this. Alicia has two children at home, is in her last year of university, and feels overwhelmed.

Patrick Madrid engages with her, offering a pro-life perspective based on the fact that every life, including the unborn, is intrinsically valuable and deserving of protection. He discusses his own experience of having many children and how love multiplies when you have more, emphasizing the sanctity of life. Patrick suggests that someone would have to die for her situation to potentially improve, which is a morally troubling choice.

Throughout the conversation, Patrick Madrid encourages Alicia to reconsider her decision and consider the long-term emotional impact on her family and herself. He stresses the importance of choosing life and suggests that her conscience is a sign from God.

Patrick suggests that she reach out to a pro-life women's clinic called Waterleaf.

Please consider praying a Rosary, Chaplet, or making a sacrifice for Alicia so that she can have the grace to choose life.

Is Fighting in Mixed Martial Arts Moral? (Special Podcast Highlight) Sep 12, 2023
    Show notes

Do you have a need for speed? Is fighting in Mixed Martial Arts moral? Is engaging in a risky sport morally problematic? Patrick navigates through this ethical question and provide some insights into assessing the risks and purposes of engaging in such activities.

His perspective is that engaging in a sport like mixed martial arts is not inherently immoral as long as it is pursued for the sake of sport, without undue risks to one's health. He emphasizes that if a sport poses a significant risk of physical harm, it can raise moral concerns.

Patrick refers to the Fifth Commandment, "thou shalt not kill," and suggests that this commandment should be considered when evaluating activities that could cause unnecessary harm to the body. He differentiates between defending oneself or others in a situation where harm may be inevitable and participating in extreme sports solely for thrills, which he views as potentially sinful if there is no compelling reason for the risk involved.

Patrick also raises the importance of assessing the purpose behind participating in a sport and questions whether it is worth potentially causing serious harm to oneself or others. He advises considering the moral principles of the church when evaluating such activities.

Patrick concludes that participating in mixed martial arts or similar sports are nothing to be concerned about if the risks are reasonably low and justifiable, but he expresses caution about sports that have a high likelihood of causing significant harm, bringing up the example of Muhammad Ali's health deterioration due to repeated head injuries in boxing.

    9/11: A Flight Attendant's Firsthand Account (Special Podcast Highlight) Sep 11, 2023
    Show notes

Do you remember where you were on Sept. 11th, 2001? Do you remember the pain, confusion, and fear that so many people experienced?

Patrick Madrid talks to caller Katrina, a former flight attendant who experienced the events of 9/11. Katrina recounts her experience as a New York-based flight attendant who had just completed a flight from JFK to San Francisco on September 10, 2001. She was staying at a crew hotel in San Francisco when her boyfriend from the East Coast called her early in the morning to tell her to turn on the TV and learn about the 9/11 attacks.

Katrina describes the shock and emotional impact of watching the events unfold on television with her fellow crew members. She was scheduled to return to New York on September 11 but was grounded in San Francisco due to the ground stop. Katrina's crew eventually became the first to fly after 9/11, but it was a repositioning flight with no passengers.

During the conversation, Katrina and Patrick discuss the profound changes in airline security and passenger anxiety that followed 9/11. They talk about the heightened awareness of passengers and flight crews, the changes in security measures, and the lasting impact on the airline industry. Katrina also shares her deepened faith and how it helped her cope with the traumatic experience and uncertainty during that time.

The conversation highlights the resilience of those affected by 9/11, the importance of faith in difficult times, and the lasting effects of the tragedy on the aviation industry.
