    Show notes

(Part 2/2)January 31, 1993. Amarillo, Texas. The wife and daughter of 39-year old David Lewis return home from a weekend trip and discover that David is not at the house and has left his watch and wedding ring behind. David’s abandoned car is soon discovered in the downtown area with his identification and many other personal items inside, but even though investigators turn up a series of bizarre clues, including a pair of plane tickets purchased under David’s name, they are unable to find him. Eleven years later, David is positively identified as a John Doe who was fatally struck by a vehicle on a highway in Yakima County, Washington just over 24 hours after he originally went missing. But how and why did David wind up nearly 1,600 miles from his home? Did he travel there voluntarily or was he abducted? Was David’s death a random hit-and-run accident, an elaborate suicide, or an intentional homicide? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” explores the truly bizarre unexplained death of David Lewis, one of the most baffling mysteries we’ve ever covered.

    William L. Toomey Pt. 2 Jul 21, 2022
    Show notes

December 4, 1982. Boise, Idaho. A stranger enters the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and takes his own life by swallowing a cyanide capsule. He carries a suicide note signed “William L. Toomey”, but this turns out to be a false name and the man is never identified. Years later, investigators explore a theory that Toomey’s suicide might be connected to the murders of two Catholic priests, Father Patrick Ryan and Father Benjamin Carrier. To further complicate matters, a suspect was arrested for Father Ryan’s murder only weeks before Toomey’s death, even though the evidence strongly suggested he was innocent of the crime. Who was the mysterious “William L. Toomey” and what compelled him to take his own life? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” is a very deep rabbit hole which explores multiple cold cases involving the Catholic Church and the possibility that they are related.

Marilu Geri Pt. Two Jun 16, 2022
    Show notes

(Part 2/2)February 14, 1986. Sugar Land, Texas. 43-year old insurance agent Stephen Geri phones the mother of his 33-year old wife, Marilu Geri, and asks her to visit Marilu at their house to help her prepare for a party. When Marilu’s mother arrives, she discovers that her daughter has been shot four times. Since there were troubles with the marriage and Stephen stands to collect on a substantial life insurance policy, he is viewed as a person of interest in Marilu’s death, but he also seems to have an alibi during the time period she was killed. However, there is suspicion that Stephen’s alibi might be fabricated, but since there is no direct evidence to implicate him, the crime remains unsolved. Did Stephen Geri orchestrate the murder of his wife? If not, who else could have killed Marilu? We explore both sides of this controversial case on this week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly”.

Amy Billig Pt. Two Jun 02, 2022
    Show notes

(Part 2/2) March 5, 1974. Coconut Grove, Florida. 17-year old Amy Billig phones her father from her home and arranges to meet him at his workplace in order to borrow money to have lunch with friends. Amy is last seen hitchhiking next to a highway, but she never shows up to meet her father or her friends and is subsequently reported missing. After being informed that Amy was abducted by a gang of bikers, her mother, Susan Billig, spends the next several years attempting to track her down and even encounters a biker who claims to have bought and owned Amy for a time. The Billig family also has to endure two decades’ worth of harassing phone calls from another man who claims to have kidnapped Amy, but even after the caller is identified and arrested, no trace of Amy is ever found. Was Amy Billig actually abducted and held captive by bikers? Was the tormenting caller responsible for Amy’s disappearance? Or could an unknown third party have murdered her instead? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” chronicles one of the most convoluted missing persons cases we’ve ever covered, which has still not found a conclusive resolution after 45 years.
