Harold & Thelma Swain Pt. Two Dec 07, 2023
    Show notes

March 11, 1985. Waverly, Georgia. While holding a Bible class at the Rising Daughters Baptist Church, 66-year old deacon Harold Swain is summoned to the vestibule by an unidentified man. Harold is soon shot to death and when his 63-year old wife, Thelma Swain, goes to check on him, she is fatally shot as well. Eighteen years later, a suspect named Dennis Perry is convicted of the murders and receives two life sentences. However, controversy surrounds the conviction, as a lot of crucial evidence went missing, Perry seemed to have a solid alibi, and another suspect allegedly bragged about the murders. Did Dennis Perry actually commit this crime, or has the real killer escaped justice? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” examines an “Unsolved Mysteries” case which may not be as “solved” as everyone thinks.

Ed Baker Pt. Two Nov 09, 2023
    Show notes

November 8, 1985. Harris County, Texas. A burned-out Jaguar belonging to 52-year old Ed Baker, the millionaire chairman of a Houston-based oil investment business, is discovered in a remote field. The charred remains of what is believed to be Baker’s body are in the passenger’s seat and since he had been suffering from serious financial problems and claimed he was receiving death threats, there is suspicion that Baker was murdered by people he owed money to. However, some people suspect that Baker staged an elaborate suicide in order to ensure his family could collect on his life insurance policies. Did Ed Baker kill himself or was he the victim of foul play? Or could he have actually faked his own death and fled the country? We shall explore all the different theories on this week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly”, which covers a very bizarre unexplained death.

Chris Jenkins Pt. Two Oct 26, 2023
    Show notes

October 31, 2002. Minneapolis, Minnesota. 21-year old university student Chris Jenkins celebrates Halloween by going to a local bar with friends. After he is ejected from the establishment, Chris vanishes without a trace and his body is found in the Mississippi River four months later. While police initially believe that Chris’ death was an accidental drowning, his family uncovers disturbing discrepancies to suggest his body was not in the river the entire time he was missing and that he was a victim of foul play. After four years, the Minneapolis police chief reopens the investigation, reclassifies Chris’ death as a homicide, and issues an apology to the Jenkins family. What actually happened to Chris Jenkins after he left the bar? Could his death somehow be connected to the infamous “Smiley face murder theory”? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” examines a truly baffling Halloween night mystery.

Doyle Wheeler Pt. Two Oct 12, 2023
    Show notes

April 19, 1988. Suncrest, Washington. 36-year old Doyle Wheeler, a former police officer from the San Diego Police Department, is attacked inside his home by a group of armed intruders. They force Wheeler to write a suicide note at gunpoint, hog-tie him, and fire a shot which grazes the side of his head, but he winds up surviving the attack. Evidence seems to link the intruders to another San Diego police officer named Donovan Jacobs whom Wheeler had testified against at a previous murder trial. While Wheeler suspects Jacobs of orchestrating the attempt on his life, Jacobs believes the incident never even happened and accused Wheeler of fabricating the entire story in order to set him up. Did Donovan Jacobs attempt to have Doyle Wheeler killed? Did Wheeler orchestrate a fake home invasion in order to frame Jacobs? Or could an unknown third party have been behind the entire thing? On this week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly”, we explore the alleged attempted murder of a police officer in one of the most unique and complex stories we’ve ever covered.
