Jessy Muller on Taking the Slow Road and Living Full-Time in Her Vintage Commander Aug 22, 2024
    Show notes

Scott interviews Jesse “Slow Roamer,” a content creator living full-time on the road in a 1978 Dodge Commander since 2017, about “slow travel” as a way to be present, avoid burnout, and build deeper experiences. They discuss how road life unexpectedly brought Jesse more community, her role educating followers on Leave No Trace and trail etiquette amid growing backcountry crowds, and how she finds boondocking spots by avoiding tourist hubs and using iOverlander while considering road conditions and cell service. Jesse shares practical comfort and self-sufficiency tips (fans, a small evaporative cooler, ice packs for her cat, simple cooking, composting toilet, water conservation, and sponge-bath routines), solo safety strategies (arrive early, plan backups, share location, lock doors, motion lights, tidy camp), and advice for newcomers, including sorting vehicle mechanics before launching.

Principles of Overlanding: Vehicle Electrical Systems with Mark Bruce Aug 15, 2024
    Show notes

When you’re embarking on an overland vehicle build, the electronics side of things can seem awfully intimidating. Alternators, inverters, converters, AGM, solar, induction, fuses, MPPT, LiFePO4, volts, amp hours, watts, DC-to-DC—where does the madness end? Fear not. Overland Journal Podcast host Scott Brady touches base this week with Redarc Electronics International Training and Development Manager Mark Bruce to go over all things vehicle electronics. Do things get a little nerdy in this episode? They do. But there is also a wealth of excellent knowledge for both the beginner and expert alike.

Father's Day Special: Interviewing Larry Brady Jun 16, 2024
    Show notes

On this Father's Day, we celebrate all of the dads. We are grateful to those with us and honor those who were gone too soon. Dads have an important job, providing protection, love, support, training, and much more. It is a hard job, and it is supposed to be, as honoring those responsibilities helps boy become men, and if they are fortunate- they become fathers, too. For this Father's Day, I am blessed with honoring my dad, Larry Brady. He did the hard work and has been there for my sister Shannon and me, without exception, for the entirety of our lives. He served in the US Military in the Vietnam War, became a sportsman, and showed me how to be an outdoorsman while also respecting the wild places we interact with. He also became a pilot, horseman, Tournament of Roses rider, and actor in numerous TV shows and movies. He played a cowboy, outlaw, and even Wyatt and Virgil Earp. My dad worked tirelessly to provide for our family, yet somehow managed to be cheering from the sidelines during my football games. I don't know how he did all of it, but I am grateful that he found the courage to be the father I love and admire. I hope you all enjoy my chance to interview my dad for the Overland Journal Podcast, and I encourage you to do the same with your family.
