Episode 654 - Wicus Diedericks || The Toll Of Rhino Conservation Jul 14, 2026

Show notes

Rhino conservation in South Africa is not for everyone. It's fraught with security liabilities, risks, and poaching concerns, all in an environment that is devaluing Rhinos. Wicus Diedericks, owner of one of only 2 or 3 white rhino conservation breeding facilities in South Africa, invited Robbie to Rockwood to see the scale of the operation. Wicus has been in a legal fight with the South African government about the trade of legal Rhino Horn. If you want to listen to the first podcast in this series check out episode 605 . Today Wicus and Robbie sit down at Rockwood, on the ground at his facility. From feed to camera to security infrastructure, one thing is clear: these people care about Rhinos deeply.

Episode 653 - National Geographic Came Knocking Jul 09, 2026

Show notes

Yesterday we had a HUGE news story break. We have been keeping it quite a secret for over 2 months now, that we have our first set of cubs out of our Panyame Cheetah Project. However, even though having cubs is the most amazing news story ever, we are just as excited to announce that the entire Panyame Cheetah Project has been picked up by National Geographic and an article has been written about our work. If you had asked Robbie at the beginning of this project and the short life of The Origins Foundation what a goal would have been - it would have been to be featured in National Geographic. Well we have done it, in a short 6 year span as a non-profit.

Episode 651 - The Metapopulation Initiative || A New Beginning Jul 02, 2026

Show notes

If you’ve never heard of The Metapopulation Initiative (TMI), you are about to hear a lot more about them. The TMI started by Vincent Van De Merwe, was an initiative to expand cheetah conservation in Africa and Asia. Vincent was amoverand shaker and didn't always do things by the book - he was so driven by his passion, that he got frustrated with the bureacracy of the world when it came to cheetah conservation. Vinny was the catalyst for our Panyame Cheetah project, and his tragic death just weeks before our historic move of 16 cheetahs changed our outlook on things. In order to continue his legacy, continue what he championed at TMI we needed to figure out something. We, The Origins Foundation, needed to help. In this podcast, Robbie sits down with the directors of TMI in South Africa and discusses the history and the announcement of TMI's partnership with The Origins Foundation.

Episode 650 - Is A Rhino Hunt Conservation? Part 1. Jun 30, 2026

Show notes

In this first of a two part series on rhino conservation (one of the most delicate, complex and nuanced areas of conservation) Robbie sits down with the fan favorite Slots Media boys (and newbie Freddie) to discuss Rhino conservation on the ground. This podcast was recorded right after a rhino hunt, and just before a lot of fieldwork around Rhino conservation. Robbie wanted to gain their perception and perspective of how they feel about the hunt, generally about Rhino Conservation, BEFORE they spent several weeks learning all about it. Be sure to tune in for part two in a couple weeks!
