Have We Created A Food Desert For Bees? Jun 04, 2014
    Show notes

There is a great deal of concern that our honeybees do not have enough food to eat because of the amount of pesticides being used. However, most homeowners do not realize that their demand for pristine lawns and continuously flowering plants that have low to zero maintenance are a huge part of the problem. The lack of food not only effect honeybees but other pollinators such as butterflies. Are we sacrificing sources of food so that our yards can be free from the site of plants such as clover, and dandelions, etc? Even roadside maintenance poses an issue as wildflowers and other beneficial plants are mowed down for aesthetics. Is there anything we can really do to keep our yards looking nice and not take away food from pollinators? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Vera Krischik about how we can help pollinators by practicing IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and take an active role in replenishing available food sources. Dr. Krischik is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Entomology at the U of Minnesota and an Extension Specialist in Landscape Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Stay tuned!

How To Help Veterans From Agent Orange Exposure May 22, 2014
    Show notes

During the Vietnam War, the US military sprayed millions of gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides on trees and vegetation. Several decades later, concerns about the health effects from these chemicals continue. One of the groups impacted by Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning is the servicemen who were at sea. These brave men are often referred to as Blue Water Navy, which includes Coast Guard and Fleet Marine personnel. Although it has been over forty years, there are still so many servicemen as well as their offspring who continue to suffer due to Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning. While the United States Veterans Administration offers "eligible Veterans", a free Agent Orange Registry health exam to assess possible long-term health problems related to exposure, gathering the information is quite a task. However, there are people out there who are doing everything they can to help our veterans get the help that they need. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mr. John J. Bury, a retired US Navy and Vietnam War Veteran. Today’s show is brought to you by LiquidWeb.com the most reliable hosting provider with 24/7 heroic support!
