Daniel Burton-Rose: Creating a Movement with Teeth: A Documentary History of the George Jackson Brigade
We are cozy cuddly/armed and dangerous/and we will/raze the fucking prisons/to the ground.” In an attempt to deliver on this promise, the George Jackson Brigade launched a violent three-year campaign in the mid-1970s against corporate and state institutions in the Pacific Northwest. This campaign, conceived by a group of blacks and whites, both straight and gay, claimed fourteen bombings, as many bank robberies, and a jailbreak. Drawing on extensive interviews with surviving members of the George Jackson Brigade, Guerrilla USA provides an inside-out perspective on the social movements of the 1970s, revealing the whole era in a new and more complex light. It is also a compelling exploration of the true nature of crime and a provocative meditation on the tension between self-restraint and anger in the process of social change.
Daniel Burton-Rose is a sixth year doctoral candidate specializing in religious discourse in late imperial China. He spent the 2013-14 academic year conducting researching in Suzhou supported by a Fulbright Fellowship. His dissertation is titled: “The Religious Lives of Qing Dynasty Literati-Officials: Ancestor Reverence, Spirit-Writing, and Temple Patronage among the Peng Clan of Suzhou, 1650s-1790s.”

Brian McCracken - New Witness in Arlis Perry Murder Dec 14, 2021
    Show notes

A new witness has emerged in a cold-case murder with a connection to “Son of Sam” David Berkowitz — and he has told police that a prominent entertainer now living in New York City may be responsible for the crime, The Post has learned.
Brian McCracken, a 64-year-old technical writer, gave authorities a bizarre account of what happened the night of the unsolved slaying inside Stanford Memorial Church in Stanford, Calif., more than 40 years ago, including fresh details about a wig-wearing flutist, a candlelit Satanic ritual and a naked female victim.
And McCracken says that the flutist could be the man at the center of the vicious killing.

As an independent researcher and journalist,
I depend entirely on the support of my readers to fund my work.
I traveled through the Middle East and studied the region's history and languages before earning a degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz with an emphasis on the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Along with my research and writing, I have worked as an editor and translator. My travels and studies of German, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Hebrew and Arabic languages have helped me analyze international politics and events.
Having worked as an independent investigative journalist from 2000-2006, I worked a great deal on investigating the events of 9/11. In 2007, after having been attacked by undercover police at my home and forced into exile, I began writing a book entitled Solving 9-11, which is dedicated to explaining what really happened and bringing the events of 9-11 into historical perspective.

    David Cobb Dec 12, 2021
    Show notes

David Cobb is a “people’s lawyer” who has sued corporate polluters, lobbied elected officials, run for political office himself, and been arrested for non-violent civil disobedience. He believes we must provoke—and win– a peaceful revolution for a peaceful, just, sustainable and cooperative society if we are to survive.
David was born in rural Texas and worked as a laborer before going to college and Law School. He maintained a successful law practice in Houston for almost a decade before devoting himself to full-time social change efforts.
In 2002 David ran for Attorney General of Texas, pledging to use the office to revoke the charters of corporations that repeatedly violate health, safety and environmental laws. In 2004, he ran for President of the United States on the Green Party ticket and forced a recount in Ohio that helped launch the Election Integrity movement.
In 2010 he co-founded Move To Amend, a campaign for a constitutional amendment to abolish the illegitimate, court-created doctrines of “corporate constitutional rights” and “money equals speech.” In 2016 he served as the Campaign Manager for Jill Stein’s presidential campaign.
In addition to his work at Cooperation Humboldt, he is a member of the North Coast People’s Alliance and serves as a Fellow for the Liberty Tree Foundation for a Democratic Revolution.

Gone at Midnight: The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam Dec 12, 2021
    Show notes

A Los Angeles hotel with a haunting history. A missing young woman. A disturbing video followed by a shocking discovery. A cold-case mystery that has become an internet phenomenon—and for one determined journalist, a life-changing quest toward uncomfortable truths.
Twenty-one-year-old Vancouver student Elisa Lam was last heard from on January 31, 2013, after she checked into downtown L.A.’s Cecil Hotel—a 600-room building with a nine-decade history of scandal and tragedy. The next day, Elisa vanished. A search of the hotel yielded nothing. More than a week later, complaints by guests of foul-smelling tap water led to a grim discovery: Elisa’s nude body floating in a rooftop water tank, in an area extremely difficult to access without setting off alarms. The only apparent clue was a disturbing surveillance video of Elisa, uploaded to YouTube in hopes of public assistance.
As the eerie elevator video went viral, so did the questions of its tens of millions of viewers. Was Elisa’s death caused by murder, suicide, or paranormal activity? Was it connected to the Cecil’s sinister reputation? And in that video, what accounted for Elisa’s strange behavior? With the help of web sleuths and investigators from around the world, journalist Jake Anderson set out to uncover the facts behind a death that had become a macabre internet meme, as well as a magnet for conspiracy theorists.
In poring through Elisa’s revealing online journals and social-media posts, Anderson realized he shared more in common with the young woman than he imagined. His search for justice and truth became a personal journey, a dangerous descent into one of America's quiet epidemics. Along the way, he exposed a botched investigation and previously unreported disclosures from inside sources who suggest there may have been a corporate conspiracy and a police cover-up. In Gone at Midnight, Anderson chronicles eye-opening discoveries about who Elisa Lam really was and what—or whom—she was running from, and presents shocking new evidence that may re-open one of the most chilling and obsessively followed true crime cases of the century.

MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF Mitrice Richardson Dec 11, 2021
    Show notes

MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF: Mitrice Richardson Part 2
Mitrice Lavon Richardson (born April 30, 1985 – remains found August 9, 2010) was a 24-year-old African-American woman who went missing on September 17, 2009, after police claim she was released from a jail in Calabasas, California, where she had been taken after behaving erratically at a restaurant. She was missing for 11 months before being found deceased in August 2010 by park rangers.[1]
Richardson's parents have maintained that their daughter should never have been released on her own by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, given her obviously disturbed condition. In 2011, the Richardson family settled the civil lawsuit with L.A. County privately for $900,000. In January 2017, the California Attorney General's office concluded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Richardson's release from jail and decided not to bring charges against anyone involved in her release.[2]
