David Whelan Returns - Update on the John Lennon murder
When John Lennon was shot in December 1980, the world went into shock. Lennon was truly a man of his age - or at least he played such very well - and his death meant no one, no matter their wealth and fame were immortal.
The furore which followed the assassination provided cover for the weak story causing it. Where did Chapman stand? How did he have so much money? How does a man, losing blood and oxygen at a fatal rate, stagger up to an office, open a heavy mahogany door and say 'I'm shot'? There's questions regarding the security around Lennon, the conversation taped with Jack Douglas which Douglas deleted that night, and, yes, the changing of the will shortly before the event.
Witnesses say there was a second gunman, and Whelan has evidence to back this up.
Whatever the truth of Lennon's demise, we never got the full story. In the decades since, revisiting it with a cold, keen eye, reveal the all too obvious tall tale the killing was.
This interview is one of two detailing the revelations and research David Whelan has undertaken, the first hand witnesses he has spoken to and the facts *someone* tried to conceal.

David Whelan - The John Lennon Assassination
December the 8th, 1980. New York. West 72nd. The building which is one of the oldest in New York City, so old there were not even roads around it at first, was the location for one of the most notorious killings of the 20th Century.
Waiting outside the Dakota is Mark Chapman, a fan from Hawaii who will, at about 11:23pm, claim his place in history by firing his hollow point bullets from his .38 into John Lennon.
Instantly the media branded him a lone nut. The world mourned while Chapman was arrested and charged in an investigation which was anything but thorough.
Since then questions have started to arise about the exact sequence of events, the handling of evidence and the lack of either a proper forensic investigation or indeed, almost any other kind. It was a slam dunk for NYPD. Or so it seemed.
David Whelan is a documentary filmmaker and writer who has been researching the Lennon assassination, and has evidence and statements from those there on the night which gives a strong possibility Chapman didn't kill Lennon. At least, not alone.

Arielle Holmes - Mad Love in NYC
Ten years ago, Arielle Holmes was working as a dominatrix named Siouxsie at a club called Pandora’s Box. After she finished her shift she’d sleep in a doorway or park bench, then, when morning dawned, supplement her income by panhandling on New York’s Upper West Side..
One day, she was stopped by a man as she went into the subway. He was researching a movie, he said, and asked her if she might want to be in it. “I figured: what do I have to lose? I looked him up. He made movies. So I thought, you know, maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t.”
As they became friends, Holmes opened up about being homeless, her drug habit, her destructive relationship with another addict, Ilya, and her troubled upbringing. The director – Josh Safdie, part of an acclaimed Manhattan collective – encouraged Holmes to write about her experiences. She did, and her candid recollections – soon to be published as a memoir, Mad Love in New York City - convinced him to abandon the project he was working on and instead shoot a movie based on her life-story. Starring her.
It's a story of strength, life and survival through epically bad times.

Dr Whitehurst joins Ed Opperman to discuss his work and his public revelations about short comings in FBI investigations to meet targets or frame specific people.
Dr. Frederic Whitehurst is a former FBI scientist who “blew the whistle” on misconduct within the FBI crime lab, resulting in extensive reforms being made. He was America’s first successful FBI whistleblower. His case exposed forensic fraud in the FBI crime lab and subjected it to outside oversight for the first time. In 1997, Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto won a landmark victory and was responsible for a historic Presidential Executive Order ensuring whistleblower protection rights for FBI Agents who expose misconduct. They also obtained an extraordinary settlement of $1,166,000 plus $258,580 in attorney’s fees.
Dr. Whitehurst established the Forensic Justice Project at the National Whistleblowers Center and initiated Freedom of Information Act requests that led to a NWC/Washington Post investigation of the FBI Crime Lab that forced the FBI to review 20,000 hair analysis cases. The investigation to date has resulted in several exonerations, reversals of convictions, and one stayed execution.
