Falcon and the Snowman True Story Part 2 Nov 04, 2023
    Show notes

The literary sequel to The Falcon and the Snowman that answers the question: What happened to Christopher Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee after they were sent to prison?"A compelling narrative of survival and redemption." —Robert Lindsey, author of The Falcon and the Snowman
Forty years before the names Snowden and Manning entered the world’s cultural lexicon, Christopher Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee became America’s youngest convicted spies—condemned to federal prison in 1977 for their roles in one of the most highly publicized espionage cases in Cold War history.
Yet the story of their crime, as told in the book and movie The Falcon and the Snowman, was only the beginning.
Locked away in some of the country’s most violent and inhospitable prisons, Boyce and Lee survived repeated attempts on their lives and years of solitary confinement before a young and idealistic paralegal, Cait Mills, attempted to put them on the path to freedom. Diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Mills’ determination to continue her work while battling the illness ultimately changed all three of their lives.
American Sons: The Untold Story of the Falcon and the Snowman is an incredible true story told by the people who lived it—a narrative of survival against impossible odds, a case study on the indomitability of the human spirit, and a testament to the transformative power of forgiveness.
The 40th anniversary edition of American Sons includes new and expanded content, including numerous articles written by Christopher Boyce for the Minneapolis Star Tribune during the late '80s and early '90s that shed stark light on life behind prison walls.Winner of the 2017 International Publisher Award for best biography.

Prayer Man: More Than a Fuzzy Picture Nov 04, 2023

    Bart Kamp - Prayer Man
    September 27
Bart Kamp is a photographer and researcher who has spent much of his time engaged in his passion - reading. This lead him into the whole JFK and RFK stories, with obvious particular reference to the assassinations.
As a trained professional photographer, he has 'read' the pictures taken at the time of the JFK shooting, and has an informed and interesting hypothesis.
The publication of Prayer Man: More Than a Fuzzy Picture represents an unprecedented decade-long investigation of Lee Harvey Oswald’s last 48 hours.
Bart Kamp has produced a comprehensive work which delves into Lee Harvey Oswald and the other Texas School Book Depository employees inside the building during and shortly after President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd 1963.
Kamp’s detailed research also examines the period of Oswald’s incarceration and interrogations. It presents an entirely new and deep perspective of how the law enforcement agencies gathered their evidence that weekend. It reveals a dramatic new context in relation to understanding Lee Harvey Oswald's innocence.
Within these pages are many new and never before published revelations that contrast the altered accounts that were represented before the Warren Commission and challenges many commonly accepted assumptions and interpretations.
Prayer Man: More Than a Fuzzy Picture is Kamp’s debut on the JFK Assassination.

Monique - Radio Gunk : Howard Stern
    October 11
Monique is a radio addict, with particular emphasis on Howard Stern. She has developed an audience which is both loyal and interactive; they talk about anything from what Stern is up to and pop culture in general. The forum is one of the most diverse on the subject of radio and pop culture venturing into Politics, social issues and other items of interest.
As the giant freight train that is Howard Stern continues, and with his accruing yet more outrageous amounts of wealth, his show has not only carried some notable guests, it's had it's share of performative cruelty; one only has to remember the treatment of the late Dana Plato, a vulnerable woman who got the sharp end of Howards' tongue, who left the studio and promptly killed herself.
Although the show wasn't probably the direct causes of Plato's final actions, she had many problems, but it certainly didn't help and with the knowledge of what happened subsequently, extremely uncomfortable listening
But Stern is still there, with a considerable following. Is it all fake? Or is Stern as he sounds on the radio? These are questions which fascinate people, even outside radio 'geeks'.
Monique has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of those involved with the Stern phenomenon. She talks to Ed Opperman about how the sidekicks have not prospered, despite being part of the team which got paid $90m. No one seems to have come out of their association with Stern unblemished.

CIA as Organized Crime: How Illegal Operations Corrupt America and the World Nov 01, 2023
    Show notes

Author of three books on CIA operations, Valentine’s research into CIA activities began when CIA Director William Colby gave him free access to interview CIA officials who had been involved in various aspects of the Phoenix program in South Vietnam. It was a permission Colby was to regret. The CIA would rescind it, making every effort to impede publication of The Phoenix Program, which documented the CIA’s elaborate system of population surveillance, control, entrapment, imprisonment, torture and assassination in Vietnam. While researching Phoenix, Valentine learned that the CIA allowed opium and heroin to flow from its secret bases in Laos, to generals and politicians on its payroll in South Vietnam. His investigations into this illegal activity focused on the CIA’s relationship with the federal drugs agencies mandated by Congress to stop illegal drugs from entering the United States. Based on interviews with senior officials, Valentine wrote two subsequent books, The Strength of the Wolf and The Strength of the Pack, showing how the CIA infiltrated federal drug law enforcement agencies and commandeered their executive management, intelligence and foreign operations staffs in order to ensure that the flow of drugs continues unimpeded to traffickers and foreign officials in its employ.Ultimately, portions of his research materials would be archived at the National Security Archive, Texas Tech University’s Vietnam Center, and John Jay College. This book includes excerpts from the above titles along with subsequent articles and transcripts of interviews on a range of current topics, with a view to shedding light on the systemic dimensions of the CIA’s ongoing illegal and extra-legal activities. These terrorism and drug law enforcement articles and interviews illustrate how the CIA’s activities impact social and political movements abroad and in the United States.A common theme is the CIA’s ability to deceive and propagandize the American public through its impenetrable government-sanctioned shield of official secrecy and plausible deniability.Though investigated by the Church Committee in 1975, CIA praxis then continues to inform CIA praxis now. Valentine tracks its steady infiltration into practices targeting the last population to be subjected to the exigencies of the American empire: the American people.

Seducing and Killing Nazis: Hannie, Truus and Freddie: Dutch Resistance Heroines of WWII
This is the astonishing true story of three teenage Dutch girls, Hannie Schaft and sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen, that has inspired many throughout the world.
When Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in World War II, these girls took up arms against the enemy by seducing high-ranking Nazi officers, luring them into the woods and killing them. They provided Jewish children with safe houses and gathered vital intelligence for the resistance. They did what they did "because it had to be done." Above all, they tried to remain human in inhuman circumstances.
Hannie Schaft was executed by the Nazis three weeks before the end of the war and became the icon of female Dutch resistance. Truus and Freddie Oversteegen survived the war, but were forever haunted by the demons of their past.
