Ed talks to Alec Karakatsanis about the justice system, the way it is geared against the poor and disenfranchised, and the amount of public money swallowed up by private entities through the judicial process which could be used for schools or support services – all of which are proven to reduce crime if they are funded decently for the communities they serve. He talks about civil cases where a dual measure of justice seems to be in operation, and talks of an unaccountable Police and Prosecution system, covering everything from unreasonable bail settings, stringent interpretation of law at sentencing to civil forfeiture. His book is a tour-de-force of why the system needs resetting to be fair and just for all.Alec Karakatsanisis a civil rights lawyer, social justice advocate, co-founder of Equal Justice Under Law, and founder and Executive Director of Civil Rights Corps, a non-profit organisation.Website Civil Rights CorpsTwitter Alec Karakatsanis; Civil Rights CorpsBook Usual Cruelty: The Complicity of Lawyers in the Criminal Injustice System

Kathleen Dearinger - Roy Radin hitman and Bill Mentzer Jan 25, 2025
Show notes Kathleen Dearinger - Roy Radin hitman and Bill Mentzer
    Oct 1, 2023
Killer jailed for murder of impresario Roy Radin, who was suspected of being the head of the Son of Sam cult. Mentzer was an associate of Charles Manson and also implicated in the killing of Arliss Perry, a devout Christian slain in North Dakota.Mentzer is suspected as being the person identified by David Berkovitz, the man convicted of the Son of Sam slayings, as Manson II. Los Angeles Police openly acknowledged Mentzer's membership in "some kind of hit squad". The Process Church of the Final Judgement has been associated with both the Manson and Sam slayings, and has been said by some commentators to be the operation running such a hit squad.

Mark Lane - child abuse at migrant detention centers Jan 25, 2025
Show notes Mark Lane - child abuse at migrant detention centers
    Mar 6, 2024
At the time of recording, Mark Lane was the CEO of Minority Humanitarian Foundation. They work with immigrants and the disenfranchised refugee population, giving them shelter, support and some degree of hope. This interview was recorded under the Trump Administration, whose anti-immigrant mantra made life not only difficult but in many cases inhuman.Children would literally be kept in cages, and many children went missing during the naturalisation process. What happened to most of these children, separated from their parents by the ICE people, is both unknown and un-investigated.The fact Trump's policies towards these people directly made profitable business models, of which certain members of his administration had vested interests in, is obviously just a happy coincidence.Facebook Page : Minority Humanitarian Foundation Webpage : Minority Humanitarian Foundation

Jason Vukovich - THE ALASKAN AVENGER Jan 25, 2025
Show notes Jason Vukovich - THE ALASKAN AVENGER
    2 days ago
As a young boy, Jason Vukovich was sexually and physically abused by his stepfather. So, when he grew up, he decided to get revenge — by tracking down known sex offenders across Alaska and attacking them with a hammer. As Vukovich put it: "When I was a little kid in my house, if some tatted-up guy would have kicked the door in and beat up the guy that was molesting me, I would have said, 'Yeah! Woo!... Thank God.' Because nobody cared."Soon, Vukovich became famous as the "Alaskan Avenger" — but he also got himself locked up. After attacking three sex offenders in 2016, he was arrested on the spot near the house of the last man he targeted. Vukovich was later sentenced to 28 years in prison for his actions. And while some campaigned for his release — hailing him as a hero — he remains behind bars.
